Title: UKGPL Season 31 (2017) Amateurs Trophy (65) - Jehonville - May 23
Post by: Rainier on May 17, 2017, 01:04:23 PM +0100
 SEASON 31 Amateurs Trophy (65) : Round 7  JEHONVILLE
It is the first time the UKGPL Circus is coming to Jehonville track.
Jehonville is a little Belgian town near Luxemburg boundary.
The Circuit de Jehonville Bertrix is a motorbike circuit which was used from 1982-1986.
The track is not easy at all and I recommend to do some practices before racing here !

Check the Season 31 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=587&theme=6) regarding rules and the Amateurs (65) Trophy pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=594&theme=6) in particular.
Please restrict chat to emergency messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Password: see above (#post_event_password)
(2) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=594&theme=6)

You can have a look at GPLrank site...

for mod 65, the best time is 1'14''55
Tristan did 1'14''58  with the Lotus and Roo 1'15"77 with Lotus too. For both, it was done this week !

Good looking area - but what a horrible place to drive round :)

Picked a random setup & after 5 laps was at 1:21.  After another 10 laps 1:19.  For me, there won't be much more improvement, although I may try a couple of other setups in case they suit me better.

What is it with that near-invisible fencing & all those sunken posts?!

How are you doing so far?

Cheers,
Dave.

Point 1 - I have heard of airfield circuits & ovals & road tracks. This one could best be described as a farmyard circuit.
Tristan & Roo have obviously found the magic "tractor" setup or are doing power slides through cow pats.
Having thrashing around in the 1,20's I hooked up a hot lap - 1,19!!!
Rather glad of the flappy paddles - anyone with an H shifter is going to work hard.

I have cleaned the internals of my logitech g27 pedals and shifter. I had left the USB plugged in while the pedals and shifter were disconnected. That may have been a mistake because it is not working now. I may need more time to get it sorted out.

*update - Everything works except the gas pedal and the clutch. When I press the brake, I also get 50% accelerator and 10% clutch. I tried reinstalling the drivers a couple of times. Maybe I need to open the pedals again to check for twisted cables. Alternatively, I have read that windows 10 could be to blame. I may have been experiencing the combined pedals problem in my last race.

Tonight, we will have the great honour to race with the creator of this difficult track : Jean-François Bovy from Belgium.

...so, if you are not happy with this track and find it too difficult, you will be able to directly complain to the author  ;)

Although I've not been to IoM in GPL (or for real!)  - I have seen some replays.
Unfortunately, this track would appear to be all too similar :)

But I'm aware it's my problem/fault - not JFB's !

GPL kept locking up/crashing once  I was connected to the server.
Unfortunately, the ~15mins of qually time did not give much chance to try very much.

Annoying - I'd actually practiced for this one, including an online run last night.

Have fun chaps....

Good to see JFB, if only briefly as the car streaked past the pits!

Cheers,
Dave.

Just went to pieces in the race. Maybe I wasn't braking where I should but could not get the car around the hairpins. Got a wheel trapped in a headge in lap 1. The pit lane was all mud & I span taking off. Found myself being lapped by Gareth about Lap 3. I was simply trying to get out of the way - not sure if my poor car control caused you a spin? After that I just retired the car to stop being a liability. Been like this for several races now - maybe need some time out.

Had a couple of freezes att his track both offline and online but I had installed the 55 mod so thought it might be that.

I restored my previous install to see if that fixed it but it didn't and I got kicked from Qually 2 or 3 times when getting in the car.

Managed to get an OK lap in and was running 4th and 5th in the race until the leaders had issues and ended up having a great battle with Bastian who took the lead after a few laps before he discod.

A few seconds later, while leading again, I was Discod too.

Just read that Clive had a freeze during the Pros race and has also had some offline like me. Obviously most of the Ams were dropped too.

Might be worth considering a track change if we are rescheduling the race.

I can't remember at which lap happened the massive disconnection : 17th or 18th lap ?

at this time, the standings were :

1 Miner
2 Bastian
3 Jean François Bovy
4 Rainier
5 Francesco

Gareth and Billy left the race since several laps.
Dave Curtis could not join the server for the race.

I don't remember what are the rules in such a case... does the final results applied if more than 50% of the distance ?

I know we could re-run a race but the season is already finishing in July and lot of people are on holidays !

I was in front when disconected at the s/f line.

I'm not sure which lap-Miner told me he was diconnected some seconds later probably

As I was approaching the right hander under the trees before Bastin, I was following Bastian Grupp but he disappeared from my view as he turned in and I didn't see him again.

I was able to continue to S/F where I had my disco and my machine had me in the lead with Bastian already disconnected.

Bastian (on his machine) also continued to S/F and his machine had him in the lead but the server had may have already lost him.

I'm not sure what the server shows, obviously, but I'll take the win :)

I guess the event could be a write-off. Server needed three restarts to play nice and froze on lap 16 of 35. Unfortunately no replay or standings were saved.

Was it a different server than normal because I had a nice piece of bodywork as a steering wheel and no dash.

I had off- and online freezes in quali and practice too...

Due to the IP connecting the server had a way higher CPU and GPU workload at ~ 45% (vs the dedicated server with ~5%)

So maybe we need a special light server version.

Shame, such a beauty making such trouble ::)

I've heard that the 65lite cars don't have the 'driving with a clipboard'  issue, although I have not tried it yet.
So if the patch doesn't seem to do the trick, then maybe it's worth a shot.

Cheers,
Dave.
