Moderator's Report

Summary

A flag to flag victory for John Bradbury after setting a qualifying time in his Brabham faster than his own world record. Ronnie was trying very hard to keep John honest but it was too much for the Weslake and his Eagle came to grinding halt on lap 16, unlucky Ronnie. Andrew managed to keep his Ferrari ahead of the rest of the field and he claimed the runner-up spot on the podium. Attilio drove a brilliant race to grab the final podium place in the big BRM.

The red zone was incident free with only one incident of note in the rest of the race. Well done to everyone on some excellent clean driving.

Server replay time: 0h03m58s

Lap 3 - Double Droite de l’Aerodrome - Jethro Walters and Doni Yourth

Jethro gets a decent draft along the Ligne Droite du Rajol and tries to attack Doni on the inside at Double Droite de l’Aerodrome. Jethro does get along side and has the inside line but Doni hasn't seen him and takes his normal line into the corner. Contact is made and both cars spin off; Doni's BRM is terminally damaged and he is out of the race out of the race. Jethro manages to continue.

Jethro did come from a long way back but he managed over a 50% overlap at turn in and was certainly ahead when contact was made. The question is, "Would Jethro have made the corner?". At the end of the "BP" barrier Jethro was doing 72mph, 4mph faster than the quickest driver on that lap (John Bradbury) with most other drivers doing about 64 or 65 mph at that point. Jethro was quick but not reckless, he would almost certainly have made the corner but may have run slightly wide on the exit.

Doni was concentrating on his own race and clearly didn't expect Jethro to attack from such a long way back. Jethro's move was visible in Doni's mirrors so he had an opportunity to stay wide (in fact Jethro is in clear view from Doni's cockpit when contact is made) but it would be harsh to suggest Doni did anything wrong.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start line to the Virage du Parc. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Hopefully got the setup where I want it, had to make a new one to tame the beast SHE gives the privileged few.

Sorry to Doni, will have a look at the replay to see what happened tomorrow, but right now am in a bit of a state. Quite why I continue to put myself through this torture I dunno. Keep telling myself there's always a next time, but maybe not this time, maybe I'm not cut out for this.

I have a host of rubbish going on in my private life and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but should have stayed away tonight.

To top it off, I wondered why I had no force feedback, turned out I'd unplugged it last night and forgot about it today.

Sad

My frame rate was bad again tonight, couldn't control the car properly with frame rate varying between 29 and 36 FPS. I think I know what I did to upset it so hopefully it will be OK next time.  Good job I didn't waste any tokens.

Tough one Doni, everyone gets a run of bad luck sometimes.  Odds are it will get better soon.

Jethro, we all feel like that now and again.  GPL is a bit like playing golf.  Just one good shot in a round and you keep on coming back for more (and you forget all the bad shots).  Just ease yourself back in, it will take a while to get back up to your best having been away for a long time.

From last on the grid to 5th, including some real overtaking  Shocked

Thx Fulvio for fire up the backside. Hope you didn't  crash when i Suddenly disappeared Wink

Really annoyed. 2nd race in 2 weeks where an update has run mid-race, taking out all sounds, and a lot of force feedback sensation. Caused me to go off in P3 and got stuck for a long time getting out of the stands - rejoined in P10 and a mixture of passes and other's bad luck put me back up to P5, but no further. I just couldn't judge the revs without sound, had lots of near spins/crashes and a such couldn't get close enough to attack Fulvio.

At least this week, I was able to see which program was trying to update - one I'd disabaled years ago. No idea why it suddenly thought it was allowed to look for updates, but I've disabled this again.

Very annoying - I couldn't catch Ronnie and John in the early stages, and AndyL was having trouble staying with me. With Ronnies bad luck, can't help thinking this was a P2 opportunity lost........

Another race, another disco  Undecided

I think I could compose a standard text to insert for every race at the moment.......

"Managed a reasonable grid slot.....got away well......avoided the usual T1 incident (by driving right around the outside).

Found myself in 4th  5th spot as lap 1 unfolded and the tyres warmed up..... A mistake by the car in 3rd place car as we started lap 2...up to 3rd with a big gap back to the car behind...............1st and 2nd cars still in sight  and I knew I could go faster, looking good.........Disco!!!!!!"

Watch out for another thrilling instalment after the next race.................

Indeed I was worried you would reapperead on my head while following you on the straight so I took another line, bit I felt sad when I saw you disco, nice battle till there.
Disable screen saver and any other power saving facilities, GPL isn't recognised as an application running by Windows. Same for updates.

I would love to say I was pushing hard to catch John when my engine blew but I would be lying. I was just trying to gently increase my lead over Arf lap by lap to ensure second spot on the podium when the engine just went bang and it was race over. Gotta be philosophical about these things, so see you all at the next one

Grats to John, AndyL and Art.

In qualy I blew an engine and also had a screen freeze with the ever increasing revs. I was happy with 5th. I had enough pace to stay ahead of those behind, but not enough to try a pass ahead. Just like at the Glen through others misfortunes and no skill on my part, I managed to cruise around and get lapped and find myself 4th, then 3rd and 2nd.
I was quite surprised to finish there.
Grats to JB - different class and WR too.

I had a nice quiet race, everything went well on the night, i saw a few battles as i was passing by, i did manage to go a little quicker than my previos time set a few years back, so that was a nice thing.
Grats to finishers.

Great little track to race on, see you at imola!
