Title: New Drivers
Post by: vosblod on September 12, 2009, 03:04:07 AM +0100
Experienced drivers may wish to skip straight to the Online Racing section…

1) Getting Started

(a) Firstly get yourself the game disc, have a quick search on ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/93941512) OR try here (https://www.myabandonware.com/game/grand-prix-legends-9zz).
(b) Download the installer from here (https://gplps.wordpress.com/gplps-gpl-installer/)
(c) Insert the game disc and run the installer. This will install GPL with various updates and add-ons. If you have problems there is a comprehensive installation guide here (http://www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide). Please note, GPL is an old game and consequently it is not recognised as a 3D game by modern operating systems. Consequently the graphics options have to be set manually. The installation guide (http://www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide) explains how to do this. Nvidia graphics card users may find the Nvidia Profiler (https://www.ukgpl.com/files/NVIDIA_Profiler.pdf) useful. The GPL Hints and Tips (https://www.ukgpl.com/files/GPL%20Hints%20and%20Tips.pdf) document contains a section describing how to set the Field of View (FOV).
(d) If you cannot source a game disc, the installation guide (http://www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide) describes how to use the GPL 2004 Demo or the GPL 2020 demo to get started with GPL.
(e) In order to run any of the mods available for GPL, you will need to install GEM (http://gem.autosimsport.net/). A patch to correct the BAPOM covers download facility is here (http://gplaltern.gplracer.eu/showthread.php?tid=621).
(f) Now might be a good time to install the additional mods that we frequently run here at UKGPL. Note: It is good practice to install the necessary tracks for the mod before trying to install the mod itself.
        (i) 1955 Grand Prix (http://55f1.gplworld.de/)
        (ii) 1965 Formula 1 (http://65f1.gplworld.de/)
        (iii) 1966 Formula 1 (http://66f1.gplworld.de/)
        (iv) 1966 Can Am (http://canam66.gplworld.de/)
        (v) 1967 Formula 2 (http://f2legends.gplworld.de/)
        (vi) 1967 Sports Cars (http://sportscars67.gplworld.de/)
        (vii) 1968 Formula 1 (http://68f1.gplworld.de/)
        (viii) 1969 Formula 1 (extra) (http://69f1.gplworld.de/)
        (ix) 1971 Can Am (http://canam71.gplworld.de/)
(g) There are several options that can be enabled through the GEM interface. Two are mandated for on-line racing:
        (i) 60fps (https://gpladdons.the-fastlane.co.uk/addons_list.php?q=(ID~equals~12))
(ii) Track Gap Freeze Fix (https://srmz.the-fastlane.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1300&sid=ed563743d96987a50e22dd5f09a7bc33)
These are not mandated but they are popular:
        (i) Force Feedback (https://gpladdons.the-fastlane.co.uk/addons_list.php?q=(ID~equals~814))
        (ii) Head Movement (http://gplmotorworks.gplworld.de)
        (iii) No Letterbox (http://gplmotorworks.gplworld.de)
The options are made available in GEM by copying the relevant .XML file into the C:\GPLSecrets\GEM+\Options folder. For convenience the xml files associated with the above options are available in this download (https://www.ukgpl.com/files/Options.zip).

That’s all you need to get started. If you run into problems let us know so we can help, it’s also worth checking the main GPL help forum at GPL Alternative Forum (http://gplaltern.gplracer.eu/index.php).

The disc comes with 11 original tracks – beyond that there are hundreds more downloadable at the GPL Track Database (https://gpladdons.the-fastlane.co.uk/tracks_list.php).

There are also a myriad of things you can add such as track updates, a replay analyser and set-up assistant but one step at a time…

2) Getting out on track

Now you are all loaded and raring to go but before you hit the track consider the following;
i) Controller – it is really worth considering buying a wheel and pedals. There are lots of products available ranging in price – basically the more expensive the better but there are some good cheap wheels out there if you just want to get a feel for the driving. You can use the keyboard but you are likely to struggle…
ii) Driving View – we recommend using the cockpit view. You can use the overhead view but in the long run you could struggle, and it won’t be so easy to check your opponents behind you.
iii) Driver Aids – by all means use these to start with. Once you start getting up to speed, however, we strongly recommend you switch all driver aids OFF. In the long term it will hold you back against your online opponents.
iv) Which Mod? – you will want to go straight out in the original 67 beasts. Go for it but we do recommend, once tried, you start to learn your craft in the more forgiving 65's or 67 F2's and progress onto the 67's, 66's and 69's.
v) Which chassis? Try them all – you might find one that particularly suits you.

OK now you’ve considered the above it’s time to hit the track… But which track? Well a good starter would be Silverstone or Monza but you may have ambitions to conquer the Nurburgring immediately.
Now prepare to crash, for crash you will, and lots. If you race the AI you will wonder where they have all gone once the flag drops.
Fear not we have all been there. Be prepared for a lot of practice, then some more practice and finally a lot more practice. We can assure you what you get out of GPL will be worth it.
As to how long it will take for you to be ready to take on the drivers at UKGPL well that’s like asking how long is a piece of string – it depends on the time you can put in, a few weeks of dedicated practice might be feasible.
As a rule of thumb you should be able to get round a track MOST times with no driver aids. At this stage don’t worry too much about your track times.
A word of warning, ditch the default setups, there are lots of setups available on the internet for download (see links below).

Now it’s time to get yourself online…

3) Getting online

If you are brand new to GPL start by joining the practice servers/races in IGOR. Join our chatroom (#ukgpl) where you will quite often find other UKGPL drivers. Hop on to any of our servers (don’t worry you won’t end up in a league race, they are password protected). You should enter iGOR via GEM which applies the necessary patches before launching iGOR.
You will find us a helpful bunch so this is a great way to practice your newfound skills and get advice.
Once you can get round safely it is time to join us in our league races. At the sake of repetition don’t worry too much about your lap times at this stage. UKGPL welcomes new drivers and you will never be penalised for a lack of driving expertise.

On that fine note, before you do start, check our Rules and Regulations (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro) with an emphasis on Sporting Regulations and Etiquette. Don’t worry you don’t need to learn it all verbatim, it is common sense stuff really.

4) Online Racing

The first thing you will want to do is decide which divisions you will participate in. We cater for both new and more experienced drivers. You can find the current divisions together with details for current season on the UKGPL homepage (https://www.ukgpl.com/).
Just vote on the appropriate registration thread in Announcements (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0) and you will be entered into that division and have access to the race passwords.

5) Teams

Once you are settled in you may wish to join one of the various existing teams (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&team=*) or even start your own. Just contact one of the team members or you can self-service the set-up of your own team.

6) Forum Navigation

UKGPL operate through the SROU forum. There are three main sections; Announcements (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0) (division registration and the like) / Races (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=53.0) / GPL (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=52.0) (for anything else).
Entering via ukgpl.com (https://www.ukgpl.com/) will give you direct access to the latest race threads and additional utilities such as replay downloads.

