Season 28 Works Trophy - Round 3 - Zandvoort

Winter is finally turning to Spring, the sun is out so it must be time for GPL’ers to take a trip to the seaside & build some sandcastles. You can either pack your bucket & spade or try the GPL method of churning up the sand dunes with you race car. Zandvoort hosted the Dutch grand prix from 1952 to 1985 & is one of the original Papyrus tracks.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Hugenholtzbocht on the first lap . Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers may be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

For Andreas : it is never possible to join your practice Server.  I've not seen anyone able to join, so possibly a problem with your settings?

Hi Martin, lestyn told me something similar the other day. But I think this Problem is only with the 67er, not with the Mods. So I am confused and do not know how to solve it. Maybe someone with more knowledge has a solution?

Make sure the 60fpsv2newmod is used for 67s, as that's what is done for Works & Privateers.

I was helping Pelle to get his server up in Vroc (GPLDK), and first he set up the port forwarding... after that it was the firewall. Once that was resolved it worked no problem. Maybe check the firewall that it lets through GPL67 the same as the other mods? Smiley

IIRC (don't have VROC set up for serving now) port forwarding was a pain in the butt that was the root of most serving issues people had.

reminder: iGOR uses GPLc67.exe, not GPL.exe

As for my race, engine dropped to half power lap 15, soldiered on trying to stay out of the way for 7 more then it died. Sad

Fun til then, grats to finishers.

edit: sorry to whomever I collected after my spin lap 1, had clipped wall on outside after avoiding someone coming down the hill upside down and sideways.  Shocked

edit2: turns out it was Doni (who wasn't going any further anyway, tough luck)

Not a lot I could do on my roll bar, but twas very unfortunate to cause 3 other races to end thanks to one mistake. I was just getting my eye in with the Lotus too, and it bit hard.

Grats to Pelle and Gismo on their first UKGPL race. You are both very quick, definately Works drivers!

Managed to finish the race albeit 3 laps down.  Made loads of mistakes due to missed gears but I'm getting better with the RFB.

Grats to Robert on another win.  Iestyn was flying in the Ferrari, very close finish with Clive!

Grats Robert, Iestyn, Evil thumbup2...& Peter, grrr du vandt vores første møde  laugh Flot 4. plads.

Really fun to be back in GPL, but on lap 6 (?)...fire engine, McLaren Honda is not what it has been. Unfortunately entirely my own fault, pressed engine too hard out of T'last, in the battle to reach right up to Robert. Fun to be able to tease Evil little...as in GTL Tongue
Now when I use the Honda, I might use the same excuses...& we learned a lot  Grin
Thank you all for a fun race  thumbup1

Strangely I couldn't get on the server in Igor, but perfect when starting GPL (in GEM+) & write IP  Huh...& when I finally came in...I was in Eagle, DOH

The easiest solution for me to put the server up & saves to post all port addresses, type the server IP in the router in DMZ...unfortunately, we only managed once to get it Green in Vroc, but running smoothly with Orange.

Edit Forgot one thing: Anyone can get on the server in Vroc...except me, on my PC - which of course is on the same network - I should start GPL in Multiplayer where server pops up.

Grats to robert for the win! as expected you guys are very fast! and I'm pleased to have found what seems to be the perfect place for me to get some fun GPL races :-)

My race was pretty lonely, going from 4th to 6th after a couple of small spins and back to 4th after likewise incidents from my nearest opponents, though Greg T. kept me to the fire throughout the race which always makes it more fun :-)

Haha Pelle, det kan vi godt sige, men der er vist ingen tvivl om at jeg aldrig havde set din baghjul igen med det tempo du lagde for dagen ;-)

Good to see Pelle and Gismo joining the fun.

I confess that I was lazy and cheated a little for this race. It was my intention to use the Eagle when I saw this round in the series. Somewhere I have a setup that would allow me 1:23 laps on race fuel ( one of the best setups I think I ever had in GPL ) I used it in the last World Cup series and the car just seemed to be on rails.............................but I could not find it!!!

Real life got in the way over the weekend and I arrived at race time with zero practice. So I opted for a nice stable Brabham and saved my tokens  Wink. The problem I find with the Brabham is that it lacks top speed, but it is very driveable through the twisty bits.
Robert had his usual quick pace and set a great pole time. Once I had second place on the grid I was content and spent the rest of the time getting used to full fuel levels.

