Title: UKGPL Season 31 (2017) Graduates Cup Works (67) - Watkins Glen - Jun 11
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on June 08, 2017, 11:17:44 PM +0100
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season, the UKGPL season will take place on 10 of the 11 original circuits. This round we cross the Atlantic to the United States. Watkins Glen International (nicknamed "The Glen") is an automobile race track located in Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980), but the site has been home to road racing of nearly every class, including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association and the IndyCar Series.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Andreas, sorry about that. What happened? We both have similar lines through the Esses, and passed through them fine for the first 5 laps. On lap 6, it looked like you maybe skidded a little and shaved off some speed? All of a sudden I closed on you and made contact... I guess that was you out of it straight away, my engine lasted one more lap...

I do not know. Was going trough the Esses and then got the hit from behind. That was my race over...

Was surprised to run a Cooper PB straight out of the box, but it was only good for P4. Sam got a good run into the Loop, thought he would go off but somehow he kept it on track!  :o So, back to P5 and already regretted I had set 3rd taller (1 click but still a big step, unlike 4th and 5th, for engine management). The top 4 gradually drove away, and had some pressure early on from Jethro and Tim, however they never really got close.

Tried to drive as fast I could, but the Cooper simply isn't a match for the Lotus, Eagle and Brab with the driver skills in front. Also had too much fuel onboard. Still drove a few sub5s which was good with the racesetup, it got a bit tight at points pushing the LF too much...a bug or ant bugged me on my lower leg, almost went off when I terminated the creature...

Late race Tris made an error and inherited P2 also when Pelle and Greg retired early...normally I never would have gotten a podium, and everytime my car choice seems off. Too fast for the guys behind, too slow for the guys in front, when I want to have close racing. For Mexico I take the Brab, but wished there was a car in between Cooper and Brab, the gap is too big  :-\

Grats Sam, solid win in the end, well done and tough break Tris. Good job finishers and commiserations to the DNF's ;)

I didn't get to practice at all for this race. With a car I don't have much time in or love for & a track that is not on list of favourites.... I was happy to finish but disappointed to get lapped twice.

Never really had any laps with others so it was quite a lonely race, but I managed to get within a couple of tenths of my pb at the end so some practice would have helped for sure but I reckon the result would have been the same.

Grats podium/finishers, some great pace out there.
Thanks admins :)

See you at Mexico.

That was a nice surprise!  :)

Having treated myself to a Lotus this round, I was hoping to battle for a podium. Didn't quite break into the 1.04 barrier in quali but managed to line up 5th. First lap in and I lunged past Rob into the Loop, the DFV and tow helping me past the asthmatic Maserati-powered Cooper. Going in I thought I braked too late and was going to have an early bath, but just about managed to keep all four wheels on the black stuff  :sweatdrop:.

That left me 4th chasing down Greg, but a few laps in I noticed Pelle pull of the circuit and Greg clipped the barriers at the Esses  :(. Promoted to 2nd, I spent the next half of the race chasing down Tris in the Brabham. With the car advantage I slowly managed to haul him in. But passing Tris was proving very tricky as his exits out of the corners were superb. Eventually, he made a slight error out of the last corner and I powered past into the lead.

While I built a narrow cushion, about 5 laps from the end I outbraked myself into the last corner and Tris regained the lead. Tris then returned the favour in the Esses next lap, his shifter giving him grief and I took the lead once again. With Rob now in second, I lapped steadily to the end, mindful of not making any more errors!

Though I did benefit massively from taking the Lotus, given the talent in this series, it's always nice to bag a win. Congrats to Rob for taking 2nd in the Cooper and to Tris for recovering to 3rd.

couldn't agree more Sam! getting on the podium is quite an achievement with this kind of company, making it well deserved :)

It was a nice race....I try to resist to Sam as long as possible but no way, the Lotus finaly over take me and go away......few laps to go when I see Sam in the grass in the last turn !!!^^ !....whahooo !....thx mate ;) !...BUT.... I will do a stupid mistake whith the shifter!!ARRRRGGGLLL §!....I want to pass the 4th gear in the turn2 and I find the neutral ! the punishment is : absolutly no gripp and bye bye the track...hello the grass !....the time to go out of the grass and Sam and Rob pass....2 or 3 laps to go and I can just save the podium.....happy finaly whith this 3rd place who ( if I count well ) give me the champ, even if I score a zero at the next and final round......;) :-*
Rendez-vous under the sun of Mexico.....
thx org and wd Sam and Rob