7) Links / Resources

A google search will throw up lots of resources. A few worth looking at are;
GPL Alternative Forum (http://gplaltern.gplracer.eu/index.php) – general GPL forum (replacement for the now defunct SRMZ)
GPL World (http://www.gplworld.de/en) – GPL guides and hints
GPL Track Database (https://gpladdons.the-fastlane.co.uk/tracks_list.php) - track and set-up downloads
GPL Rank (http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/php-pub/gplrank.php) - keeps track of your laptimes
GPL Wiki (http://wiki.grandprixlegends.info/index.php?title=Main_Page) - lots of useful information
GPL Links (http://www.gpllinks.org/) - lots of resources
GPL Hints and Tips (https://www.ukgpl.com/files/GPL%20Hints%20and%20Tips.pdf) - a guide to configuring GPL for on-line racing

So happy racing and we hope you enjoy being part of UKGPL. Feedback is always welcome, just PM one of the Moderators.
If you need help, advice or anything else to get started just post here and we’ll do our best to assist you.

All the links in the "d" are broken dor me - can't reach any of it, mostly 404 error. :(

I think that is largely due to RSC going down the tubes TT.

You can find most of it here
http://zefix.tv/gpl_ultimate_links

but I can't find a link to the 65mod.

Anyone have a clue where that may be hosted now?

If it gets too many hits I will upload it to drop.io or somewhere similar and use their bandwidth.

Well done that man.

What about the 65 slipstream patch?

Is that in there already or does it still need adding?

Ordered the game. I wonder how much time it will wonder around Europe - remember 10 years ago I bought a book and got it after 9 months... ::)
Will have more questions then. :)
Am doing some laps in 2004 demo. Came 6th so far in the 12 lap race in Lotus. Can you select any other car at all?

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: EvilClive on February 27, 2010, 10:25:46 PM +0000
I dont think the 67 demo lets you have any of the other cars.

The Lotus is considered the fastest car in the 67's but it is difficult to drive at 100% and is also one of the most fragile. You really have to watch the engine revs and avoid that red pointy thing on the rev counter, otherwise that bootiful Cosworth engine gets upset  ::)

When you eventually get the game disc, and are able to try the other chassis you willl find that although some of the other cars are not as nimble as the Lotus, they are easier to drive and you can expolit more of their potential than you can that of the Lotus and the result is faster more consistant lap times...at least that is the theory  ;D
This will be the time that you enter the dark world of setups and try to find one that suits you, out of the thousands that are out there, or you might try developing your own.

That is V2.01 which should include it. (I think).

in app.ini i have
[ Engine ]
sampleRPM = 27300.000000
also tried 5200 and original 7200, but nothing.

maybe its because of some patch, i remmember in authum i installed some game patch, withch is not in my backupfolder... but cant remmember.
anyway i can join on ukgpl 67 server so far.
how to fix sound?

Post by: Raoni Frizzo on April 12, 2011, 12:28:07 AM +0100
Well, I don't know if I'm posting on the right topic...

I'm new here. My name is Raoni Frizzo, brazilian, and I saw on SRMZ the announcement of the new oncoming season. I found it very interesting and, if possible, would like to join some of the trophies (maybe the Porsche Super Cup, the Historic Trophy and the Pro Trophy, I'm not able to race on sundays because of the GPL Brasil races).

Maybe someone here knows me from other online races or from SRMZ. I'm a keyboard driver, but I have some experience driving in other leagues, like GPL Brasil, Grand Prix Argentina and YAOL since 2007, and the World Cup in 2008.

I have to say that I'm really impressed seing a GPL league active since 1999, reuning so much drivers, even with a lot of new simulators being released. This makes GPL an immortal one  Congratulations for keeping GPL alive!

Cheers ;)

And sorry for my bad english... :P

Welcome Simon!! You've arrived at the perfect time. We're in between seasons and just about to start some fun/test races over the break. Most of what you need to know is on the website, but of course, any questions you have that you cannot find answers for....just shout. The coming races will give you a chance to settle in a bit before Season 22 kicks off next month. And the practice server is running full time, UKGPL.3, so feel free to jump on any time.....there's no password.

Welcome to UKGPL Simon, as Geoff says there will be quite a few fun races (unmoderated with multiple resets) which you are welcome to join. Keep an eye out for the race threads, top right under forthcoming or here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=53.0).
The new season is due to start on 30 October and registration threads will be posted later.

Hi Chaps,

Another new driver from the UK.   I'm fairly new to the online aspect of GPL - although it really does make a huge difference.  Certainly a lot more enjoyable.   So far, I have mainly been driving over at EOLC,  pootling round at the back of the slowest grids.

I'll admit that I don't really have much of a clue as to what I'm doing when on track, but it IS certainly fun!  I'm trying hard to avoid being a bloody liability out there.

So, I'll go over to the 67 privateer section & note my interest over there.  Hopefully see you out on track;  you seem like a good bunch!

Cheers,
Dave.

Welcome to UKGPL Dave. We are a good bunch.....I'm Australian and they tolerate me here!!.... :o Don't worry too much about your lack of experience, the practice server is up for just that purpose. You'll find the Privateers competitive but fun, and there are drivers of ALL abilities in that class.........so enjoy.
Geoff.

It's most likely a false virus detection. I suggest adding GPL's folder to your anti-virus exceptions so it ignores it.

Hey all...

Another new boy!!

I'm Andy, raced GPL years back (badly) with the Legends League and remember some good times!! New pc, more importantly a new wheel and pedals.

Would like to join and run in some fun races to start and then crack on from there...

Would also appreciate some help and advice getting GPL to the League requirements and working out ffb settings for my wheel...

Cheers all

.... working out ffb settings for my wheel...

Welcome Andy.  FFB settings are a very personal thing, everyone has their own preferences and you probably won't get two people with exactly the same settings.  Also regardless of personal preferences each wheel is completely different.  I can only give you advice on the wheel I use, the Logitech G25.  Apart from the very expensive specialist products, the G25 (and it's sister product the G27) is the best wheel on the market IMO.

Thanks Both!!

Also was wondering what i need to do to get my GPL to be compatible with UKGPL servers??

I have the 04 Demo AND the original disk... I see some say use the demo and copy in tracks etc

Some say use the installer and the original disk.. What would you recommend??

Also what add ons like the 60fps patch do you require??

Cheers

Use the all-in-one wonder installer thingy and the original disk :)

We aren't yet using the 60fps for league races but are toying with it in fun races.. as for which extra mods you want to play, well thats entirely up to you - as a new driver probably best to start with the 1965 mod and come play with me in the "novices" division :)

Andy,

You can get all the stuff you need here (http://gpltd.bcsims.com/?ir=Mods)

The installer is here (http://gem.ebi-service.de/gplinstall_beta_1.04.exe)

Install at least the 1967 and 1965 mods. The F2 mod is here (http://www.f2legends.net) and is not yet listed on the track database site.

The installer guide is a bit out of date if you use the 1.04 beta installer (and you should) but it is useful. You can find that one here (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=5603)

Let me know if you have any issues.

Cheers,

P.

Title: Re: New Drivers

Andy

I suggest you use the installer as Badblood suggests.  It will install everything you need to patch your original disk up to the standard you need for UKGPL.  In fact it is the only way I could install GPL under Vista (Vista simply refused to install GPL from the original disk).

