Season 29 - Friday Sports Car Trophy - Round 16 - Imola

The next round of the Sports Car Trophy will take place at Imola.
The track was inaugurated in 1953, and it had no chicanes, so the run from Rivazza all the way to Tosa, through the pits and the eventually notorious Tamburello was totally flat out, as was the run from Acque Minerali all the way to Rivazza was just a long straight with a few small bends; and the circuit remained in this configuration until 1972. Long time home of the San Marino Grand Prix (and once of the Italian Grand Prix) the circuit is fast, bumpy and dangerous.

After the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994, the track was remodelled to reduce speeds but we use the original, high speed layout.

In S29 we will race F2 and Sports Car mods alternating.
This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills.  Wink

Handicapping:
Heavies - have allways free car choice.
Lights   -  each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice!
Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan  thumbup1

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.

Please check the Season 29 pages for details regarding rules and the Friday Trophy pages in particular.

Sport cars at it's best!
Fantastic racing, grats to all finishers!

I had the brake bug 2x and in the last lap my engine lost 8 cylinders after Aqua Minerale....

Mark grats to the new WR! If it was done without tow its way better than mine so far Wink
Shame I had no more MK2F in my garage  Grin

Hey awesome, car was a bit twitchy in qual, and I was actually focusing more on my race setup.  Good race for me, the 2F is a brilliantly quick thing - especially under braking.  Very difficult to find a way to pass Axel after I got jumped at the start, and sorry for the bump at Tosa where I was a bit clumsy.  But managed to catch back up again and then just committed to spending some time in behind the Ferrari.  Finally got a great run through Tamburello and could get the right position for braking into Tosa.  Fun stuff.

A great race for me despite the result.
1st time in the mkI, no spins or offs. Sadly got lapped at the end but I guess that was inevitable driving one of the slower cars.
Grats finishers.

Grats to Mark on a runaway victory!  And a new WR in the Chaparral 2D for Imola, too?  Well done.  When you caught me up, there was no way I was going mess with you.

Bad luck on that tank-slapper, Axel.  Six more inches of pavement and you'd have saved it.  Nice charge back.  Shame on the motor going South.  I lost one in Q as well.  Odd.

After my appalling run in the F2's here last week, this was just the tonic I needed.  I hardly put a foot wrong over the 30 laps and my consistency was something to shoot for in an on-going basis.  Laps 08-20 were all in the 37's and...with one exception..., Laps 21-30 in the 36's.

A fine drive by Greg in the lowly 4.7-litre GT40 to qualify very well and stay on the lead lap.  Good show.

It was as you say, Axel...  Sports cars at its best!
