Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 90s

On lap one, Syd Drake misses his braking point and runs into the back of Brian Kerr, spinning him out. Syd wasn't attemting a passing move, he simply made a mistake and entered the corner too fast to take it cleanly. Drivers are expected to show extra caution on the first lap.

Server replay time: 2240s

Assassino is chasing Mark Jonzo for the final podium spot late in the race. He gets right on his bumper, and pulls to the inside before a right-hander. He doesn't get any overlap under braking, and Mark turns in for the corner. Assassino tries to force his car into a very small gap on the inside. He gets on the power earlier, and gives Mark a nudge, spinning him around. Assassino then waits for Mark to rejoin, accepting responsibility for the contact.

Assassino should have been more cautious here. I'm reducing this to a zero place penalty as he waited for Mark.

Server replay time: 2410s

Syd Drake is chasing down Phil Gilliland's mini late in the race, when he comes around to lap Adam Parle. He tries to out-brake him, but only gets a small amount of overlap. Adam turns in and there is contact.

Syd was a bit over-ambitious here, he wasn't fully alongside before turn-in and wasn't fully under control of the car, locking up badly. However, he comes close to making the move work, so I'm reducing this one to a warning. I also feel Adam could have been a bit more aware of a possible move, although he was entitled to take the racing line.

All members welcome.

Practice: 20:15 (10 mins)
Qualifying: 20:25 (25 mins)
Race: 20:50 (39 laps = ~40 mins)

Track: Crystal Palace v1.2 (download here)
Cars allowed: Alfa Romeo, Lotus Cortina, Mini Cooper, Ford Mustang
Time of Day Setting: 20:00 (see note 5)
Start: STANDING

Server: UKGTL Classics Cup
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
(4) The season will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.4 which will need to be installed prior to racing; please get it from the downloads page.
(5) Frame rates - Please test out your frame rate in night conditions before hand. You will be required to run with lights on. Advice on increasing frame rates with headlights on is to reduce Headlight Effects in graphics options to Low and turn down the Shadows setting (in that order of preference for highest FPS increase). If you're frame rate is too low your car will be laggy and cause problems. Please ensure you have a good frame rate before joining.

GT Legends FPS increase tips:
If you haven't already done so these .plr file tweaks will give you a big performance boost in GTL...

Hi

Even with all of the tweaks suggested and running DX 7 my 64bit Athlon 3500 with 2gig ram and 256meg G-force PCI express card and a 10meg broadband cable connection will only give frame rates of 20-30. Off the line with 16 other cars offline it drops to 12. The start will be chaos! In DX 8 and DX 9 it is just unplayable. And that is with every graphic setting set at minimum and absolutely nothing running in the background.

My old Athlon 2.2 with a 512 saphire AGP card and 2gig ram wont run at anything above 6FPS.

Much as it would be nice to race at night I think a few people will just not have the equiptment for it and much of the outcome will be decided by the quality of a drivers computer and his fps rather than his driving skills.

Would we not be better off doing these night races during pre season and keeping the league races to daylight so that everybody can take part even if their computer spec is a bit lower? Just a suggestion.

Having said all that I will be there, racing for my new team, Gentleman Racers. Thanks for the invite Alex. Looking forward to racing with you.

What card do you have? For GTL this is probably the most important item.

The standard card with the PC G-force 6150 Le. Not the best but can't afford to upgrade it at the moment. It is fine for everyting except lighting effects. In daylight runs 70fps at Crystal Palace.

Hi Guys, Can someone tell me, is it possible to setup a quick race at Crystal Palace for 39 laps? It seems to only allow me 20 laps at the moment. Also I cannot get a starting grid of 24 cars.
Cheers

Should be a fun race! Nice short track with some alternative lines through the bends so should encourage some daring passing (not as 'daring' as the BTCC i've just been watching tho I hope! - those driving standards are pretty poor I think!).

 - did a few laps last night. Got a 59.8 best but usually 1 min dead or 1:00.1

Still got to change the car setup a bit to settle it down but I got it drifting nicely in that really fast entry right hander that tightens!! Great fun Cheesy

There's something wrong there, Peter, those are crazy frame rates.  I have a 2.0GHz Athlon, Radeon 9600 Pro (absolutely ancient card  Cheesy) and 1Gig of DDR333 RAM and I get 40-45 fps night time racing at Crystal Palace with DX7, most settings on low.  At startline I get 30fps, drops to 20 when the 19 AI in front get moving and some effects are rendered.  I may increase the headlight effects from low to medium (very weird when other cars aren't lit up) and see what effect that has.  My system is so-low end its almost ridiculous, but it looks absolutely fine for racing at night - your system should completely murder mine, so something must be wrong, but I'm not sure where to start.... Huh

Tried the Cortina and the Mustang, running consistent 1:01.0s so far, Bara will be far ahead!!!

We are all going to have to be so careful at the start not to knock our headlights out  Grin

You can easily drive this circuit without headlights. As I manage to prove every practise lap after I smash into something solid.

You'd probably stop smashing into things if you had working lights. Wink laugh laugh laugh

Make sure all your drivers are updated for the vid card, also sounds like there may be some processing problems there. Maybe try running it at DX9? I have an Athalon 64bit 3000 (2.0GhZ) with 1.5Gig RAM, and an NvIdia 7800 GT 256meg card. I am getting about 50 fps on this track at night with 24 cars on the track, haven't gotten a hint of slowdown yet. My graphics settings are at medium-high at DX9.

I did some testing and I'll get a 30-40 fps with all options on but I must admit that last year I finally was able to buy a system which was (then) in the higher classes. I sympathise with MadMac because until recently I was _always_ finetuning my system to get some recent performance.

MadMac, did you turn off all unnecessary track objects (Audience, Trees). Did you try running it in a lower resolution? And turn of the anti-aliasing stuff?

Hope this helps..  Undecided