Once you have installed the basics, the 65, 66, 67 update, 69, 69x, GT and F2 mods can all be loaded as required.

Cheers

Phil

I raced a good few years back with the Legends League, usually trundling around the very back of the grid... Hoping I have dug up some more motivation and patience since I last raced!!

Catch up soon

welcome at UKGPL!

We race the series listed on the UKGPL.COM page

The 65s are divided in 3 classes of skill: professionals, intermediates and novices (S23Pro, S23Int, S23Nov)

The 66s race in the Historics series

You find the info of all series if you click on the Series on the top of this page e.g. S23His for the 66s.

To join a series you have to go to the UKGPL Announcements, select the series registration thread and vote in the poll!

If there are any questions left, PM me or any other moderator ;)

Sorry Boggy - we use the chatroom #ukgpl and we normally use iGOR (although the WinVROC chat will work just as well). You can join races from iGOR just by double clicking on the race whereas if you use WinVROC you have to join via IP address (which is a pain). See you in there tomorrow.

There will be a practice server up from tonight.

Hi my name is Andy Miller.

I have raced GPL from when it first came out. Was in a few online leagues in the past. A good friend who has joined this great place told me about you guys. Glad to see this 'affair' is still very much alive and well. Looking to join in at Monaco in the 65's but will probably ease in with the Novices and see how i go. Looking at my GPL Rank, I last raced in 2006. But i've never gone the whole way with the 65's. Hoping to have a good race and make new friends.

All the best

Andy

Nice to see you Andy.

You will need to register to get the password for the race. The registration thread for the Novices series is here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=post;topic=6787.45;num_replies=46). Simply vote and I will register you.

I keep an eye on the registration threads weekly but feel free to drop me a PM if there are any questions.

We meet up about 8:50 before the race in iGOR in the #ukgpl chatroom which does not have a password. There will also be a practice server up by the weekend (UKGPL3).

If so, Novices is difficult enough at the moment!   :)

Anyway, welcome aboard fella - they seem like a good bunch round these parts.

Hello,
I‘m Uli from Koblenz/Germany, not far from the Nürburgring Circuit where I was infected with the virus Formula 1 in the early 60th.
I drive GPL since 1998 and started my first League-Races 1999 in a LAN League named CAR in the area of Frankfurt until 2004, then changed to online Races in the Leagues of EOLC and GPL-RACER where I‘m still racing our days.
This year I want to race some testraces in your league – only sporadic missions in a ‘65 or ‘67-F2 GPL racecar – just for fun, want to feel the taste of british racing. But first I have to check out your enormous website structure, for example to find an overview of all GPL Races schedule. I hope we will meet us soon on track an have exciting fun – looking forward to it!
All the best

Hi Uli,
Welcome to UKGPL. When you are ready to start racing you will need to vote for the series - see the threads below. When you have posted please also leave a message so we can process your registration.
The 65 & 67F2 have two separate divisions, depending on level of ability.
If you have any questions you can post here or send a Private Message to one of the moderating team. We already have a few German drivers.

Hallo Uli,

welcome to the roots of motor racing, finally you found the way.  :)
You can find an overview on all Races when you click at the first page on the left side at Season 24, which is the "Aktuelle".  ;)

For sure you will have fun and find some fast drivers, like yourself, here. With the 65er it´s sure the Professionals where you looking for. The F2 here I don´t know, cause I don´t drive them any more. Da wird dir Axel "Cookie" Koch mehr zu sagen können.

A Gpl Mod team is now working hard, to faithfully reproduce that famous first race of 1894.  But the problem is, the man holding the red flag who walks ahead of the cars, to warn they are coming, keeps on getting run over by the racers!   :hammer:

the man holding the red flag who walks ahead of the cars   :hammer:

Duration of the race was less than 7 hours for the winners and you have to subtract 1h30 for lunch, so around 5 hours  for 135 km ...
With an average of 27km per hour, this man with the red flag should be the grand father of Usain Bolt !

Hi, I started driving GPL about 2 years ago. It was the first sim that I drove after buying a G27 Logitech wheel. I have not raced online with GPL, but I have raced online in the PnGv3 leagues for the past 8 months. I registered in the Novice league and Monaco will be my first race (if all goes well).

I am from Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. The weather is hot and humid year round. I am lucky to live near the water, and we have a cool sea breeze. I raced go karts from age 5 to 15 years. Now a days, I try to race online in the afternoon (evening in the UK).

On a side note, my dad attended the 1970 Mexican Grand Prix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_Mexican_Grand_Prix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_Mexican_Grand_Prix)). He said that the crowds knocked the fence down to watch the race a little closer.
He said that Jochen Rindt had died at Monza during practice, but still won the Championship that year. I am encouraging him to drive GPL, and he has tried doing practice laps a few times now.

Thanks,
Walter

Hi all

I'm making my GPL comeback after a hiatus of some 10 years!
I'm picking up a wheel/pedals combo tomorrow and then will search the loft for my game disk (I hope I still have it).
Things seem to have changed a lot since my day (electricity, horseless carriages, etc) so I'd be grateful for any active links to installers for recommended add-ons. I see lots of links posted but they old and broken (a bit like me really).
Then I'll get some practice and register for some racing.
Can't wait - it been soooooo long.

Thanks

Here you will find most of the files and mods we use: http://srmz.net/index.php?showforum=86

Use this installer 1.07 -> http://gplps.wordpress.com/gplps-gpl-installer/

The actual Setup Manager is here -> http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=8378

Now all I have to do is recover at least some of my past (meager) ability.

It will be fun.

Hi Robert, welcome (back?) to UKGPL.

Yes, you are right that the current season is drawing to a close, but that might work in your favour. There will be a break in championship races over the Christmas and New Year and we usually have a load of fun races in that period.
You will be more than welcome to join in any or all of these fun races, just keep an eye on this forum for news of these. You will of course need to have access to IGOR the race server listing, where you will often find a UKGPL practice server which might be a good place to "test" your self against the current drivers without any qualms about races etc.

If you have any questions or probs post on the forum and someone is sure to offer you help and advice.

Hi,

thanks for the welcome and your fast reply. I have never ran in UKGPL, but ran in DSZ/simracing.nl way back in 2002-2003 (started GPL in 2001), and did a few !00% races with MoG in division 2. Focussed more on N2003 leagueracing, but occasionally ran a few GPL races before I quit simracing in 2007. Last winter I started to hotlap a bit, but personal and hardware probs ended that soon.

Started again with GPL few weeks ago, and also tried a few mods, in which F2 seems to be a great formula for close racing. Prolly would like to join 67 works trophy and F2 trophy next season. Surely I will join a few funraces, the IRC channel is #ukgpl right? Also if and when there are spots open for the last two F2 races, I'd be glad to join those. Even with the BT14 not to stir too much dirt in the championship :P

Never got the most out of GPL, and looking forward to improve myself, but mostly to some old school clean racing.

