Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

David Rainier dominates with a Pole-to-Flag victory at a very difficult track. He was helped as his main rival in this race Jonny O. started from the rear of the field. George Cheeseman loses his 3rd place due to ignoring the Shift-R restriction. Francesco inherits P3, but doesn't score points.

Server replay time: 0h23m18s

George Cheeseman has reported he did use two resets. He will be retired at the point of the offence, the second reset.

Season 27 Privateers Trophy - Round 9 - Parco Sempione

Parco Sempione ("Simplon Park") is a large city park in Milan. The park was established in 1888 but the circuit dates from 1937 when the likes of Nuvolari, Rudolf Caracciola and Bernd Rosemeyer drove outrageous cars like the Mercedes-Benz W125 and Auto Union Type C.  A very tight track characteristic of the early days of motor sport, public roads and virtually no concept of safety precautions.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL9
IP = 37.157.48.87
Race date = Sunday 21-12-2014
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Add-on available here
Race length = 40 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Piazza Sempione. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

ok, so I know I'm not speaking for the group - but having downloaded recently & bounced round a couple of laps;  what a poxy track!   Cheesy

I'd rather be at Porto,  or Monaco,  or that other one I can't remember what swoopy bit is coming next.   You know, the one [probably in Barcelona] with the working fountain & hump on the way to the harpin T1.

There again, I probably just need another couple of outings & calm down a bit Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

It's an easy track to learn Dave but it does require concentration to drive it safely.  Like most street circuits it is a bit unforgiving but that is why it's on the calendar, it is a different type of challenge.

I can't string more than 4 laps together without a) hitting something or b) driving ridiculously slow.

Will give it a miss.

For those who are attending - familiarise yourself with the pit lane entry. It's on the right hand side of the track.

Evidently is destiny.This time i was in an unexpected 4th position and my goal,the 50% of the race,was near but at the 17th lap the Brabham of cg7aa(i think) hit me with a classic rear bump.Unfortunately my car finish into the bail,so shift R.After the stop and go,nor 1km,and the engine explode at only 2 laps from the target.Is the third time that this happen,i have collected the same at Glenn,Imola and here at Sempione.
My replay give me an error,so i'm not able to view the incident but ,in any case,I'm a little angry for this incident.

Franceso, my apologies for hitting you. I locked up a bit and as a result didn't slow down as much as I wanted.

Stupid track! Stupid game!  When's the next race?!   Grin

Admittedly didn't practice much for this new track.  Managed a 1:26 the other night bouncing round in a Brabham.  Managed a slightly faster 1:26 in Cooper tonight,  but just don't like that car for some reason.   Then a relative speedy 1:21 in the nice-to-drive Honda on the 1st 'flying' lap in pre-event practice sorted out the car choice.

With the low turn-out, was very hopeful of inheriting a half-decent position;  assuming half the field would overdo it/have bigger issues.
Not exactly sportsman-like thinking,  but true...

Here I should be careful as I've not looked back at the replay yet,  but I think 3 of us had our own crashes with the same hay bale at the same time,  so probable early resets all round.  Despite testing the pit entry a couple of times,  I just forgot where the S/F line & pit area were on the track.   Crashed into the trees on the left side of the track & had to cross the track to get in the pits.  Phew!  Then hit a tree & got stuck leaving the pits!    Still, made 3 laps in total - so early enough to be somewhat amusing.   Would have been less so with 19laps out of the way...

Congrats privs podium - all 3x chaps were moving & saw the flag!   Especially teamie DR - I looked over your shoulder for a while,  it all seemed somewhat clockwork.

Catch up with you for the last event next year.

Hopefully,  there will be some fun stuff before then too Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

Thank you Francesco. Yes, I fully understand your annoyance especially as the car which hit you then got away as you were stuck! I stopped to give the place back but I realised you were stuck and so had to go. I had allowed for the longer braking distance you needed in the heavier car but I was more sideways than I anticipated which made control difficult. I just watched the replay frame by frame from 24mins in car and you can see I have to put on some opposite lock going into the braking zone, then it looked like from my POV, a gap had opened, I aimed for that but realised it was closing fast so I braked quite hard but in doing that, I think I locked the right front enough to compromise my braking and slid into you.

Spent a fair bit of time practising for this but never got to feel comfortable with this track
For some reason, at a few places, my brain couldn't decide what part of the track I was at , or which bit was coming up next
I did qually on full tanks to get used to the loaded car , It felt like I had done 24 hours of le mans but when I looked at my times the most I had done was 2 flying laps  Roll Eyes so a tough track to race IMO
Come the race I tried to get settled in the groove but couldnt get 2 laps together , ended up stuck fast into the straw bales trying to push too hard just as David shot by to lap me , was a bit worried I had spoilt someones day, forgot the S/R and hit the ESC button

Grats to Rainier who again was in a class of his own well done to the rest of you lot .

Have a merry Xmas hope Santa brings you all something special  Smiley

I did some trainings (around 30 laps) the days before the race.
After that, it appears to me this track is much more easy than Monaco for example.

During the race, George was following me at only 3-4 seconds during the first part of the race.
Then, he certainly did several mistakes, because I saw Jonny'O 2nd at 45 sec.
From this moment, I just tried to run regurlarly without taking useless risks.

The end of Jonny's race was really brilliant, I was running between 1'15 and 1'17 but the gap was continuously decreasing : 45s, 40s, 37s, 31sec and finally only 28,9sec.
Jonny connected to the server only 5 minutes before the start and was last on the grid ...if it was not the case  to win would have been very difficult for me !

Grats to Jonny and George, the 2 other finishers.
Grats also to the 4 other drivers who were not afraid to fight on such a track !

A miserable outing though I take comfort from the fact that only 2 of the Works drivers managed to finish.
Onwards to Paradise with only a few dozen concrete tyres to contend with. What could possibly go wrong? scared
