Championship standings HERE

Grid/server capacity: 22

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (27 laps: 1 lap rolling, 26 laps racing)

Track: Istanbul Download this

Cars allowed: Ford Capri Mk3 Turbo Download this

Only the following cars are to be selected. CLASS A DIV 1 '81, CLASS B DIV 2 '81, DIV 2 '80 and DIV 2 '79.

Time of Day Setting: 06:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: x2
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Rolling start procedure will be implemented for this race. See below for details.

1) When qualifying ends drivers will join the grid as usual, before the timer countdown ends.

2) At the green light the pole position driver (lead driver) will be responsible for moving off at a slow pace.

3) The remaining drivers will follow the driver in front of them forming a single line formation.

4) The lead driver will increase speed as soon as it is safe to do so. The following drivers will match the speed of the car in front of them, whilst keeping a safe distance between them.

5) The lead driver will maintain slow/average speed for the duration of the lap until approaching the final corner when he will engage the speed limiter.

6) The lead driver will maintain limiter speed (limiter may be switched off) until the start line is reached. Having crossed the start line the lead car will begin race speed.

7) Following drivers may not exceed limiter speed (lead drivers speed) or attempt any overtaking until the start line is crossed.

you cannot be serious!!! scared ninja ninja

Just watched that video and the very thought of driving these beasts has required that I double my medication!!! For me, this looks like my worst nightmare.

Slick tyres and loads of grip, enormous amounts of power and far too fast. The human brain is not meant to work that quickly!, and how am I meant to take a drink between corners at that speed?Huh

Cuts will be on for this so be careful when you go beyond the track limits. If you should go exploring be aware that cuts can be avoided if your re-entry speed is much reduced.

This sounds promising..  Grin

Tony: Are those 'Moby Dick' Porsches seen in the video available for GTL ? - if so, might be interesting giving them a run in a future series  Wink (The one in front of the Capri, damn that thing moves..  drool)

There are many, many Porkers for GTL. Yep we could do a series with them in the future.

We are not amused  no scared

I watched the video and all I can say is, that I had no idea that the winged monster in front was a Porsche...thought that it was another Capri...when you get to my age all these cars look the same  Roll Eyes

Although I am not expecting to be competitive at the sharp end in these alienmobiles, I guess it should still be fun. For me, it is the necessity to keep everything so precise and neat through the corners to exploit the grip and power.
My style is more "chuck it at a point somewhere near the apex and hope that my reflexes are quick enough to catch the slide and emerge out of the other side with the gas nailed".

You're worrying prematurely Clive  Smiley

I tried the two weakest cars yesterday (Div 2 '79 & '80), and they're absolute pussycats to drive. Just point them where you want to go and they do so, without any fuss or drama. Did 10+ laps in each and spun ONE time. You have to be deliberatedly stupid or make a suicide setup to unstick these  Smiley   Div 1 car may be a different matter, but these two shouldn't be a problem.  Biggest worry is the brutal tyre wear conditions Tony have specified Shocked  #1 priority probably will be to preserve your tyres.

Track is very nice and seemingly perfect for these cars - great choice Tony!  thumbup1

Thanks for your warm encouragement Erling.  Cheesy

But as your post has highlighted, tyres are going to be the BIG issue and being smooth and consistent is what is required. Something that you do very naturally, but I do not.  Undecided

I will probably not get a chance to try these cars before the weekend, but I will report back with my adventures in the Capri.

Just tried the Div 1 car, brilliant fun

You have to be a little careful in 1st & 2nd gears but after that it just goes where you point it, has loads of grip. Only thing is they are very tricky to get off the line, once the turbo pressure goes there is little power.

Those Porsches Erling mentioned, the 935s, they are much harder to drive than these Capris. Absolutely no power at all at low revs, then the whole lot comes in with a bang & with only 4 gears it is sometimes difficult to keep it in the power band.  eek

I can confirm this  Smiley - starting seems to be a razor sharp line between out-of-control wheelspin or total bog down.  With a little bit of tyre wear, it will do power slides in 3rd, so caution recommended  Shocked   Looking after the tyres will be tricky - off boost there's practically no power, and on boost, tyre preservation doesn't seem its highest priority...  Wink

Any laptimes Geoff ?  whistling

Erling
