Moderator's Report

Racing around the Glen, this time it\'s Gareth Hall taking the honours in the Lotus 49, complemented with Pole & fastest lap. Dave Ranier raced equaled his best result this season with 2nd place while Bastian Grupp recovered from an engine mishap to the last step of the podium.

There were no reported incidents once again this race, but unfortunately one racer fell foul of the division rules this race. Detailed below:

Server replay time: 0h08m00s

On lap 6 Fulvio Policardi looses the back end of his Brabham approaching the Loop and promptly rolls the car. A shift-r is needed to get going again, but sadly for Fulvio this was already his second shift-r which isn\\\'t permitted by this division\\\'s rules.

To quote the UKGPL penalty guidelines, \\\"In such cases, should a driver exceed the number of allowed shift-Rs, they are retired at the point of offence (i.e. their finish time in the results will be amended to the time they exceeded their shift-R limit).\\\"

In this case, Fulvio took his 2nd shift R on lap 6, approximately 8 minutes into the race which would be considered the point at which he retired. The results have been modified to account for this.

Season 31 Privateers Trophy - Round 09 - Watkins Glen

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 season, the UKGPL season will take place on 10 of the 11 original circuits. This round we cross the Atlantic to the United States. Watkins Glen International (nicknamed "The Glen") is an automobile race track located in Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980), but the site has been home to road racing of nearly every class, including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association and the IndyCar Series.

The circuit is known as the Mecca of North American road racing and is a very popular venue among fans and drivers. The facility is currently owned by International Speedway Corporation.

Note the Privateers division is run on Intermediate damage settings. Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Race List = iGOR

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

This Season we don't have a Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Was all going so well.

Sitting in 4th equal distance behind Rainier and in front of Cookie when had a family issue. Was distracted, missed my braking point and went off at the loop. Urgent enough for me to have to end the race.

I was almost happy for the engine but near the  finish a black smoke from my exaust forced me to give the 6th place to Fulvio.

2nd place for me.
Gareth was in another planet.
But this is a very interesting result for me as I finished in front of Bastian and Fulvio + Jeep and Andy are scoring no point !

Another bad performance from me.  I wasn't too bad for outright speed but I made a lot of silly mistakes (I must have spun about 10 times).  I can't complain though, no practice and no setup so all my fault.

Grats to the podium.  Championship is wide open, the last round will be fun!

Hallelujah!  It has thus mercifully come to pass on this 11th day of the month of June in the agonizing year of Anno Domini 2017 that I finally managed to complete a race that wasn't an embarrassment to myself or to the league.  Yeah, I was lapped a couple of times by yet another alien but I never came close to going off the track and for that alone I raise the cup of good cheer.  And yeah, that cup is full of cheap wine, but on such a remarkable occasion, one takes what one can get.  Now that I think about it, that could be my motto for my rookie season in the UKGPL privateer league.  Smiley

Full disclosure: This comes from my team leader in the oAo league. He likes to keep me happy, thinking positively, and finishing races. That brings more coins to our team's treasury so that he can maintain a stable of fast cars, the jewel of which is a Lotus (of which he is inordinately fond). I wouldn't know what to do with a Lotus even if you presented one to me on a plate.

A good Race, but Engine blew up with 10 to go,
so i had to give second place to Dave Rainer.

Well Done Gareth and Dave and all other finishers.

I'm sorry for my spin at lap 1 in the esses that collected Axel and another car plus some hairy moments for almost all the car behind me.
I tried a clean start behind Gareth but before the second esse I had to lift too much and went a bit wide, trying to keep the car straight my backend lost traction and became a snake ending on the rail an spinning. One car hit me and I was launched over the fences. I was so angry with myself that I forgot to reset and went around the track for a hole to rejoin tarmac without success, so when I had to reset I was almost lapped from Gareth and had still to pit. After my stop&go I was already lapped from the leading Group, but not already satisfied I went wide at loop crashing again with another reset and stop&go.
At that point I was lapped from all the pack. Eventually  I put my head in the right place and slowly I tried to unlap myself from almost all and catched a lucky 6th place for other misfortune.
I could have had a nice race in second place and some good points in the bag, but now it's all to play at last race for the season.

Sorry I missed this, but I was between Croft and Cadwell Park.
Fulvio - only one reset allowed in this series. It looks like this was your worst race and would be one of the two dropped scores anyway.
Looking at the totals with two dropped scores before Mexico, it looks very tight.

John     272
DaveR   264
Fulvio   263
Bastian 261

John can afford to lose a place or two, it's a straight fight between David, Bastian and Fulvio. Whoever finishes higher in the Mexico race will finish higher in the championship unless they all finish far outside the podium.

Tokenwise, Fulvio can take up to Brabham, Bastian Ferrari, John and Dave Eagle.

Mod report published. Bad luck with the shift-r's Fulvio. As Andy says, if you manage to make it to the Mexico race, this result will get deleted regardless  Smiley.

I really don't get that.

Wouldn't Retired on Lap 6 mean behind Phil on Position 10 ?

I did my second reset at 6th lap, way before Jeep retired. So a lot of effort to finish the race for nothing, but also a lot of fun. :-)
