Greg, have a look at the lap times for the privateers last season and compare them to your times.  If you are faster than Cookie, Hendy or Andreas then please register for the works.  If you are a similar speed you'll be OK in the Privateers.

Having seen you drive Greg, I suspect you are Works class.

Here's my thoughts on the subject. Being my first season I might ought to run Privateers. I like the minor differences in the Privateer schedule better. And if the Privateers need more drivers, I don't mind helping to fill the grid. I'm thinking I'm a little faster than Cookie and Hendy but I might just be having delusions. And if I get on a roll at the Nurburgring, it might be pretty ugly what I do to the Privateer division. The unfamiliarity of five of the tracks may slow me down some but with 8 laps of practice before the Privateer race at Estoril I dropped almost two seconds from my qualifying time during the race and almost matched Hendy's fast lap. I used my Zandvoort setup with some minor camber changes. Tuning the setup and some more practice there would have dropped my times significantly.

There's nothing about the Works division that concerns me. I'd likely be one of the slower cars. I'd rarely, if ever, get near the pole or fast lap. I might get some good finishes through consistency and attrition. The greater challenge would probably help make me a better driver. Prior to getting online recently, I had been running full length Grand Prix and Can Am races. So I do have practice with realistic damage and long races.

I'd like to join the Works division unless I'm needed in Privateers. I'd also like to let everybody else help make the decision.

Andreas is the season 25 Privateers champion
David,

In season 25 there were 22 drivers registered for the Works but the grid varied between 11 and 15 drivers.  If Hendy, Cookie and Andreas (they shared the majority of race wins) all moved up and Greg, Robert Fleurke and Tristan join the works then we probably have too many works drivers.  But if that is the case who moves down?  Without Hendy, Cookie and Andreas the rest of the Privateers would have a great fight for the championship and a lot of fun in the process.

Who, if anyone, should move down from the works?  It's true that you and I are probably the slowest but the championship positions don't reflect that.  You finished second and I finished 7th.  Whoever moves down from the Works will no doubt be a strong challenger for the Privateers title.  So we have to be careful if we move anyone down so that we don't ruin the championship for the remaining privateers.

I suggest we wait a little longer until the registrations are complete.  Then we will know if anyone needs to move down or if Hendy or Cookie should move up.  As the champion Andreas definitely should move up.  If we can't accommodate you, me, Hendy, Cookie, Andreas, Greg, Robert Fleurke and Tristan in the works then perhaps we should think about moving a block of drivers down.  Filling up the Works and leaving one fast driver to dominate the Privateers would be the worst scenario.  Moving a block of drivers down would at least produce two competitive championships.

Some wise words from Phil.  Encouraging fast drivers to move up, isn't about punishiment - it's about providing them with good racing.   A minority of racers are only interested in 1st place.  Most are interested in dicing for a well earned result.  I suspect most would like to see a worthwhile quantity of cars on the grid.

Just a heads up on Baab in S26. He will want to be in Works, but can't register at the moment. He moved into a new house in early December and is still waiting on the incredibly inefficient german** telecomms service connecting his phone and broadband. He's worried that he might miss the first race (maybe 2 if he's really unlucky).
