1  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F2 (Professionals) - Ingliston - Mar 26 on: March 27, 2024, 05:28:10 PM +0000
It was a really fun race for me, with a great battle between Yannick, Evil and myself. The latecomers often made the difference at times, but it was difficult for them on this small track, I understand.
I've not watched the replay yet so I don't know if I got in anyone's way when I was being lapped. However, I do remember watching my mirrors and pribulda on about lap 30 when I was dicing with Fulvio and the leaders were catching and about to lap us. Fulvio was all over my gearbox and Pat was leading Yannick. I was getting ready to move over at the right time when I saw Pat spin in my mirrors Shocked

A lap or so later I managed to let Yannick through (who by now had Pat all over his gearbox) by moving over at the start of the "straight".

If we did get in your way, I'm sorry Pat, but as you say this track is very tight and lapping is difficult.

Thanks for stepping in and providing a server Dave  thumbup2 thumbup2 thumbup2

That was a manic race as usual here. I hadn't had time to develop a setup so I decided to take the Ferrari. It is a bit slow but I'm not great here so anything better would probably have been a waste of tokens. I tried to drive carefully and let other people make mistakes, the strategy worked to some extent but the Achilles heel was that I still made mistakes. Nevertheless I had a good battle with Dimi and Fulvio. The last lap was fun, Yannick was closing fast to lap us for a second time and as we crossed the line the chequered flag came out. I figured that was for Yannick and that me and Fulvio had another lap to do so I pressed on. Fulvio did the same and I managed to hold him off for the last lap. It would have been very easy to get confused and pull over thinking the race was over but I've been playing this game long enough now to know better, so has Fulvio!  wheelchair wheelchair scooter

That was a very competitive field, some vary fast times and not much covering the top 15. I had a few decent battles in the early stages and at about half distance I was in 8th place with Doni some 200-300 yards behind. I tried to managed the gap and it was looking good until I made a small mistake and ran wide at Tamburello. I recovered without hitting the fence but by the time I got to Tosa, Doni was all over my gearbox. I figured all I had to do was drive carefully and not make any mistakes and Doni would find it very hard to overtake. The plan was working well for a couple more laps and then my engine packed up  taz  GPL said clutch but the engine was on fire. Anyway race over and a chance to fight with Doni over the last few laps was gone  Sad

There was a mistake in the calendar which was corrected a while ago, I suspect you noted down the dates in your diary when the calendar was first published. The F2 race dates are:

26/03/2024       Tuesday   20:30 GMT   Ingliston 1968
23/04/2024       Tuesday   20:30 BST    Snetterton 67

Please note the time zone. The UK (and most countries in Europe) daylight saving changes come into effect on 31/3/2024

..... those cars have the early new tyre-model of GPL and tend to sudden snap over when temps reach 80°.....
That explains a lot.

That was a busy race! My car was on a knife edge under braking, a fraction too late and I was off. It was manageable on my own but in traffic there was too much going on and I screwed up too many times. I had a great race with Tom, Cookie and Tris. I was catching Tom and Tris with 2 laps top go but I put a wheel on the grass and that was it, a massive spin and any chance of challenging them was gone.

I don't think I was the only one with brake issues. Both Tom and Cookie lost it under braking. I saw them both in my mirrors I managed to dive out of Tom's way but I lost sight of Cookie and despite running as wide as I could we made contact. I could continue without damage so no harm done.

Season 44 F1 1967 PRIVATEERS – Round 6 – Imola
The sixth race in the 1967 Works Grand Prix series finds us at Imola. The track was inaugurated in 1953, and it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque Minerali all the way to Rivazza was just a long straight with a few small bends; and the circuit remained in this configuration until 1972. Long time home of the San Marino Grand Prix (and once of the Italian Grand Prix) the circuit is fast, bumpy and dangerous. After the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994, the track was remodelled to reduce speeds but we use the original, high speed layout.

THERE ARE MORE THAN 19 REGISTERED DRIVERS IN THIS SERIES, SO :
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please READ CAREFULLY THE RULES :
A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

MOD PRO so no shift-R

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I am just not sure how to make Stop/Gos but I guess this will be figured out as well. Count me in.
The guidance on how to do a S&G is here.

We used to mandate S&Gs for resets but in recent years we've stopped doing that. The driving standards are so high now a reset is detrimental enough. Driver's find it hard to overcome the disadvantage of the extra fuel. The additional deterant of a S&G is overkill.

Enrique proved the Lancia had the legs to stay in the slipstream of the Mercs but I didn't have the same pace. So after the first lap sorting ourselves out (me, Evil, Syd and Fulvio) I found myself leading the pack and it was down to me to try to latch onto the Mercs ahead. Unfortunately I didn't manage it and Evil's plan was scuppered. However, it turned out to be a great race and as Evil has said, 5th was probably the best he could have hoped for if he had been in the leading group.

Despite Enrique's disco I was very pleased with the servers last night. As usual I ran both the Works and Privateer servers on my home broadband connection and the lag was minimal. I didn't see any warping despite having drivers in several different time zones. Let's hope the internet continues to perform well  Grin
