Post by: EvilClive on March 10, 2017, 07:44:23 PM +0000
A sad day indeed.

A truly great sportsman man who was, and always will be, a Legend.

Indeed Clive. Was very sad to hear his passing.

A winner on both two wheels and four. Not many can claim that on their list of accolades.

RIP John.

Yes a very very sad day.  As a life long motorcycle racing fan he was one of my heroes.

One of my motorcycle racing heroes too.

My intention for this season was to emulate him by taking the Honda for the 67 Privateers series.  This makes it a bit more poignant now.  I only wish I had fraction of his talent.

Exactly 14 years to the day after Barry Sheene too.  There's one heck of a grid up there.

RIP

Yes he was a famous driver in Germany too, my father was a big fan of him,
we saw some great races in Hockenheim in the late 50s where we often met him in the paddock.

In the early 60s we drove to the Solitude to watch him driving a F1 car

He was famous for inventing the "Surtees style" -
"Inventor of a new style that was challenged and that is at the roots of today’s riding technique with the body outstretched towards the inside of the curve"

Very sad loss, undoubtedly one of the all time greats. RIP

Great photo Axel, Must have took some fitness to chuck a Vincent around a circuit even in race trim.

TTFN
Joh.
