Season 27 – Friday Trophy

A continuation of our light hearted series. The Friday Trophy - mixed mods, mixed tracks, mixed abilities! There will be no split between light and heavy classes but we will offer faster drivers the choice of a slower chassis. If you decide you want to take the fastest car and we consider that you are one of the boy racers, we may call you to the Headmaster's study.

Will teams appear? What about the fast chaps pairing up with a Sunday driver? Who knows what this trophy brings but it will be FUN!

Each race night will feature a sprint and a longer race in the same Mod. The same track will be used for three rounds with the mods alternating between 69X; GT and Can Am. The mix of tracks; mods and formats should create a real challenge but the accent is on ENJOYMENT!

Please check the Season 27 pages for details regarding rules and the Friday Trophy  pages in particular.

The races will be run as follows:

Car set: 69X; GT; CanAm spec format
Date: Every Friday from 25th July 2014
Time: 8:45pm and 9.20pm UK Time (Approx 15 mins practice for the short race and 10 mins for the long race, races starts around 9:00pm and 9:35pm)
Race Length: Short; Intermediate
Damage Model:  Intermediate
Server(s): UKGPL8; UKGPL9 and UKGPL3, as necessary.
Race List: IGOR

Only ONE Reset is allowed per race with NO stop and go but we expect gentlemanly conduct in not taking advantage of that (if you cause a crash, let the other driver past!).

Provisional Calendar as follows:

Likewise - might show up for a race or 2, but have lost interest in this Series.  Good hunting to hopefuls.

Note to Paul :  It would be good if you'd show above, who the Div. Mod. will be.  They deserve recognition for the good work to be done. angel  We've only Mr. Anon. at this mo.

I voted less than 75% but that doesn't mean I won't make most of the races. I've voted as a reserve for all the series except full time for the Works series. I expect that I will participate in this series second most compared to the Works series. It is my second favorite series.

It looks like my learning curve for the 166 is now going to become much longer. I had begun to start enjoying to learn to drive the 166 and Lotus 49 last season. I would have raced in many more of the late season races last season had my father not fallen ill. He has gotten better so I won't have to neglect the Friday series as much now.

It looks like there is going to be a lot of learning to do again. There appears to be many car and track combinations I've never tried. I may have to start at the back of the grid a lot since I don't expect to get the practice I'll need to be well prepared.

Good luck guys! I'm looking forward to seeing you on the track. Please try not to make me drive a Ford much. I'm hoping I can run a 712,910, and 49 most if not all the season. Another suggestion if I may? If we don't have any Heavies it would be nice to get a little action in the M8F.

Oh, calamity! Where is the rest of the open-wheel portion to maintain the open:closed ratio...?

I know there is already a standalone F2series of sorts, but *personally* not overly excited in GT/CA71-laden formula, despite liking the previous Friday appointments.

(Must have missed some vote/poll somewhere...)

However, as long as the evening 'even-ing' is still in place,  maybe there may be some 'heavy' fun to be had I n the rare open-night....

Still, as parents say  - we are sure to enjoy it one there... Hmm...Wink

Yeah I'm in.  I think the tweaks to the format are pretty good.

Just to confirm, we have to use the same car for both races.

I've put >75% as I really want to get some seat time in the CanAms - As with the Pro's I hope I manage this!
(I have a fairly good idea what the fastest GT's and 69's are, But have no idea how the CanAms' compare so will probably use my old method of picking the prettiest one...)

...no idea how the CanAms' compare...

From my experience (backed up for the most part by Rank times):

M8F: Fastest (esp. in straight line) if you can hang on to it (would help if Axel would share his setup  Roll Eyes )
M8B/D: Almost there but not quite as good
T260: 2nd fastest, easier to handle than 8F, it and Shadow are my preferred overall
T222: Nice handling but def. slower
Shadow: Very close to T260, looks better in the shade
Ferrari: Wild child of the gang, near 8B and 222 at most tracks, but likes ditches and trees  Wink
Porsche: The handicap car (if they don't make you use the Fez), sweet handler but down on power

Hope this helps.

There is a significant gap between the M8D 680hp and the M8B/C/E 660hp  Wink
Both are great handling cars.

The Porsche 917 reminds me to the 910 as it is perfect at twisty circuits.

More on paper than anything (in my experience), but I do need more seat time in both. Most of the difference in my Ranks is due to more laps in the 8D.

So basically steer clear of the McLarens unless I suck then?  Wink

My recommendation would be T260 or Shadow until you're more familiar with the mod. You'll be fairly even with the 8D and not far behind the 8F (and then ahead when the 8F goes "RECON!!!" into the woods).
