Moderator's Report

Summary

Another emphatic win for Hristo in the Brabham with Ken Murray taking a well deserved second place in the Lotus. Kruger completed the podium in his Cooper.

Despite the long pit stop afforded to the Lotus, Ken has shown it is possible to beat the slower chassis and secure valuable championship points. After a great getaway from pole, Ken lead by 2 seconds at the end of lap 1 and steadily built up a cushion to eventually finish over a minute ahead of Kruger's Cooper. Brendan’s practice times in his Cooper indicated that he would have been very hard for Ken to beat, nevertheless a successful day for the men brave enough to take the faster chassis.

Server replay time: 0h23m40s

Hristo Itchov - Lap 19 – Pit Lane. An untidy pit stop by Hristo compounded by the fact it was two seconds short. For a 19 second stop there is really no need to spin up the wheels during the stop. GPL only retires drivers who have been stationary for 30 seconds, so spinning the wheels is only advised once every 20 seconds.

Had a reasonable enough qually and was all set to start 2nd on the grid, when I had the dreaded crash to desktop message, possibly due to a recent GFX card and driver update.  I'll try and get it sorted for Tuesday's challenge race.  If anyone has any ideas how to fix the problem, please let me know.

Grats to all finishers............and starters for that matter Wink

I was lying a distant 4th or 3rd ?  not sure cos I daren't take my eyes off the road to look.
Steven was giving chase so I stepped up the pace a little and he then faded (I think he may have had  a "moment")
Kruger was way ahead of me , I was starting to get that "lonesome feeling " and thinking about my pit in ( what was the ruddy pit window ? sod,  I forgot it again)

Then entering the downhill esses,  I had a ginormous and uncontrolable sneeze ! I tell you this was the sneeze of the century , Krakatua was nothing on this baby, the house shook to the foundations , the cat ran for cover , the neighbours came out to see what all the commotion was about, convinced that Aliens had landed  !

When I had recovered my composure  , I noticed I was stationary , my Coop minus its Left front , the dashboard,  wheel and screen all covered in dripping snot  Roll Eyes

Not the best way to end a race but certainly different  Grin

How was it for you Huh

Steven was giving chase so I stepped up the pace a little and he then faded (I think he may have had  a "moment")

I decided to pit hoping to pass you that way, but then blew it by having a "moment".

Another 4th by attrition for me. I didn't drive very consistently: 3/4 spins and a "technical problem": my screen suddenly faded out to black, but I could hear my engine was still running. Slammed on the anchors, and then realised it was probably the screen saver kicking in for no very good reason  Huh. Tapped the keyboard and sure enough, there was my Cooper parked on the tarmac. I adopted a "one tap per lap" strategy to stop it happening again  Roll Eyes.

Still more fun than iRacing (perhaps that because I "know" how to drive a GPL car), but I hope to be able to drive the Skip Barber car within a week, so that may change.

I don't know, maybe its the Euro 2008 but this track has had terrible attendance in both showings and personally, I don't like it very much - it just bloody undulates too much and has too many blind corners for my taste.

I had been beaten in quali by two of my closest competitors, Clive and Brendan, as expected and I was set for damage limitation.

As we lined up on the grid, we lost Brendan - very sorry for you mate, I imagine its rather frustrating racing every forthnight and being so well prepared for the race, only to drop out due to technical problem, such a pity Sad

Start was uneventful, with Hristo making his way through - I had intended to try and put up a fight but went too much to the inside before the double right-hander and had to make a 90 degree turn to go around the corner.

I soon lost Clive who was faster than me and at least we would have had a good fight for third, as Ken looked rather good in his Lotus and there was little doubt Hristo would end his winning spree. I whizzed by Clive's spluttering Cooper and was then set for the most boring race ever!!!

Bernie and Steven were behind and the gap to them was increasing so I drove like a granny for the rest of the race (spun twice at T1), made my SnG and then hoped Steven would do the right thing and disconnect so I can put my self out of misery and retire in third (I'm sure Steven pondered the same thing Smiley )

So, a hollow podium and a result that puts me third on the table (I believe) but, that's racing. Hopefully, we'll have more attendance next time around.