Hi Robert

Welcome to UKGPL.  I ran the 67 Works Division this season and I'll probably be running it again in Season 26 (not planning any changes to the format so we will be using tokens again).  Please have a look at the championship table (here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=401&theme=6)).  If you click on the flags at the top of each column, a link will take you to each race report.  You will be able to look at the lap and race times to judge how competitive you will be.  If you haven't run GPL since 2007 you will be impressed with the changes, our league was still 100% 67 back then.  The 66 mod, 69 extra, 67 F2 and the improved 65 mod (the early version was out in 2007) are all fantastic not to mention the Sports Cars and Can Ams.

Regards

Phil

Robert,
You are welcome to sign up for the Formula 2 series - we have two races left at Monza & Zandvoort which you will be familiar with.
If you register / vote for F2 & post that you have joined we will get you added. If you are at "Works" standard then please register for the Light Division.
If you take the BT14 you are either incredibly quick or very brave!

thanks for the welcome. Phil, thanks, did read myself a bit in, and think I'll fit in fine in the Works Trophy. Will wait for Season 26 :) I'm very impressed how much GPL is still alive, and prolly will be forever 8) Apart from the mods and updates that I tried/will try, just want to get more out of the original 67 cars and generally improve my driving...

Billy, great, will register for F2 lights then for Monza and Zandy. I'm neither very brave or incredibly quick. Not so bad will do  It was my line of thought to run with the BT14 because of not spoiling the championship battle. Just want to run safe and clean and not interfere with title contenders, and the BT14 will pretty much guarantee that  :D And if and when there are others who (have to) run BT14, it would be good fun! I'll think about it...just want to be prepared well and make a good impression on the track...

BTW could someone give me the #ukgpl chatroom pw, please?

The chatroom password used to be "savage", but I think that we have dropped any password requirement and you can just jump straight in.

Just in case you are having difficulties getting into chat.....

Some people have had problems getting logged on to the IGOR chatroom ( and that includes a few long time UKGPL members) there appears to be some conflict with modern AV or other software that prevents you joining via IGOR.  But we can still access the same chatroom through VROC without problems.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Rob, I've been playing offline on and off since about 2001, I used to do the odd race in VROC in the RSC heydays. I would like to join a 67 league but due to work and part-time study commitments, I cannot commit to a full season, is it possible to dip in and out of league races? If I'm honest, I only know a handful of the original tracks only.

Do drivers get to choose cars on a race by race basis?

How exactly does one join a league race anyway? I've got iGOR up now, is it as simple as seeing an appropraite UKGLP server race and joining in?

Questions, questions...

You can join every server in IGOR with a green button! If a server is not for all, it is locked ;)

Diego,
New drivers are always welcome. UKGPL race on Sunday, Tuesday & Fridays - just about everything on offer - 65's 66's, original 67, Formuala 2, Sports cars & 69X.
Some division have two grids which is usually divided by ability. For example for 1967 we have a Works grid for the faster drivers & a Privateers grid. If you look at the recent races you can see the lap times. If you have specific questions then post here or send me a Private Message.

Hi Diego and welcome,

There are quite a few Brazilian drivers with us. We meet in the #UKGPL chatroom on iGOR (or VROC) at around 20:50 UK time on race nights. You should register for whatever series you are interested in and you can find those registration threads here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0).

67s are in the Privateers (or Works if you are very quick); 67 Formula 2 in the F2 series; 66's in the Historic Trophy; 65's in the Amateurs or Professionals Trophy and a mix in the Friday Trophy (F2; 69X; GT and Can-Am)

Hi Diego

I've processed your registration but because we aready have 19 drivers registered I've allocated you a reserve place.  Don't worry you should still get a regular drive; not all drivers attend every race.

With a few months off-line experience you should be the right level for the Privateers but if you turn out to be very quick we may need to move you to the Works.  Good luck tonight, take it easy and give yourself some time to settle into how we do things here at UKGPL.  There will be some non-finishers tonight so drive steadily and you will get a good result.  Don't forget, you need to complete 3 laps to score points tonight.

Regards

It's amazing how quick one forgets things! Guys, I'm trying to reinstall everything but can't seem to get the #UKGPL chatroom to show up in IGOR.

I see the race servers and get the #gpl but having added the #UKGPL to the channels it doesn't appear.  Any clues?

Have you added the channel key?  I've PM'ed it to you.

LOL Angel Moose ( ::) Where did you get that from!), cheers!

The question seemed appropriate to the new driver section, it's been more than a couple of weeks so with my memory span it's like starting over!  ;)

I'm not sure when or where I'll be driving yet, but may make a 'guest' appearance before the end of the season.

Hello!

I happened to try Grand Prix Legends and i liked it alot, i happened to get an old disc of this game when my grandpa came to visit us last year, this is my second day playing GPL (May 5, 2014, at last here in Guatemala :) ), and i had been driving the Lotus @ Kyalami, while having lots of fun in it (I enjoy racing, i didn't knew racing existed until i looked it up when i was bored one day, so i'm a newbie.), well, i'm not sure if i should send a replay tough, but i say that i have lots of fun racing with the AI, even so, i know that these type of sports require lots of learning, maybe i should get someone to evaluate my driving and help me to work on it little by little, don't mind learning after all :), i also got my Logitech G27 to get me started when i decided to give it a shot, and well... that's all i have to say :D.

Edit: Figured out that i can't upload files here... oh well :) .

Hi Red

Welcome to UKGPL.  I suggest you have a read through the first post in this thread; it contains some good information for new drivers.  You might find this web page (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/starter) helpful too.

If you haven't raced on-line yet I recommend you setup IGOR and join in on the practice servers.  The AI is OK but you can't beat racing against real people :-).

Regards

Phil

Hi Josh (or would you prefer another name?). We are in a mid-season break right now but we will probably start up again on 15th July. There is a new members page here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/starter) that may be helpful. When the season does start there will be registration threads in this forum.

We run two 65 grids on every second Tuesday - for the fast boys there is the 'Pros' series and for the slightly more challenged (i.e. me) there is the Amateurs series. The Pros are a bit less gentlemanly than the Amateurs but the contest is just as keen. If you are not sure, go for the Amateurs and I can always move you up. As for the F2s. Sunday night and almost certainly a single grid with a wide range of abilities.

Drop me a PM if you need anything else. Take a look out for Cookie's fun races in the meantime.

Hallo Bastian, welcome

You will find all information about the series we race in "UKGPL Announcements" subforum ;)

For the 67s, 65s and 67F2s we have 2 divisions for the faster and less fast drivers (e.g. 65s: Professionals -Amateurs)

If you want to join a series you have to vote in the poll of the series registration thread ;)

Hi there !

Having jumped back into the sweet GPL groove this year (via the F1Legends league) after a 5-five year break I'm hoping to find the time to at last run in the legendary UKGPL :) . I've been into GPL since it came out and into simracing for many years before that (the old Papyrus Indy 500 sim :punk: ). I started GPL online late in 2005 and was quite active on the scene for five years, competing in all the French-speaking leagues and some foreign ones as well like Runar Bjornstad's awesome 2007 WC 40th Anniversary series. With Runar we set up the 2008 World Cup as a continuation to the WC 40th, and late in the year I also created Historic Simracing Organisation (http://historicsimracing.org/en/index) with three other fellow GPLers (Martin Audran, Antoine de Mautor, Guillaume Siebert). We did have some GPL racing at HSO early on, and actually two of the current top three in the gplrank participated in those races ;D . We're 100% rFactor now since a few years, but we're still hoping to stage some GPL events in the future.

