Championship standings HERE

Grid/server capacity: 22

Track: Darlington Download this

Cars allowed: Shelby Mustang Boss 302 Download this

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (70 laps, 1 lap rolling, 69 laps racing)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: ROLLING START
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: 3x

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Rolling start procedure will be implemented for this race. See below for details.

1) When qualifying ends drivers will join the grid as usual, before the timer countdown ends.

2) At the green light the pole position driver (lead driver) will be responsible for moving off with limiter ON.

3) The remaining drivers will follow the driver in front of them forming a 2x2 formation.

4) The lead driver will maintain limiter speed (limiter may be switched off) until the start line is reached. Having crossed the start line the lead car will begin race speed.

7) Following drivers may not exceed limiter speed (lead drivers speed) or attempt any overtaking until the start line is crossed.

I've got 34 laps out of a set so far but that it with considerable restraint and no laps under 35s. Get into the 33s area and as Geoffers says you will be on the RF rim in half a dozen laps.. The Capri's we used at Istanbul are a real blast around here though. Can I take 1 of those, pretty please.....

Feeling better today so did a little testing with the Boss this PM.  If you guys haven't raced oval before it is a learning experience for sure.  Here is a general oval racing set-up guide
http://www.racelinecentral.com/RacingSetupGuide.html     First of all you really need the advanced garage mod that Tony pushed forward last year as in oval racing your car is not set up symetrical at all.  If you look at a NASCAR racer you will scratch your head and say, what a cobbled up POS.  The front camber is all goofy looking, one wheel leaning one way and one the other.  All different values of spring and tire pressures  different at each corner.
Anyway as I said I did some testing and adjusted camber, springs and tire pressures and found we will be OK.  Ran a full tank and it will make 25 laps almost 26 with my PLR setup for 3X fuel.  Gassed up and didn't change tires and made it till lap 39 when the right front blew.  The first 25 laps were sub 34 second laps so didn't baby them.  Then after the fuel stop, it was hard to stay below 34 seconds by me.  So it looks like to me new tires both pit stops.  Will do some more testing maybe we could do fronts all the time and just change rears once.  Cant just do right sides as the big boys do.....bummer!  Hope this helps some of you guys out.  Should be fun and very different, thanks to Tony..............

No, thanks to you Bob. I was hoping you would post soon. Could you share your setup? It will certainly help those of us who do not have a clue about short oval racing. Maybe if you want, email it to me and I'll post a link.
It has been suggested to me, by one of my biggest correspondents, that a rolling start should be used here. I'm inclined to agree as IIRC you Yanks love a two by two rolling start. Is this correct?

Also can you help me out as to any relevant pit lane entering/leaving etiquette at ovals. Should you blend in on the straight or join on bends as the AI do?

This is going to be a tyre management race. Driving flat out I blew the front right tyre after 6 laps!

 scared scared scared

With regards to only changing the front tyres; I have found in earlier GTL pitstop tests, that there's virtually no time saved by only changing one axle, so might as well swap both ends, if you're going for a tyre change.

Disclaimer: Above info may be incorrect, so do your own timings if you want to be sure  Wink

So, this will be an Oval track??? It never occurred to me that Tony would be so devious as to sneak something like that into the mix!! lol

It's learning one thing after another with this GTL racing  blink blink
My poor single working brain cell is beginning to feel that there might be a conspiracy afoot to overload it with all these new experiences. eek w00t w00t blink

Am I right in thinking GTL can't do yellow flag caution laps behind the pace car.....?  Or does it  (more to worry about, Clive!  surrender ) Should be interesting either way.

Erm..........no ruddy idea. But we can do a lap with limiters on which will suffice

IMPORTANT

We will implement a rolling start for this race. See race annoumcement for details.

That awfully nice Old Geezer has kindly left his setup online. It's called Bob--Bos302-s-Darl. Help yourselves, it's free.

I have been informed that the pitlane limiter off point is some way beyond the pit lane end lights. I will try to find out when it is safe to turn of the limiter after pitting but if others can try too that will surely be a great help.

Tested a little yesterday; temp of RF was over 160ºC at times  scared

Thanks Bob for the setup. Looked symmetrical to me, apart from the tyre pressures. Is that correct ?

In an earth shattering break from my usual routine, I actually took a quick peek at this infernal oval thing last night after my race at No-Grip.
I did download Bob's setup as I had no clue about oval racing and was surprised to post 1:33 on the first flying lap. But then, thinking about that I am guessing that with only 2 corners and identical cars, laptimes should be pretty similar across the grid with only tenths of a second gaps.
I only spent about 15 minutes playing around, but it seems that the harder I tried the slower I went Huh............must be a message there somewhere?  Roll Eyes

I certainly agree about those right side temps. "Glow in the dark" tyres appeared to have been fitted to my car!! Must see if I can find a way to protect them, if I can find the time to do multiple laps and testing  Undecided
I could get paranoid about Tony's car and track selections for this year, as a lot of them feel way out of my comfort zone. helpsmilie

If your flying laps are 1:33, you'd better prepare to be lapped a couple of times - each lap..  lol  (Sorry, couldn't resist  Grin)
