Round 7 of the Spec Challenge & its back for a second of three races in France. Another nearly new track for UKGPL (last used in Season 15) we are at Reims. Its a medium length circuit with very long straights ending in hairpin corners. That said there are only a handful of turns so should not take too long to learn & it’s 65 cars (Lotus & BRM).

No complaints about the shortened qualifying times for the last round so we will continue with 12 minutes for race 1 & 10 minutes for race 2. Lap time will be excess of 2 minutes so don't hang about.
Hristo may be kind enough to post a demo lap on his site. If not the only tip I can give is to avoid the cornfields across the run off – it’s like hitting a brick wall,
The championship table shows FMG with a narrow lead from Hristo then Evil Clive.  Full details here Spec Race Challenge
Spec races consist of two back to back Intermediate Short races on the same track. Each driver has to drive one car in each race - start whichever you like. Anyone daft enough to drive the same car will be disqualified from race two. This weeks choice of chariot is the Lotus and the BRM.

Spec Races is the only championship with no handicapping – it’s down to individual driver skill & the ability to cope with different cars.

Races will be run on one grid with one championship table for Season 20.

The Spec Series will be run according to normal UKGPL rules, although only reported incidents will be moderated. (Please file reports by the Friday after race night). Unlimited resets (Shift R) are allowed and you must take a Stop & Go penalty unless another driver or warp was clearly responsible for your misfortune. Stop & Go means coming to a complete halt in (or around) your pit box - please be careful on the rejoin not to impede other cars.

See! Look at race 1; I can drive fast!  I just need 4 other people in front for a tow!

As I said after the race, I've never been so close to the leader and still been in 5th!  laugh

Good fun.  Shame I kind of spoiled both of my races by dropping it on the exit of the final turn around mid race.  Must stop doing these avoidable errors.

If it wasn't for my shinanigans when knocking Clive off the road I think you could have been in a chance for a podium Steve  Roll Eyes. Those two races were brilliant fun. In hindsight, my best opportunity of a win was in race 1, but sadly I made a mess of things on the penultimate lap which gave H the gap he needed to cruise to victory. Race 2 was even more hectic, with a race long battle with Tim and Clive. Sadly I was a sitting duck on the straight on the last lap and lost the battle of the slipstreamers. Should have used slightly more cunning tactics but never mind, that was the most fun I've had all season  Smiley.

Well done on the laptimes Steve  thumbup1
Knew you could go fast if you really wanted too  Wink

Well, race 1 went well right up until I lost track of Sam's car and spotted what turned out to be his doppleganger behind in my mirrors - this resulted in my pulling back onto the racing line only to be clobbered by Sam who was still beside me  Roll Eyes
Thankfully as it was on a corner, only I was affected and promptly span off with the grace of a hippo on rollerskates....

Rejoined and put my head down as Ronnie was fast approaching and looking menacing, we had a battle for a lap or two before I finally dropped him enough to be safe. Then amazingly in the closing stages I caught first Steve and then Evil as they inspected the scenery and lucked into a solid 3rd  Grin

Race 2 was somewhat different as it was a massive battle from the get go. First victim was Hristo who was obviously curious over exactly why Art disappeared in to the undergrowth in race 1 and decided to go look  Cheesy
From there on it was a massive 3 way battle to the flag between Clive, Sam and myself with occasional guess appearences.
All this culminated after several hectic laps of testing tactics for use against Clive, with Sam claiming the lead a few corners from the finish and messing up my finely crafted plan  hammer
Instead of doing my best to ensure Clive 'gained' the lead approaching/in/exiting the final turn I made the decision to prompt him into making his move on the turn proir to that by accidentally running slightly wide ( Wink ), faced with me in the dirt and Sam several car lengths ahead Clive took the bait and ran with it while I hastilly regained the track and slipstreamed the pair down to the final corner.

Here we all contested the corner in style with Clive leading and Sam and I near enough side-by side. Which was fine by me as it only slowed my turn giving me a better speed advantage when I did catch Clive - meaning he had no hope of jumping into my slipstream and drafting back around me  Grin

So, all in all I'm damn pleased with the race having scored a 1st and a 3rd despite only getting 5th fastest race lap on each outing  ninja
