Took the Honda after more than 2 seasons of BT7 and T77, also after my disco last time out. Also this track isn't my best. Enough with the excuses  Roll Eyes

Couldn't lose Axel who had great straight line speed, he lead for a while, but blew up late race sadly. He would have had a great chance to win, well done, bad luck. Wink Thanks all for racing and organizing! Smiley

The start was clean and sensible. A couple of laps in there was an incident down towards the hairpin and I overcompensated on the brakes, throwing me into a spin. Then side by side through the hairpin with Doni. Well done sir! Soon after my sound started to fade. By the time Dean and Roo reeled me in I had virtually nothing. I always use headphones and recently I have been using wireless ones. Well the batteries died. It was very awkward trying to change over to speakers and find some volume and it took a number of laps fiddling with it on the straight. I'm afraid I wasn't up for a fight for position for quite a while. How many times did you pass me Dean??
Rouen is always enjoyable. Lots of close and fast racing through the field. Great dice for the podium positions. Grats Robert.

Apart from getting caught up in the 2nd lap incident & nerfing Iestyn later on (sorry again) my race was ok. Having lost a lot of ground on lap2 it was a question of picking up places as they presented themselves. Ronnie's BT7 was hard to pass & Dean's ferrari was hard to shake.

Thanks admins, grats podium Smiley

First off, apologies to Bob, it seems that I stuck it into Neutral at the hairpin and thus became a sitting duck for being rear-ended on exit. All this after making it through the previous lap melee, exiting side by side and being in a position to try and catch Rob & Axel!

The story of my race was make a pass, make a mistake.. this happened twice with Doni and Clive (The new Bonnie and Clyde Grin?!)! I made it a double both times, before throwing it off the road with nothing left to chase in front! So, it really should have been a 2nd place, but I was too inconsistent with the braking after the back straight, with the setup a leftover from the G25.

Third time around, I thought to try and hold off Doni until he closed in on Clive and try another double pass, but after possibly distracting Roo by swinging too wide in the twisty bits was rear-ended. Saw it coming and tried to brake a bit less, but still lost control facing the haybale.

Dean gave me a good run for my money after that, but braked too late after the back straight, and I compounded any hope of catching back up again with a final mistake. Tried to best Rob's time in the last few laps, only to see that Roo had the fastest lap post-race Smiley.

Thanks Tris for pointing this out. I also noticed that two members of the UKGPL admin team chose to use a different chassis for this race  Huh

Good luck to you both but have the rules changed for this season  Roll Eyes

Sorry Tristan (and other drivers) if it was not clear.

handicapping is defined at the annoucement post (on top of the topic) :
- Still free chassis choice for this 2nd race.

It is not according to what is indicated in the Trophy pages.
we have to correct it.
The reason is we thought, before the start of the season, we could have only one grid for mod65.

Another boffo race and it's not lost on me that for the 2nd consecutive race, Hondas place 1-2.  Smiley

Grats on a fine win, Robert.  The usual stellar and competent job.  Smiley

Poor Cookie!  Robbed!  Sad

Fine drive to P3, Clive!  I did what I could to spoil that but came up short.  Again.  I need to talk to the script writers.

Starting P10, I would have hardly thought that I'd wring a podium out of this but the fates were unkind to many starting ahead of me.  It was certainly nice to get through the New World hairpin on Lap01 without incident but, of course, that all changed on Lap02.  High drama as Tris shunted Bob, Roo got sidetracked and Andrew spun to miss the scrum.  I thought I'd clear the mess til at the last split-second for turning into the hairpin, I caught sight of the LF wheel of Andrew's BT11.  Made a quick course adjustment to accommodate the inner lane and tip-toed round without incident.  PHEW!  Close call for both of us!  Smiley

