My intention for this season was to emulate him by taking the Honda for the 67 Privateers series. This makes it a bit more poignant now. I only wish I had fraction of his talent. Yes he was a famous driver in Germany too, my father was a big fan of him, we saw some great races in Hockenheim in the late 50s where we often met him in the paddock. In the early 60s we drove to the Solitude to watch him driving a F1 car He was famous for inventing the "Surtees style" - "Inventor of a new style that was challenged and that is at the roots of today’s riding technique with the body outstretched towards the inside of the curve" (https://theselvedgeyard.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/john-surtees-vincent.jpg) Title: Re: R.I.P. That actually happened! Never knighted tho Rob. Murray was on the radio this morning, saying its an indictment of the civil system that he never got one.
