Season 29 Joe Shaw Memorial – Round 10 – Salzburgring

This will be the race of the Joe Shaw Memorial series 2016. Robert is already champion but there is still a race to be contested.

The series will be run over a 10 race format with a warm up event in 65 cars on Tuesday, followed by a Championship race in original 67 cars on Sunday evening.

This Sunday it’s the 67 cars at the Salzburgring. A relatively short, high-speed track with a couple of rather challenging corners that caught people out in the 65 race.

This race is for championship points, with period scoring; 9 points for a win, 6 for second, 4 for third, then 3, 2 & 1.

We will be running Pro damage settings with the 67 car set. In a slight change of rules there is no chassis handicap but a gentleman’s agreement that the fastest drivers should take a slower car.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 24-04-16
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Salzburgring76

60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Realistic
Qualifying time = 30 minutes

Gentlemen’s rules apply, although reported incidents will be moderated.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Talking with an insistent Mrs. and driving flat out doesn't mix. Missed my braking point for the hairpin and crashed  Undecided.

Best of luck to those still running and congrats to Rob for winning the trophy in convincing style  Smiley. Once again, a brilliant memorial series for Joe. Thanks all for the great racing.

Nasty spin about lap 20 which made a convenient gap for just about the whole field to lap me. Was settling back into a rhythm when the engine went bang.
Been a fun series but 1 finish in 5 races isn't a great result.

A little bit of an anti climax to get a screen freeze in the last race of the series, and just when I was about to turn up the boost and cruise into the lead from my safe 7th place.!!  Roll Eyes Funny, but I always get a disco just when I am about to make my move....................

Grats to all who finished and to the podiums guys.

Big Grats to Robert on winning the trophy (yet again!!!)

Fun race, after a great quali. Bogged down in 2nd gear after the start, and Axel and Jonny proved too fast. Made a few little mistakes which cost me trackposition to Jani, who I followed for most of the race...also cars behind were faster and chasing me down, mostly Dean...had to push hard to hold him off before he made a mistake...pushed harder towards the end driving right through my melting LF tire, and Jani went off giving me P2 Wink

Grats Axel, and Jani. Special mention to Dave Rainier who was very competitive tonight, well done! Smiley Tough luck non-finishers...

The Fifth Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy was full of action and great racing from my point of view. Thanks all for contributing, making this a worthy tribute!

From a personal POV happy to win it a third time, and the last three points races in the BRM were pretty good and action packed, as were the the 65 races in the BT7. Also many different winners of the races! Smiley

Special thanks to Billy and Axel for organizing!

I had fun qualifying, but being 3 seconds down in a Lotus to BRM, well I would have been a liability to the talented racers, so I ducked out.

Ronnie,
The series was open to all drivers. The bonus is that you get to drive the faster cars & it won't cost you a single token. Providing you are observant if the faster cars are lapping you there's no reason you shouldn't be on track.
There are a couple of 1966 warm up races before Season 30 starts where the fast drivers will be in the 2L cars & the Privateers / Ams can use the 3L cars. Would be good if a few of the Privateers / Ams can join in.

Congrats Axel, Rob, and Jani! and congrats to Rob for the championship!

Well, I made it through one turn.

I apologize Marco. I didn't think fast enough or have enough forethought. Dave got a lousy start and boxed Dean in behind him. I wasn't really looking to pass, but I didn't know where else to go. I didn't realize who was in front of me until it was too late. I know Marco often likes to brake much earlier than me. Even though I could have made the turn I should have known to brake sooner than I did. It's a shame I sent Marco to the back of the field. For screwing up like I did, I got what I deserved. I'm glad Dave and Dean were able to squeak by me.

Take care guys.

A great event for me on a track I like to drive in any mod. We used to have our Christmas Cup here in the Hungarian league, so it was a bit nostalgic yesterday Smiley

Qual was superb with a new pb and P5. Start went well, grabbed and hold P4, then followed Rob closely and once I got a chance passed him for third. With Axel and Joao in the distance my aim was to keep my podium place. At some parts of the track Rob was faster but the BRM was a real handicap, so my position looked safe. Midrace saw Joao dropping behind us (then later quitting), so it was about 2nd position when I went off in T1 (T2?)... Rob and Dave passed me, and my last laps was about taking back my podium. We passed each other a few times, then in the penultimate lap I took 2nd and kept it till the finish line.

Congrats to Axel and Rob! Well done finishers! Thanks all for the race.

Thanks Billy, but I hadn't done much practise on the track.  Also, for those who have never experienced it, being at a pace where you are constantly getting lapped is actually hard work.  It's impossible to get into a rhythm, and you're more likely to make mistakes because you are keeping one eye on your mirrors all the time.

I will certainly look out for the 66 races.  Smiley

Hope I didn't contribute to your decision Ronnie...doesn't matter how fast you are, as long you can be safe Wink However, I can understand it's not much fun to enter a race knowing you will run a lonely race at the back...

Stay tuned Ronnie, Season 30 will start in a month, but we will have a summerbreak as well...

Not at all, mate.  Smiley

Does anyone have any 66 setups?  I've tried racing the 66 Cooper with 67 setups, but it doesn't really work.

At GPL Trackbase you might find some 66 setups...haven't driven 66s that much, and only a few cars...also most don't like my setups anyway...