Grats to Hristo for his usual stuff and grats to Ken for a good run with the Lotus.

Hmmm!  well it was all working so well until............Huh
I knew that qually would not see me in pole position, not with Hristo in a Brab ( or anything else come to that) and Ken in a Lotus ( brave man ) and Brendan the Cooper specialist Oh! and Kruger.
So I settled for some laps on race fuel to see just how fast I could go and was amazed to be showing 3rd !! but knew it would not last, it never does!!!
 ....But it did ...just!!!lol
Brendan had technical probs and unfortunately missed the start..hard luck Brendan :O ..So I was behind the Lotus of Ken and Hristo was doing the gentleman thing after his faux pas in starting qually a tad early (tsk! tsk!). Got a good start and was still half expecting Kruger to come around me on T1 but as I crested the rise going in to T2 I had a small gap.
There was no way I was going to keep up with Ken's Lotus, but if I could keep time gap to a minimum then maybe just maybe the pitstops would play into my hands. After a few laps I could still see Ken, so he was not pulling that much of a gap in front and a healthy 3 sec gap back to Kruger which was stretching tenth by tenth. Hristo appeared on Prib and soon passed Kruger and began closing...ah well only to be expected I suppose!  lol.
Then, I inadvertantly dropped 2 gears at the top of the hill and crashed into second gear when the engine thought it should have been third!!! the whizzy bits did not like this sudden change in their routine and in protest they went on a go slow!!! Pottered around for a few more laps wondering if it was worth doing the next 30 odd laps at a snails pace just in case everyone else crashed or blew their brains out.
In the end frustration got the better of me and I rammed the armco at the top of the hill to put myself out of my misery!!!
Disappointed not to have done a lot better, as it seems I had the pace about right . Grats to the finishers  and commiserations to Brendan for his CTD ( what happened to Burt??) .
Slime Crock next....oh whoopy doo :O((

Hmm, Brendan really likes it.  probably a case of personal choice.  I did have a poll on the old Yahoo groups where drivers could vote for their favourite and least favourite tracks.  Looks like we need something similar here on SRou.  detective

I like it too. Smiley

My car choice last night was mainly just to add some variety to my recent GPL driving and to enjoy the lovely Lotus engine wav file that Ducwolf posted at RSC a few weeks ago. I felt really comfortable in the Ferrari last week in the Masters and it is actually a much easier car to get around Road Atlanta, but I'm always up for a challenge.

I couldn't quite get a nice rythm going in the early part of qually but with others taking the slower cars I was still on pole with Hristo offering to start at the back.

Anyway then I got myself in a right knot. I realised my profiler wasn't running and so GPLWait wouldn't work. I left to start it up and in the process accidently started rFactor. Now that takes about 5 mins to load at the best of times so I was frantically typing ctrl-alt-del and managed to kill it before the splash screen got going.

Then when I got back on the server the FF was totally different, it was much lighter and I couldn't drive it. I had to leave again and sort it all out. My global settings and GPL settings had got all mixed up somehow!!!

Anyway after all that I did manage to make the race start but not exactly in a calm frame of mind.

I just never felt comfortable and ran wide when Hristo caught me. After that I was lucky that my potential main rivals struck trouble and I was able to drive conservatively home to second.

Exactly Phil, its a matter of personal choice, I wouldn't put it any other way. I merely pointed that it had low attendance and that the culprit may have been Euro; we did miss about five regulars last night. Its possible Lime Rock MC may suffer the same way - these being at the end of calendar certainly doesn't help.

Personally I liked Atlanta , I could develop a nice rythm there . The big shock was finding out just how much off the pace I was . where the heck do I get those extra 5 secs from ?

Ok I'm not greedy just gimme  3 seconds , please , I promise to be good (for the next  race at least)    Wink

This was a new track to me for Masters and it took a while to get "into" it,  but slowly the line and setup began to gel and eventually lap times began to creep down as each corner was mastered ( well sort of stumbled around Roll Eyes  )

Can't say its one of my favourites but would certainly race here again if it was on the calender. I actually like the challenge of blind corners and hitting an invisible apex.