I had to watch Pelle at the start as I did not want him squeezing that Honda up the inside into T1!!  I was able to stick close to Robert for the first few laps without too much trouble and was happy to let him set the pace and pull us clear of the pack. Only Pelle appeared to be able to stay with us in the Honda. then I made a small mistake somewhere and only corrected the error by throwing the car sideways and igniting the rear tyres. That cost me a load of grip for the next few laps and dropped back from Robert and presnted Pelle with a chance to pass. I could not contest as my rear tyres were infra red!
A few gentle laps and temps dropped, so I eased back up to Pelle and his Honda.
many years of racing the Honda in the Mighty Waza team has taught me that you have to respect that engine. I could hear the revs that Pelle was using and I thought to myself..."hmmm a little risky revving that high so early in the race??!!"... and then he pulled off the track with a blown engine.
Again I pushed to close the gap to Robert up ahead, but it was a balancing act, maintaining the pace and protecting the tyres, and once again I overheated the rears and had to back off.

it was about this time that we all experienced the interweb gremlins and there was a lot of spikes and warping. Several times my wheel kicked so violently that I almost lost my grip.
All this time Iestyn was hunting me down in his Fezza, so that by the time the "web wobblies" had finished he was on my tail. The next 15 laps were all about defensive driving and trying to preserve my 2nd place.

I know from experience that there is only one passing place around Zandvoort as long as the car in front stays on the racing line at a good pace. So each lap I kept things neat and tidy (ish) trying to concentrate on getting off the final corner as quickly as poss and commanding the inside line down to T1. If Iestyn was going to pass me he would have to use all the extra speed in his Ferrari and outbrake me AND hold it around the outside line at T1.  Roll Eyes
Boy!!, he did try hard!!  Grin  at least 3 times he got alongside and almost held it on the grey stuff but ran wide and allowed me some breathing space, and time to cool my tyres, until he came charging up behind me again!! He was a persistent pest for every lap and just when I thought I had held onto 2nd spot he did the only thing he could and outdragged my Brabham from the final corner to the flag. Beating me by less than ).1 secs!!

Grats to Robert on taking that Cooper to the flag at tremendous place, although I think Iestyn and myself were slowing things down in our battle for 2nd. Grats to Iestyn on forcing that red thing through at the very last moment...great fun and good racing  Grin Grin Grin

Congrats Rob, Iestyn, and Clive! Nice job overcoming your difficulties Rob. The same with you Iestyn. Great defense Clive until the very end. All well deserved podium finishes. Smiley

I got a rather pleasing result. I never spun or hit anything. And even though I had difficulties with my connection, rhythm, and several cars to avoid, I managed to stay on the lead lap. I couldn't have asked for more on my first try in the BRM on pro damage.

It was a shame to see Dean go off after I moved over to let him pass. As fast as you caught me, I wanted to get out of the way as soon as possible. In hindsight, I probably should have made you wait until the long straight.

When Dean spun off in front of me, was the first time I saw some bad warping. As Peter was catching up with me after some spins, I was going to try to hold him behind me for at least a little while. But when he started warping behind me, I let him pass immediately, hoping we could avoid an accident. For about 3 laps it was like GPL would show a few frames that were solid gray and the FF would simultaneously spike to the level felt before I enter the track. That was so disconcerting it took me another few laps to get going well again. Alt + L yielded values twice of .64* Q and .160 L on the straight, close to the times the connection seemed worst. I wonder if the server would have held us all if there had been a few more cars? It appears I wasn't the only one suffering some anomalies.

You were doing well Pelle! You have to be very careful not to over rev the Honda when shifting. I saw you were shifting at 11k. That usually keeps the engine in one piece for me but I'm extremely careful to keep the engine under 11k at all times. It's good you made the race.

Nice job Peter. You could have left me well behind without all the spins. I could have tried a little harder to keep up with you but I'd have likely suffered the same demise as Pelle. You picked the right division although Rob and Iestyn's speed may make you think otherwise at times. Smiley

Commiserations to all who suffered an unfortunate fate. Sad

Thanks guys. See you at Albi.

That happened to me too when I first came online. I'm not sure how I fixed it.

Try, right clicking your GPLSecrets folder, click Properties, click Advanced, check the second box, "Allow files to be indexed". The entire GPL folder should be set the same way.
