SRou / Announcements / 23 February: Site database restore
|
on: February 23, 2024, 08:21:24 AM +0000
|
Late last night there was an issue with the database which holds the forum and race results data; attempts to correct it failed, with the unfortunate result that I've had to restore the back which was taken in the early hours of Thursday morning, which means that any forum messages (topic or instant) and any event updates, results imports or court actions from yesterday have been lost.
I apologise for the inconvenience and am going to look again and how the site, and particularly its database, is hosted to see if there's a way to reduce the chances of it happening again.

UKGTL / UKGTL Announcements / Virus scans reporting false positives
|
on: December 12, 2023, 05:34:54 PM +0000
|
I'm aware that at least one of the popular virus scanners is currently reporting false positives against many of the GTL downloads hosted here. The files have not suddenly become infected and are unchanged from over five years ago.
If folks want to report them, I need very specific information, not just "my virus scanner thinks it's infected". I can do nothing without knowing which scanner and which virus/trojan et cetera it claims is present.

SRou / Announcements / Re: Server donations

As you may have read in this thread, it's been decided to discontinue the renting of a dedicated server at the end of this month, in favour of individually hosted servers. Between reduced grid sizes, some series ending and improvements in the quality of domestic broadband, there isn't a strong case for a paid server any more. I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed, not just to this round of funding but over the many years prior. SRou would not still be here today without you. And another big "thank you" to Picnic who has worked tireless behind the scenes for the best part of two decades to keep the server running. Thank you everyone!

Thanks, everyone - despite these tough times we've made it back to a small surplus for the quarter.

Don't worry, the Russians haven't hacked us, just a local power outage that took the website down for a few hours. Restored now but there may be some brief outages later as UKPowerNetworks complete remedial actions on the power network.

In the constructor's championship we have Nissan and not Datsun. Is this correct? Strictly speaking no, but Dave has listed some older Datsun's as Nissan in our car database. Strictly speaking the 240Z was actually the Nissan Fairlady Z - it was "only" in export markets (i.e. almost everywhere outside of Japan) it was badged as the Datsun 240Z, largely because Nissan US realised that marketing a brawny sportscar as the "Fairlady" was likely to result in hairdresser jokes... The Datsun brand was only ever a sub-brand of Nissan.