Soon, more contact down in the hairpin had Iestyn facing the wrong way and I gained another position.  I ultimately hooked up with Clive and a resurgent Iestyn was soon making a threesome.  I managed a slipstream of Clive on Lap06 to jump into P3.  On the next tour, Clive and Iestyn were pasted to my tail going up the hill to Gresil.  Exiting this flatout sweeper, I lost sight of Iestyn as he carved hard right.  Clive's white Honda was BIG in my mirrors but there was no sign of the Ferrari.  Only as we approached the braking zone for Scierie did I hear something a little more than I might normally.  'That's another Ferrari 12 wailing off my right shoulder.'  As I went for the brakes with Clive directly behind, I was just about to turn in when I caught sight of Iestyn's red car up on my right.  PHEW!  Glad I made space for him.  Wicked man, Iestyn!  Smiley

The dueling continued for lap after lap but as Iestyn notes above, a few offs cost him time and gifted Clive and I a place.  With around six laps to run, it was becoming apparent that Roo was going to catch Clive and I.  Consistently carving into his deficit, I expected the last couple of laps to be frantic with the Lotus more than capable of spoiling my day.  Only a slight off in T1 in a late lap cost Roo the time he needed to close in for the kill.  So...  It was deja vu all over again with a repeat of Sunday's GP66 Historic action with Clive staving off my assaults over the last lap.  I worked hard to get into position for a slipstream pass on the back straight on the last lap.  Close but...

Notables...  Andrew with a good drive to P7.  Ray handcuffed in the BT7 but with a good drive regardless.  Dean a splendid effort in qualifying to register a P2 start but...  Huh  Whatever happened to have him start at the back?  He could have figured prominently in the final results if not for a few offs.

Grats to Robert who could be a new recruit if Mrs Fujikawa ever returns from her mountain retreat to resurrect the WAZA RACING TEAM. Hard luck to Axel who was flying too.

This is becoming a familiar pattern Doni!!! You and me dicing for the whole race........absolutely great stuff.

I was hoping to sneak a higher grid spot because Lap 1 at the hairpin can cause huge problems and those further back in the field usually just have to wait until the carnage clears. But, lo and behold, we all sailed through in line astern like true professionals on that opening lap.

Robert and Cookie were off into the sunset, and I was tagging along behind the chasing pack with a quick Andrew in his BT11 back in 7th place. I will claim that I deliberately left a "safety margin" between my car and Andy's on lap 2 ( the truth is that I made a Horlicks of turns 1 & 2!)  but that played to my advantage approaching Nouveau Monde when I saw 2 airborne cars and was able to get the brakes on early. Andy was just a little too close and had to brake hard on the left hander before the hairpin and it all went very sideways for him. There was no chance of stopping my car, so I aimed for the gaps and hoped that I did not get collected by a rebounding car.
I emerged from a total scrap fest totally unscathed and tried to make the most of my gains by giving the poor little Honda a good thrashing up the hill. The next few laps I watched prib as Doni and Iestyn both eased closer and closer with the extra power of their Ferraris and once into my slipstream I was a dead duck. So, I concentrated on allowing their pass to be as smooth as possible so that I did not miss the chance to drop back into their slipstream and get pulled along.
I was hoping that they were evenly matched for pace and that the 3 of us would stay in close contact, but Iestyn had other ideas and began to open a gap ahead of Doni. Something that I found frustrating, but I could not see a clear passing opportunity on Doni to go after Iestyn.
The big problem with the 65 Honda is that it goes well and has the spare revs in the slipstream to gain huge amounts of speed, but once you pull out to make a pass it is like someone hoists a sail and all that extra momentum vanishes!! I tried one such move on Doni and although I got alongside, he was able to pull away again......oooh! that is just soooo annoying. taz
Then Iestyn did the honourable thing and threw his car into the scenery just to keep things interesting, allowing Doni and myself to pass and continue our battle. I was content to sit behind Doni and let his engine do all the heavy work for a few laps, but then Iestyn was back again and passed us both. Surely he was now going to take the 3rd spot that Doni and I were arguing over? But again being the fine fellow that he is he slid wide and took a tea break. thumbup1
I did a lot of thinking as I followed Doni and the laps ticked down. I reasoned that there was no chance of a last lap slipstream and overtake down the S/F line, he was just too quick there. The tow up the back straight was great but as I say it did not give me enough momentum to sweep past. Then I glanced at prib, expecting to see Iestyn coming back, and was alarmed to see that Roo in his Lotus was much closer to our little battle than I felt comfortable with. I did not want to be caught in a 3 way fight on the last lap, so I decided to use the secret rice wine injectors and the Waza braking parachute and go for a pass at the end of the straight.
I needed to time my run so that I did not have to pull out of the slipstream too soon, so I set the move up over the next lap and allowed the gap to grow just slightly before closing my eyes and going for the banzai move.
Once ahead I knew that I needed at least a 50 mtr lead before the straight, to defend against the slipstream, and was at 100% down the hill into Nouveau Monde. The next few laps were risky in terms of engine health and survival as I tried to squeeze out a safe margin. Roo was closing on Doni and I was hoping that they would hold each other up and allow me to escape.
It all worked well until I made a complete hash of my braking and Doni was back on my tail with 3 laps to go!! I was seriously worried that he would use his fezza  power and get me on the S/F line, so on the last lap I did not upshift to 6th as we approached the flag but stayed in 5th and took the revs into the silly zone, just waiting for the engine to explode.........but it all held together.