Nice to see some familiar names racing here lately, like my man Iestyn - what's up dude - or that other froggy David Rainier  ;D .

I have yet to thoroughly read all the rules and schedules but will do so ASAP and hope to see you all trackside soon !

Hehe Iestyn those were the days indeed ! Did you get the 2009 HSO GPL Yearbook (http://ftp://91.121.135.76/Divers/Yearbooks/2009/HSO%202009%20Yearbook%201967%20F1.pdf) back then (you're probably better off going the "right click & save as" way as it's a big .pdf file ;) ) ?

Hi Mike,
Been a while.

I bought a new PC a bout two years back & I'm fairly sure it runs Windows 7. Was just a case of copying the files across & a reinstall.

Not a great deal has changed here, other than running 60 frames per second.

Look forward to seeing you back on track.

Hi Mike

Nice to see you   :thumbup1:

There is no problem running GPL on W7 64/32.
Just copy your old GPL installed folder to the HDD or SSD.

Only GEM+ 2.5.32 has to be installed and linked to the GPL folder ;)

There is no problem running GPL on W7 64/32.
Just copy your old GPL installed folder to the HDD or SSD.

...or Win 8, 8.1 & 10
If I were you, start on a fresh install of the GPL, the latest: GPL Install 1.07 beta
...afterwards, copy your old profile into your GPL install.
Download the new Spa 67, if it works...everything Works  ;)

Hi Mike,
Been a while.

it's certainly been that. A lot of changes round here since my last visit.

Not a great deal has changed here, other than running 60 frames per second.

Does everybody run that in all mods?

Look forward to seeing you back on track.

Yep, just look in your mirrors, I'll be there. Hehe.

Hi Mike

Nice to see you   :thumbup1:

Thanks, you too. I actually missed the place.

There is no problem running GPL on W7 64/32.
Just copy your old GPL installed folder to the HDD or SSD.

SSD? I though nothing had changed round here. Haha!

Only GEM+ 2.5.32 has to be installed and linked to the GPL folder ;)

OK, I'll have to refresh my memory on iGOR and all that wonderful stuff as well as keeping it pointed in the right direction.

Welcome back (at the beginning of this year I had my comeback & I have not been able to get rid of the GPL again)  ;D

I might find myself in the same position.

If I were you, start on a fresh install of the GPL, the latest: GPL Install 1.07 beta
...afterwards, copy your old profile into your GPL install.

OK Thanks.

Not sure I ever ran 60fps. have to look how that all works too.

Better install my new wheel and pedals too then..........

Post by: Cookie on October 20, 2015, 07:31:18 PM +0100
Yes Mike UKGPL runs all mods with 60 fps now ;D

The patches are stored at UKGPL_3 (ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/Replays/Archive/Season27/60fps/)
those .xml files are to be put in the GEM/options folder so you will see them in GEM+

We use the
- 60fpsV2newmod for 67, 66, 65 and CanAm71 mods
- 60fpsV1 for Sport Cars and 69Xtra mods

Just ask if any questions arise

Maybe I never got written about my own comeback...a big mistake, that I left GPL  ::)

The answer to why I write is because, I hope if anyone is in doubt about a comeback: You're never too old to GPL  ;D

*This is only bla bla bla/*
In late 2007, I started on GTL (it is easy to switch to GTL...if you can GPL :D ...it seemed like people thought I used cheating, how could a new in GTL be so quick?) Unfortunately slipped GPL in the background & completely forgotten.

I tried a comeback a few years ago (also here at UKGPL) but was switched from Microsoft SideWinder FF (MS software only Works up to Win XP) to a G25. It was never good (gave up too quickly) & GPL was forgotten again.
I began to feel GTL was boring (perhaps wrong to say boring) but, the big kick I missed - of course - from GPL.
*bla bla bla End/*

This time I was stubborn, now I want GPL to work regardless of the time (now G27)...but it's hard to find the right guidance & it was a bigger task than expected.
One thing I had to give up to get to work, GPLShift...& here I was close to dropping my comeback, also because I was down to 20fps.  :-[ ...until one comes with a tip in the Vroc chat: 'Try OpenGLv2'...D3D was always the best, but the problem was solved in iGor with OpenGL...& I have run GPL from the tip  :D

If it can help & anyone is interested, I wrote my way back to GPL here (http://www.gpl1967.dk/GPLDK/showthread.php?3-GPL-Install-2015&p=3&viewfull=1#post3)
...& help with G25/G27 here (http://www.gpl1967.dk/GPLDK/showthread.php?4-Logitech-G25-G27&p=4&viewfull=1#post4)

You need to have a look at the championship page for Season 29 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=508&theme=6).  Have a read through the various divisions and on each one you will find a link to a registration thread.  You need to vote in the registration thread to register for the division.

Hi guys. Just signed up to the forum specifically for UKGPL and wanted to introduce myself.

I played GPL loads back in the day. Loved it  :). I remember playing online through VROC and having loads of fun. I even set up my own online league the once but we never got any further than the first race.

I didn't even realise there was a community still going for GPL until I came accross this forum. If only I'd known about it earlier. I haven't had a proper desktop computer for a while (been using a crappy old laptop)  but I'm getting a new gaming rig delivered in the next few days and plan to get a wheel and some pedals to go with it.

Time to get some practice in  :)
See you on the road.

Feel free to register for some divisions in this subforum (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0). Maybe best to sign up for 67 Privateers if you're only want to do the original 1967 mod, or sign up for one of the other mods' divisions. Also it's handy to sign up at http://srmz.net/

Best of luck and have fun! :)

Hi Blake,
Yes, GPL is still alive, lurking in the dark corner of the internet.

As Robert has suggested, you are welcome to sign up for the various series that we are running once you have your system working. We run two separate grids for both the 65 mod (Pro & Ams) & original 67 (Works & Privateers). You can check out the respective lap times by looking at previous Season 30 races to see where you would fit in.

Any problems, please post here - someone can usually help with most things.

Cheers for the welcome guys. I have a few noob questions I hope you can clear up for me. I'm sure some of them I could find the answers to by searching around but if any of you have quick answers to any of these then I'd appreciate it.

  • How come there is a different 60fps mod for the specials then there is for the other mods?
  • Is there a way I can show just the GPL races in the shared ICAL calendar link?
  • Is there a recommended location for mods I need to install? (as in, where to locate them)
  • Is there a way I can check to see what mod and version of a mod I have installed?
  • What kind of checks are performed to make sure everyone uses the same mod?
  • When looking at a league table what do FT and R1 tags represent?

Going to start out in the Ams and F2 races first just to get myself used to the format that you guys use.

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: Cookie on September 16, 2016, 04:21:38 PM +0100
We use to race at IGOR where you can clearly identify the mods.
You can not acces a server with a wrong mod there.

Quote
How come there is a different 60fps mod for the specials then there is for the other mods?

