Moderator's Report

It's not entirely clear why Blunder was recorded by GTL as a DQ; there are no invalid laps recorded in the export. I can only assume that in pressing Escape so soon after crossing the line (under a second) GTL ot confused.

Note to Organisers - I seem to recall that when I raced these beast's last, in MARA, we had to install a fix for crash detection or behavior or something. Sorry I cannot remember exactly what the problem was. Perhaps you could check nogrip for a such a fix?

Thank you Tony thumbup1 I was unaware there was such a problem but noticed exploding Mercs, from racing touches, trouble surfaced during a recent no-grip race. We are looking into it.

Anybody got experience of using the available fix (please don't install it yet if you haven't done so, we will sort it Smiley) ?

Could be a good way of having a no-contact race  shifty

The fix available at No-Grip (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4181) works fine, been running it for ages with no issues.  It's definitely needed.

The read-me file for the fix says that it only needs to be installed on the server to fix everyones car. But if your racing offline you will need to install the fix as well.

Well the Merc isn't a popular car to choose in GTC-65 races so it only gets picked when it's Hobsons choice. I don't recall a only Merc race in SROU before. I only knew about the problem because I'd had to drive one in another league.

I'm glad we're being forced to run these because there would be no way in hell i'd choose this Grin

Its surprisingly fun trying to sail this boat around here, i think the brakes on this car are only for testing the bulbs. You seem to have to drive it off the rears as it seems to brake traction so easily with all that torque.

This race is going to end in carnage for many. A lot of peoples races are going to be ruined in other peoples accidents.

Yes, I may be cynical, but I am certain there is going to be big trouble. The car is fun, but on this track it's suicidal.

Will cross my fingers the fix works.
Love these cars but I have tried a few offline races and it is a nightmare getting past any of the cars.
I have to restart half a dozen times before I get a clean first lap!?
Like the vertical jumps though!  Wink

Don't think anyone should be unduly frightened Smiley The Merc feels very neutral to me and its far easier to drive than the choices for the fun race we had around here, which went off without much grief. Care will be needed but I have no such concerns, we wouldn't have chosen the combo else Wink We should have news on the "exploding" Merc fix soon.

Should just let you all know that grid slots will be limited as garages are in shortish supply here. We all should get on but get there early to avoid dissapointment.

Don't know about "exploding" but they sure bounce well! Applied the fix, and now they are, if anything
overly tolerant to contact. They still bump each other around, but they don't leap off the track
vertically anymore.
Tried changing setups to make it less wobbly, and I succeeded, but also made it very slow in
the proccess, it seems to hustle it round you need it to be a bit loose, and you need a sensitive
right foot (still working on that) easy enough to slide round for a few laps, but in a proper race, I think there will be
the odd spin. Having said that, they seem to handle like the Falcoln, they go very sidways before
completely losing it. I've tried an AI race, and they just form a train, and as stated are tough
to get past. I think with mere mortals running there is likely to be a greater speed differential.

Yes, I've found that too. In an offline race last night I appeared to pass sideways through the middle of another car. Still, better that than VTOL. Should be a laugh this one, and with enough practice beforehand, there's no need for it to be any more accident-prone than any other race. You might like to remind me that I said that when you see me lying wheels-up in a ditch.
