Wow, nice track. This version of Riverside is much better than the old GTR2 (P&G) version.

yes, very nice track!.
the lap records shown above (for the 65's at least) are for riverside 71.

The SROU track database is not able to divide the track records in years when small changes in the layout were made.

IMO the 66 layout has the best flow and the track tires are soft!

I have tested the track tires near corner #4 in a race against AI. I thought that hitting the tires would be penalty enough, but I was given a cut track penalty also!

ahh I see, thank you.
yes, the polos are more forgiving. I think this may be a little slower than 71.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it at least as far as the grid this time!

Unfortunately looked to have been a little too to join the practice server tonight, but got a few laps in offline with a random setup.
However, will see whether 65mod crashes again when I join the race server/grid is formed...

Cheers,
Dave.

Good race, I will have to celebrate tonight! I owe many thanks to Gareth for sharing his setup and replay. I would not have been able to win without his help, and also for him to not show up!   Just kidding, you were missed today Gareth. Where were you?

David R. gave me a good challenge. I never could back off.  He was there in my mirror the whole race. I almost threw it away twice. I was lucky to keep the lead.  I look forward to watching the replay. I hope that I gave enough room at the start.

Good race,
Walter

Not good  for me,with my start, worst than Hamilton the last season,i have ruined all my race. Finally ,in the eighteenth lap,a stupid error have permited to my pursuer to gain my position at the last lap.

After getting a bit of target fixation avoiding a car running wide at the start of lap 2, I had a half spin and ended up at the back.  I was fortunate to benefit from others mistakes to gain a couple of places back.

With 2 to go I benefitted again from Francesco's mistake but nearly threw that away through the twisty section and ran wide into T6 allowing him back through. Managed to tag behind and get a tow from the draft along the back straight but didn't think it was going to be enough as Francesco wisely held a defensive line, but went deep in the final turn to let me undercut. The line was close enough to let me get over ahead.

Unlucky Francesco, but thank you for making my last two laps entertaining.  And thanks for the safe, fair driving.

Of course if this had been a 26 lap race I'd have won it   NOT!

Well done Walter. The chassis handicaps seem to have evened out the field.
Was I the only Muppet not to have realised the track was Riverside 66, not 71? I had practiced 71. First task last night was to download the 66 track. In qualifying I managed to work out the differences. I was a touch off the pace & spent most of the race trying to clip a couple of seconds off & a few spins in the process.

I Guess it was me, sorry. Car was half way under control and i tried not to spin myself. I expected the honda to be competitive with the ferrari, but I think i was wrong.
I pushed, but there was no chance. As well, i pushed the car to 109 ° Celsius when I started to shift earlier. Had another spin in the end and los Pos 3 to Mick James.

I better take the ferrari next time.

Thx for Racing all and cya soon.

Nah, the front two were still very quick.
I see some Coopers in my crystal ball. :)

I expected the honda to be competitive with the ferrari, but I think i was wrong.
I pushed, but there was no chance.

Great circuit with a couple of really tricky braking zones.

I took the Honda for the back straight. It was a little tail happy through most of the track but I knew there was little chance of  me passing without risk anywhere else so I wanted the power for the straight and it paid off as I passed Dave C under braking and through the last turn.

Had a great battle for most of the race with Bastian who was also a bit tail happy but I kept it facing the right way the whole race and managed third.

Had a couple of close calls where people thought I'd disappeared and moved over on me but I had a clean race.

Please can mods post the handicaps for Enna ASAP? I want to test where I can pass all of the Coopers  ;D ;D

You can use Cooper everywhere you want  ;D

For Enna, only the 3 leaders of ze championship will be handicaped : You, Walter and me should not use Lotus and BT11 !

so a win for Batian or Gareth on this very speedy track  (you need only 5th or 6th gear here except on the start)

BRM should be OK at Enna (it's like an oval track)j !

Did you miss Riverside only because you can't use the Lotus ? or for another reason ?

Well, it was good to actually make it as far as the grid / take part in an event without gpl crashing to desktop.

<ramble>
I did have a crash in the qually session,  then for some reason - it dawned on me that it may have occurred just after a Brabham had joined.  Then remembered Rouen testing, where everything seemed ok for a few sessions until Billy turned up in his Brabham... hmm...
I then had another thought & removed the TvO Brabham update for the Santa vs. Elves event.   From subsequently examining all the 65 races since - seems I'd been having issues since that but had not noticed the pattern.  Well - too early to say for sure, but hopefully that's my 65 gremlins sorted out...
</ramble>

Had a spin round this new track the other day;  setups seem a bit sparse!  That lack of dog-leg on the straight caught me out the 1st time round!

Tried out 3rd party Mosport & Zandvoort  setups. Zandvoort was 7 seconds better for me. Was happy enough with a 1:55.79 after a couple of laps at that point;  but unfortunately only a handful of laps on gplrank to compare it with.

On the pre-event practice server, was pleased to shave 2 seconds off that.

In the qually session, it was plain to see how far off the pace I still was, despite taking another second off.
From perching on a couple of shoulders, noticed I must have been under-geared in 5th, so I actually made a (rare) adjustment of a couple of clicks [which went the right way too!]. At least I was getting more than the previous ~154MPH on the straight.

Race was fun & it was good to see the 2x Hondas in front battling away for most of it.  Unfortunately both machines/drivers were too quick for me; especially on the straight.  However with a tow,  I was at least getting near 165MPH;  but was otherwise a sitting duck out there.

Towards the end, I think Bastian tried to make it more interesting by having a bit of a crash & losing some time allowing me to close up quite a bit -  but I really could have done with him going further off track :)

Got it wrong through the polos a couple of times - luckily they seem to be made of marshmallow!

Congrats Walter on the win, but both those Ferraris were definitely flying  [as were both Hondas unfortunately].

I could see the position behind me was changing somewhat, so hoped they would be keeping each other too busy :)

No worries on the shorter than expected event.

Cheers all,  hopefully will make it to the event next time too.
Dave.