All mods use 60fpsV2newmod patch exept the 67GT and 69Xtra wich use 60fpsV1.

This has to do with the base mod used by the mod teams wich are more develloped today.

Quote
When looking at a league table what do FT and R1 tags represent?

FT = fulltime = more than 75% at the registation poll
R1 = first reserve = less than 75% at the registation poll

Hello, another coming back GPL driver here, from Poland. Last time I've raced GPL was around early 2000's and this time I would like to enjoy 1965 season. So far I've been running Honda RA-272 (love that six gear transmission and high reving engine).

My wheel is Logitech Formula (yes, the old all yellow rubber one), but still have two Formula Force (again the old all red rubber) and Jens Schumacher ball bearing mod, still sealed in a bag  :o  ;D  :o
Best regards, Czary.

I hope you enjoy the fun and the racing as much as you did before.

I'm not sure how quick you are in the 65's, so perhaps you can start in the Amateurs division to find your level?

Can you vote/register on this page:-

http://www.brandshatch.co.uk/calendar/2017/july/hscc-01-02-july.aspx

Also please take a look at the rules etc which have probably changed a little since the early2000's.

EDIT   OOPS!
Sorry Czary I was doing some other research when I came  across your post.  Thanks Tim for spotting the slight error  ::)

Thank you for the link- I've registered for the 1965 Amateurs.
Is there any chance to know your laptimes on Road Atlanta in 1965 cars ?

...Is there any chance to know your laptimes on Road Atlanta in 1965 cars ?...

Welcome! The next round for the 65 cars is a new version of Road America, not Road Atlanta. Get it here: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=11724

As it's a brand new track, there are no laptimes available yet. WR on the old, ugly, buggy one is a 2:17.3 (I'd expect the faster Ams to be in the 2:25-ish range on it), but no idea how that would relate to the new version.

added: just ran a few laps, best was a rather sloppy 2:27 (some time still to make up, couple of tricky braking zones), so looks like it's a few seconds slower than the old version

Post by: Cookie on April 02, 2017, 12:35:24 PM +0100
I just did some laps and would say a laptime of ~ 2:24 - 2:26 should be possible. A tow will make ~ -2sec!

Here is a alien laptime http://freeleo.hu/weekly/?page=Race%20info&race=201704040

My Albi setup worked fine here.

Welcome Czary, hopefully all goes well for Road America. Feel free to ask if you have any questions or problems joining. I will not know the answer, but maybe someone else will.  I am glad that you asked about the laptimes because I did not know what to expect.

Good luck,

Thank you all for the warm welcome. The only thing I'm not sure about is do I have to modify anything in IGOR/WinVROC settings to join UKGPL server ? Another thing is- as I enter this post : https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14348.0 I see "You are not licensed to enter this series"  ::) ???

Post by: Cookie on April 03, 2017, 11:50:52 AM +0100
The registration has to be verified manually -> done ;)

You must not change anything in IGOR to join the UKGPL server.

Just make shure You use the new iGOR IP  blw.net  in the igor.ini

Code:
[ RaceListServers ]
IP                        = blw.net

PS

Test it at the UKGPL practice server at iGOR running this afternoon!

Clive I don't use a PW for training server (only for 69X and GTs where you can join with 36fps)

IMO your joining problem has to do with messed XXseason.ini's
You can look into it and find the mistakes by wrong names and countries...
If you add a new track it is placed at the end of file.
Never let GEM+ sort a season by directory name!

I use the 67season.ini for all mods.

Just getting back into GPL after 10 years away.

I used to have a hot lapping tool, similar to Pribluda but different, but I can't remember its name.
It ran as an overlay, like Pribluda, but gave you a permanent delta to your best lap, all the way round the circuit.

Can anybody remember its name, or have a copy?

Dave

Dave,
I don't recognise the hotlap tool you describe. Pribluda gives you real time info for the 4 split times every lap, but only goes green when when you get a best sector time. Once you have reacustomiced yourself with GPL you are more than welcome to join us for proper league racing.

Hi Tim!  Make a new install with the All-in-One Installer here  :  https://gplps.wordpress.com/gplps-gpl-installer/  It's supposed to fix the main problems caused by modern Windows settings.  GEM+ should do the rest of the work.  More than 1 GPL install can be used.

I've recently upgraded smoothly to Win7 by this method, and would hope newer versions work as well.

Ziu Bacubacu, who races in GTL is trying to set up GPL and join us for some races.

It is such a long time ago that I did this that it might be better if maybe someone with more in depth knowledge offered the correct advice.

He is currently trying to find which 65 CAREST he should select? At the moment he is only seeing FG and FD and I cannot remember how we get the 1965 GRAND PRIX carset option?

I'm already speaking with him via IM. We have the 65 car set queries  and varios graphics parameters sorted. Discussing GPL's (Rather poor) sound options when compared to more modern sims and also working through the various 60fps patches and when to use them.

Hopefully he will be online with us all soon. :)

Hi guys. I'm looking for a link to the installer, as mentioned in the 4th line on the very first post on this forum. The link just takes me to a .php file but the link within fails to get me anywhere. Had a quick search on the forum and a few other places but unable to find this installer download. Can anyone help me out here?

[EDIT] Managed to find the old download I got from 2 years ago and searched for this file name. I'm able to get the installer from https://gplps.wordpress.com/gplps-gpl-installer/ (https://gplps.wordpress.com/gplps-gpl-installer/)

I have some questions about installing mods. I used the GPL Installer to install the game. How can I check if the mods did install correctly, and how can I switch to the 65 car set for example? If I wanted to install a seperate mod after using the installer do I have to use the installer again or install the mod separately?

For the mods organization you need the GEM+ package wich contains iGOR for online racing and the Setup Manager too.

Hi guys.
in this race (Rouen mod67) we will have a new driver, my friend Pedro Ramalho, from portugal.
he runs in gplbrasil, but lately he is very disappointed to have frequent problems with the brazil-portugal connection.
inexplicable things of the ways of internet.because we have pilots from germany, uk, usa, canada, mexico, italy.
but the Portuguese and Argentines have frequent connection problems.
I hope Pedro can have answers around here, he will run in test mode without worrying about results at first,
at the moment it looks for answers to the frequent problems.
Welcome, Pedro!

Thank you JonnyO for the invitation and presentation. It is an honor for me to take part in this league. I come a bit unmotivated with GPL because of the frequent connection problems I've had in the few online races that I've taken part, but who knows if these problems do not happen here, I get motivated again. For now, I intend to take part only in a few races. Thank you in advance for the receptiveness of the organization for my entry and hope to do my small contribution for the success of the season in the league.

Thanks, I have installed the 55s, 65s and Sportcars so far, still need to grap the 67 and 69 extra mods.

Something I'm having trouble with is downloading tracks from SMRZ, I have attempted to register at there forums but I have not had any approval yet which was about 4 days ago, so I cannot download some of the required tracks as they are members only.

On the plus side I have managed to get IGOR to works and a racelist etc.

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on February 17, 2019, 08:51:19 PM +0000
Not really sure about that.