An absolute blast of a race and the laps just flew past as every one was "on the edge". Thanks to Doni and Iestyn and Roo for some great racing.

I thought I could take a different chassis this season, and again having solely run the BT7 and T77 last seasons and Rouen being a weaker track I took the Honda. Thought about BT7 but I was so much slower in it...but I guess I'm condemned at UKGPL to take either the BT7 or T77...

As David Rainier says, it's confusion/a misunderstanding, but Tris and Ray have a point...

Thanks guys, well done Clive and Doni, old guys rule!  Cool

Great report, Clive!  Smiley

Just a couple of post-scripts...

My vision was good up to two laps to go when a slight fogging manifested itself.  Several rapid blinks replenished my eyeball fluids and I was OK for the balance and run to the flag.  My new eye meds do appear to be working.  Smiley

And Iestyn...  Bonnie & Clyde = Doni & Clive?  Priceless!   laugh

I did a bit of praccy beforehand because I've hardly even driven 65s here and was pleased to get into the 2 04s fairly quickly.  I stuck with the Honda because I thought it was a 'fair' choice for my abilities...not sure!

I struggled early on in qual but managed to string a couple of clean laps together at the death, to start 3rd, which became 2nd with Dean missing the start, which was then 3rd again by the time I got to the 1st corner.  I was surprised by the fast flag fall as I was finishing my tea and cake!

I wasn't too brisk on the first lap and consequently had Tris breathing down my neck and as we all know this got too close into the hairpin.  I've taken a look at the rpy and see that Tris attempts a move round the outside, either that or he was just trying to avoid me.  As I changed down the car slewed violently sideways...as can happen at this spot and we came together.  This ended Tris' race but my car seemed fine, even after a few other good whacks as cars piled in...or so I thought.

Iestyn and I exited the hairpin together and I edged in-front, only for him to slip past on the back straight.  I settled in behind him, considering a pass over the start/finish but then easing back.  As we approached the hairpin I closed and was then surprised when he almost stopped on the apex, I now know the reason why, but I couldn't avoid punting him off.  I carried on with a guilty conscience with Clive close behind, but only for a few corners as I half spun and let the entire field by.  Recovering, I carried on for a few more laps until my engine let go. Not sure if this was partly due all the action on L2, I was trying to keep the revs to a reasonable level, albeit a bit higher than in Stardust (after reviewing Clive's driving!).  The temps go red pretty easily in the Honda, even if limiting to 11,5.  This time I was trying to keep below 12, perhaps that's too much of a thrashing.

Thanks for the racing, I'm enjoying the exploitability of the 65s, esp when compared to the 67s.
