In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

euro

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night Wink).

"A special event designed by Bill Thomas. As Bill told me "I've always fancied racing the original BMW M3 (a properly designed racing saloon from scratch) at Donington. Saw them in their opening season's European Touring Car Championship Race there. To see a gaggle of them drifting through Craner Curves on the opening lap was terrific and will not be forgotten."

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (56 laps = ~70mins)

Track: Donington Park (National)
Cars allowed: BMW 320i Download this

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: 2x
Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: UKGTL RDs
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

I've set the time of day back to 14:00 as I was getting a bad graphics experience with Donington using the previous time setting of 16:00. Going back to 14:00 seems to fix it.

1:18's any good?

I'm sure I've tried this car before, but couldn't find the installer... once downloaded & installed, it seems quite a nice/challenging car.
But it almost feels like there is a layer of dampness on the track Undecided, maybe they just had no grip! laugh

Anyway, we're all in the same car & I think it's a good match up. So well done Bill & the 70's/80's Wink

These cars are great to drive but they love to spin at the slow turns. The back has a tendency to break lose. Check out this previous post from Geoffers https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7814.msg141318#msg141318

That's probably the best explanation you could say about the 320.. It's only or mostly at the slow speeds like people have talked about. Car is real stable in the fast stuff but when the going gets slow the back end feels very slick or damp Wink I tried many solutions trying to fix it but the fact is the car will always be lively in the slow stuff Shocked

Having some trouble keeping the Donny track on the server, keep getting lost connection with host messages. I'll put up the Donny GP track as well and see if that fixes it

Well so far the GP track seems more stable so we may be racing on that circuit instead. Sorry for the change but not much more I can do at such short notice.

Shame about the small field tonight, could have done with a few more spinners lol. I gave up about half way when my tap against a barrier caused my fragile front bumper to drop of. Then tried to pit but pit crew ignored me. Decided then it really wasn't worth the effort so quit. Hope you keep going Bill and thanks for the fine racing Demartini whilst it lasted.

Was decent race, just lacked a few more drivers for the race experience.

Managed to steal a position off Phil with a couple of laps to go, having had a good last 10-15laps chase with Navin. Phil had stopped for a splash & dash (as did most), while I'd elected to just do the one pit stop & finished with 1.3L left Grin.

Shame that one of the drivers felt the need to flash away at me, from the moment he got within 100meters... Please check the rules here again about lapping & being lapped & then think about the fact that you finished on the same lap as me. I was kind enough to make it an easy pass for you tonight. Flash me like that again & I very much doubt I shall be so accommodating next time. Smiley

Would you know, after all, I enjoyed the 320 (but not close to CSL, ofcourse  laugh )
Starting from 5th, I was happy, Sqter spun at 1st corner right in my path, nowhere to go I braked hard to avoid any heavy damage, I guess I did, but both lost a few places.
Each lap I was gainning confidence on the 320 and a few positions too.
Just before pit in, I made a mistake at the chicane and hit the barrier, losing the front splitter.
It wasn't easy driving this car at Donington without front splitter...  Grin
Went to pits and just add fuel, didn't change tires and didn't repaired the car, well, I took the risk.
Had drive many laps in the lead due my strategy, but Pelle with his fresh tires overtook me near the end.
4 laps to finish, Pelle and I went to a splash & dash stop and at the very last lap Sqter did the same.
Nice race with a very consistent driving from Pelle and Sqter.
Well done all, not the easiest car to drive.  Smiley

Cheers