Have you tried through the GPL Track Database - http://gpltd.bcsims.com/

I think it might direct you straight to SRMZ for some tracks.

Let me know if you are continuing to have problems.

Hi Guys.

making big efforts to get my GPL back up and running so i can get playing and practicing offline and racing online with UKGPL

I have though had some problems....

I have had trouble getting back onto some sites that are needed to get myself sorted and to download all needed mods, tracks, patches etc etc..

I have created a new email account and managed to sign up to SRMZ but although I'm logged in I cant open or download anything. i cant even open JPG,s  .. any ideas or are there any SRMZ moderators etc that can help please.

I cant get onto either of the 2 track databases. i cant even create new accounts because you can fill in all the boxes etc but then their isn't a button to click to send the details.  again please any help much appreciated.

yours Paul V.

p.s.  I will also start a new thread re the best PC build for GPL. but firstly will GPL run OK on win 10??

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: Cookie on March 10, 2019, 06:16:46 PM +0000
Paul most tracks + mods are hosted at SRMZ today...

So the first thing to get sorted is the access there!
If not logged in there you should see a hint what to do first to contact Ginetto to give you access. It's allways done manually!
"Have you got Registration Issues"-> http://srmz.net/index.php?act=idx

IMO GPL runs best and troublefree with W7, but this will be maybe for another year only...

The threads about GPL-W10 troubles are long and manifold ::)

Hi Cookie...

hope your well mate.  just posted at SRMZ. ta for the link.

I want to build a GPL only PC.   so win 7 doesnt bother me. Im happy with that. I have 2 PCs ones spare.

I will build the faster one for GPL. I will list its specs in another thread and get some idea how best to build it. the other one I will build and host as a race server if its any help to UKGPL.

would win7 be best for that too?

like most peeps these days I use a Laptop for most of my computer use in general.

Cheers. PaulV

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: PaulV on March 10, 2019, 08:09:55 PM +0000
Hi  Billy..

will stick with WIN 7 then.  already own that.

would a server be best on 7, 10 or an earlier version of Windows.  both PC,s have their problems to say the least.
both been victims of needing to many updates due to long time lack of use.  I also had a power cut while updating on of them the other day... didn't do it much good I'm afraid

managed to recover both PC's by using the " last known good" option..  but they are both pretty temperamental now.
so rebuilds needed.

could update to win 10 fro free I think on one of the PC's if that's suitable for use as a GPL server.

PaulV.

cheers for all your help the other evening mate.. mucho appreciated.

Hi Stoyan

Welcome to UKGPL!

To enter the 65F1 championship submit a vote using the button at the top of this thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=15540).

Since you are new to GPL I suspect you will need some time to check your installation works and that you can join our servers. I'll set mine up (UKGPL_4) with a 65 race so you can do some testing.

Please try to read through our rules (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro) on the UKGPL web site (https://www.ukgpl.com/). Have a read of the Recommended Driver Behaviour (https://www.ukgpl.com/rec_dvr_beh/rec_driver_beh.htm) and etiquette (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/etiquette) pages in particular. You should find the pages on side-by-side contact (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/side_by_side_simple_4_a) and the use of mirrors (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/overlap) useful.

Good luck in your first race  :thumbup1:

Phil

Hi Ian,

Welcome back to where the fun is as addictive as it ever was. Do not worry about being "back up to speed", there are drivers of all levels still enjoying GPL ( some names you might recognise? ).

Besides the regular season races, which you will find on the forum, we are running various fun and entertaining races to occupy members during the current lockdown. Tonight there is a handicap race at Monza ( the original Papyrus track ), which in theory at least, will generate close total race times across the board.....we will see  ;)

I suspect that quite a few technical things have changed since you last turned wheels in anger at UKGPL. Most obvious is the 60 fps patch that moved GPL into the better graphics dept, but there are likely to be one or two other tekky  questions and pitfalls in getting everything working smoothly. Do not despair, simply post any issues here and someone far more intelligent than myself will guide you through it ( My reputation for handling modern technology is almost legendary, I just wish my racing was as well known!  :-\ ).

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the racing  ;)

Trying to install the 69 Extra mod and it's one of the required tracks....however the only link I can find from the Track Database is on SMRZ...for which I don't have an account and I'm not sure it's being monitored anymore for creating new logins  ???

Cheers

It is on SRMZ  http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=9322&hl=montjuich#entry96386

If you have troubles with registration there, I can contact Ginetto for help

The admins in srmz have to regster you manually...

Montjuich is a very heavy track so I uploaded lite + standart version choose one add fix anyway
Get it here : https://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/6lU3qsCh1UsrOdyW8jmUpsE5bv%2FQbCgP

Good morning all

I would like to ride this year with you in GrandPrix in 67 and maybe in multi season if I have the time

I also wanted to apologize to the organizers because in fact I was careful that the season started already last night and I joined the race with a bad chassis because the server was launched, sorry sorry and sorry.

Hello UKGPL. How are you all.

After several years out I have decided to dust off my wheel (literally) and see if I can discover some of the old magic. Just went round Silverstone in a Lotus in 1:38 - oops. At least I didn't spin.

Hope you are all well.

Paul.

Really great to hear from you, hope you are well. You will recognise most things, we haven't changed very much since you were last with us. Just a few more exciting mods which I'm sure you will enjoy. Your old favourites, the 65s are out tomorrow  ;)

Can't remember how to get in or what to do or how to check my patch level, see if I have the 60fps mod.

I have a lightning fast new PC and am getting 25fps locally :(

Any reminders anyone. And does anyone run practice servers these days?

Sure I can get UKGPL3 up and going again.

GPL is like riding a bike. Except it's the sort of bike that needs a major service & new parts & accessories every few months.

Good to see you back.

You need to set the graphics options manually by configuring the graphics profile for each of the executables.

Hi Bruno, welcome to UKGPL  ;) .

Take a look here    https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0     look for  "SEASON 37 REGISTRATIONS"   and select which race series you would like to take part in. There are 4 REGISTRATION options. Simply vote in each one that you wish to race.

We have many races planned,  right now we are having a vacation away from league racing until 30th August. But we will have some fun races before the serious stuff starts that you can join in before that date. Watch the forum     https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=53.0      for info about races.

Bonjour Philippe

Welcome back, please have a look at home page (https://www.ukgpl.com), there are links on there to all the registration threads. The 55GP cars are new since you last raced with us. If you haven't tried them, have a go off-line before you decide if you want to have a go with them.

The Mixed Open Wheel might be of interest to you. Your race history suggests this would be a good series for you.

When you decide which championships you want to race in, just vote in the associated thread.

Regards

Phil

Hi All

the appeal of GPL has got me back sim racing after what seems an age since the last time I raced

I am amazed how many driver names i recognise who are still enjoying GPL ad reading the thread above a few have come back recently too

having loaded up a new build, most things seem to come back to me and work OK

couple of questions

is there a particular chat room to use before a race. I am a reserve and from memory we used to meet in a chat room and wait to be told if OK to join

in setup info it recommends loading up teamspeak. Is it used?

is there any basic setups for the 55 mod? or advice to get started with a setup for these?

cheers

Peter

Hi Pete,
Welcome back after what must be a very long time.

As far as I'm aware the Chat Forum in Igor doesn't get used that regularly. For some reason I can no longer access the GPL chatroom.

Teamspeak is used by a few drivers.

I think you've signed up for the GP Sprint (67's) & 55's. For the 67's there are 22 registrations but only 17 drivers who have scored points. If there is a free space at 9pm it should be fine to join the server - I'd be surprised if there wasn't.
Not sure about the 55's.

True, and it's a great shame.  The pre and post race banter used to be the highlight of each event!

I think that we had a full grid in the 55s on Sunday.  But they are a tad tricky and only four went the full distance.

Hello everyone,

11 months since I've got back to GPL, 10 months since I joined oAo, now I'm intending to enhance my participation in league racing...

I consider myself to be relatively quick but I don't really know whether I would classify myself as a works driver or as a privateer as my lack of consistency has denied me from getting some results in my GPL league racing career so far. How do you here at UKGPL assess someone's class?

Title: Re: New Drivers
Post by: Phil Thornton on November 03, 2020, 11:23:12 AM +0000
Hi lalb2001

It normally takes a few races to work out the relative ability of a new driver. I suggest you register for the championships you are interested in and we'll make you a works driver for the rest of the season. At the start of next season we will have a better idea if you fit into the Works or Privateer category.

If we made you a Privateer and you turned out to be too fast and easily won the remaining races, the results would distort the current Privateers Championships without you being able to win. The most you could score would be 3 × 50 = 150.

Welcome to UKGPL

Regards

Phil

Hi Leo

Welcome to UKGPL, we are running the 67F1 series as a joint venture with our friends at GPL Brazil so hopefully you will be familiar with the rules. I suggest you join the Privateers, there is a translation of the rules here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=23602.msg444501#msg444501). Please vote in this thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=23382).

I see you have already voted in the 55GP, I've processed your registration so you now appear in the championship table (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1272&theme=6). The rules for the 55GPs are published above the championship table.

Some of you gents might remember me from the old GPL days, 2007 WC 40th, 2008 World Cup and all that ? Or not ;D. Anyways, nice to see so many familiar names around here, whether from the UK (sup Iestyn !), South America, my native Gaul or elsewhere.

I'm fixing to do a GPL-only season in 2021, back to the roots kinda thing. I would be very interested in running in your 1967 F1 Grand Prix series with its cool format and schedule.

Welcome DD. I thought that GPL had slipped under your radar and you only wanted to race "tin tops" in GTL.

Which series are you considering, or will you be trying ALL of them lol.

FWIW.
The 1965 cars are generally considered to be the easiest to drive and are great fun at 100%.
The 1966 cars offer a slightly bigger challenge with nimble 2ltr cars and heavier ( but faster) 3ltr cars
The 1967 cars are still the hardest to get right ( ask Hristo lol ).

We also race the 1968 GP cars, the 1969 GP cars ( with wings ), the 1970 Sports/GT cars, the 1971 Can AM cars which are insanely powerful. There are also 1966 Can Ams which are slightly more civilised, but for me the 1955 cars with skinny tyres and built in brake fade present something entirely different that will screw with your mind. lol

Not that fast though as with GT Legends but i am totally impressed! I drove Ferrari 1965 at Nordschleife 67 and 55 Lancia D50 at Spa-Francorchamps 67 - the beautiful one. I really loved the game already and i am ready for even more in the coming months. I totally love to feel the car, to control it with the throttle and the brake. Much more than ACC, AC, rF2 and the other modern stuff IMO. I can see why GPL has the biggest community here. :)

In the game menu? left and right? that is ok as there it is 640x480 (600x800) resolution,

in game driving you have to set it to your screens resolution - e.g. 1920x1080 - without black bars

I have been having a great time racing a 67F1x novice season offline.

It has been a while since I’ve raced with you all. It will be as though I am a completely new driver.

It is good to see some familiar names on UKGPL. It might be interesting to look up how long it has been since my last race.

I still have my trusty g27 wheel. Unfortunately my shifter has been lost. So I am using the flappy paddles.

I use 2560 x 1440 which I believe is the natural resolution of my monitor.

It is central but I do have to use full screen when driving the Maserati to be able to see all of the mirrors.  In letterbox mode I don't get the bottom half of the mirrors.

Are you setting this in the player.ini?  I ask this because to answer your question I went searching in GEM for my current settings and when I tried GPL it had reset itself to 640 x 480.

Post by: Cookie on December 19, 2023, 06:58:55 PM +0000
The view in-game seems to be cropped - the car appears in the bottom right of the screen and is off-center.

2- If you want to turn this off permanently, go to Windows Start menu > Settings > Display > Change the size of text, apps and other items. In the drop-down menu select 100% (Recommended).

You da man. I was at 125%, which I always use, so maybe I had done something different before...
In 3440x1440 I am now central, and with no letterbox and can see most of both mirrors
and enough oif the dials to see the brake light.

Thanks.

There is a small software patch that allows you to maximise/calculate/perfect your view, and also somewhere a way to move your seat fore and aft, or up and down.
The end result is that you can get to see both mirrors fully, and have a "realistic" forward field of view.
Unfortunately I cannot recall where these are hidden, but I'm sure that someone will post the info. In the meantime, if you want to see both mirrors you can adjust your "field of view" angle by a few degrees within GEM?

I think you are describing the Head Movement Patch Clive. I've recently updated the first post in this thread (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6787.msg118356#msg118356) to include advice about the Head Movement Patch and Nvidia GPU settings.

Yes, the Head movement patch 3.0 on Lee#s page - but be carefull with the Head movement, you get seasick... but to move your POV its perfect.

I think I will need it for the 55mod, as I have to run 2560x1440 to be able to see
and Cookie thinks my graphics card is being lazy, so I need to give it some work to do
in F2 and 67GP I can run 3440x1440, and I can see things fine.
It's less width, more height that is the problem for most cars.

I have been testing at a couple of tracks with F2, and 3440, and so far I have no CTD
I live in Hope. (which is in Derbyshire)

Happy Christmas everyone.

Thanks FUlvio

I have sorted it. I have had trouble previously trying to install some things that the links on here point to
windows has blocked install to protect me, apparently....

Had tried several things but no effect. I was not able to install the "GPL65F1_Alternative__2.0.2"
so I installed the 2.0.1 (not aware it was .1) So I removed the .1 and turned off UAC with regedit
rebooted, and now I can install 2.0.2, and everything works. I have 5x 65 seasons now  :o
I am assuming the one called "65SEASON" is the one to use. So thanks for any words of encouragement  :thumbup1:

Can we replace the link for track gap freeze, as the link is not working, please?

I put it in the "replay" folder - so get it at every race post

Thanks for spotting this, I'll fix it ASAP. In the interim Cookie has placed a copy in the Season 44 replays folder.

As this is a permanently used patch, I put a copy of it in each mod folder, I make it once and never forget it .

Path is c:/GPL/Mods/GEM+/

Cookie found the Track Gap Freeze Fix thread on the new GPL Racer site. The links on the New Drivers page and Championship pages have been updated.
