Moderator's Report

Another race with no reported incidents!! are you guys trying to make me redundant?? Keep up the good work.

In order that I can justify my immense salary as a moderator I did however watch through the race ( on fast forward 16x, for each driver) just in case there were any points that needed to be looked at.

There were several "Racing incidents" where momentary loss of control by a driver caused some exchanges of paint samples and, in one or two cases, some trips into the undergrowth, but generally there was good conduct throughout the race.

Just one point with no names.
If you are about to be lapped by a faster car it is probably best if you don't try and match his pace and attempt to stay ahead until the next straight. There was at least one, possibly 2 or 3 incidents, where a car about to be lapped lost control directly in front of one of the leading cars. As a result the faster car had to take evasive action and lost valuable time.
I know it is not easy and it constantly interrupts the race for the cars being lapped, but trying to match the pace of the car aboout to lap you is not really a good idea and will surely compromise your race and his if you go off and take the faster guy with you.

Just a note to Tim (FMG), I think your stopwatch needs a new battery! By my reckoning, and the replay timer in GPL, your pitstop was about 13-14 secs. Very noble of you to be so careful but those 3 secs might have cost you a higher position at the end of the race?

Round 6 and even further into the southern hemisphere armed with our with tinnies, barbies and looking out for the dunnies......Adelaide
This track with its long straight and twisting street circuit layout should test all drivers and cars

You all know the difficulties with the poor rear view in these cars so please be aware that the car in front maybe cannot see you and does not know you are there. Particularly on the first racing lap! The use of the "virtual mirror" may not be exactly historically accurate but it makes things a lot safer..it is your choice.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = Sunday July 10th
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Adelaide
Race length = approx 50 minutes (34 laps)
Variant = GT mod
Damage Model = Intermediate (see rules below re resets)
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join the server.
Password: see above
Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

There will be rolling starts for all races with full moderation of both the warm-up and first lap.

Guidelines for rolling starts...

The car on pole will lead off the grid and maintain a steady pace for the 1st lap around 175kph
All drivers should form up in single file behind him leaving 3-4 car lengths between each car.
There is NO OVERTAKING on the 1st lap until the exit of the last corner.
It is the reponsibility of the lead car to ensure that all drivers are with him as he approaches the final corner.
Racing and overtaking begin AFTER the exit of the last corner, so you may overtake between the exit of the last corner and the S/F line.

Any driver who loses his position on the rolling lap, by going off, blowing his engine or through contact with another car ( regardless of fault) must rejoin at the back of the field.
Incidents on the rolling lap ( Lap 1) will be fully modded and anyone found to have caused another competitor to lose position through bad driving will be penalised appropriately.
Also, please make sure that you know which car you should be following on the rolling lap, so that you do NOT get out of position.

The teams have been chosen and the cars are polished and ready to go.

TEAMS

RED TEAM          HRISTO ITCHOV,  Evilclive, Paul Badblood

GREY TEAM     Captained by Tim Vosblod who is looking after the part time drivers who cannot be sure to attend every race.

The cars for the Grey team for this season will be
Chapperal 2D
Mirage
Ford GT40 MK1

a NEW pink team HAS BEEN FORMED TO ACCOMODATE A FEW MORE OF THE TEMPORARY DRIVERS IN THIS SERIES

The Cars for the Pink Team are
Ferrari
Mk2 GT40
Porsche

All drivers must drive all 3 team cars at least 3 times. At the end of the 10 race championship any TEAM found to be in breach of this rule will have its BEST TEAM points result of the season cancelled. Each driver will drop his worst 2 results, in line with the other championships, this gets over the problem of missed races and 2 man teams looking for a sub at the last minute.

The events will be run on Intermediate damage and allow ONE Shift-R with a compulsory 10 second pit stop regardless of fault. (This means 10 seconds in your pitbox without moving). Any driver who fails to take a 10 second stop within 1 lap after a Shift-R, will be disqualified from the results. For this division the full moderation of lap one now applying across all divisions will include both the warm up lap and lap one proper.

Please check the Season 21 pages for details regarding rules and the GT Team Challenge pages in particular.

To help everybody I have prepared a table of chassis usage. Any errors are entirely mine (there aren't any Grin ). Do not forget that you need to drive each chassis 3 times to avoid a points loss at the end of the season.

Thanks for posting that Paul. I suggest every driver/team studies it and works out which cars they still must use.

Yep, I know but he has used up a chassi so you have to nominate who he drove as so that the Chassis usage can be combined. Sam's choice I guess as Captain?

Same thing will happen when Geoff drives for Nigel. He will carry over Nigel's chassis usage.

You don't have to stick to the three chassis use each but if you don't the penalty will be way higher than any points Natan gained for you...

The chassis allocations can get quite complicated!!!!  I suggest it is a good idea to plan them out well in advance or you are likely to make a mistake.  No need to make it public like we have (see here) not that it matters much in my case Wink

If I could race as well as I do pretty tables...

I had the Chap 2F which is a bit like giving a toddler scissors to play with...

Quite pleased with my qually and as Al was in a 2F as well I felt that there was a private battle going on. He beat me by half a second so one up to the Happy Man. In the race I felt a good start was key and I had a better line to T1. Green Flag - GO GO GO - Blimey that Ferrari is slow, oops bump, pit wall hello, everythings OK. WOW I've made up five places... what the... oh bugger. Rolling start D'oh.

Lap 2 - not so good but I did discover Al stuck on the haybales - hooray (sorry mate). Then I span and he caught right back up. I was finding the sharp turn at the end of the straight a real handful and Al was MUCH quicker there but I was quicker in other places. Just got to be calm - put the pressure on, concentrate - oh bugger I've spun. It was nice whilst it lasted.

Every time I thought, "...got to be calm..." it was followed by "Oh bugger". When Al came to pass me the first time I did have the unworthy thought that a short jab in the rear might cause us both to Shift-R but he'd already used his...  devil luckily Team Red have a better standard of manners than that angel and off he went. I then lost concentration really badly and started spinning every other lap or so. Prib was useless so I just kept parking up and letting 'em by and drove for the finish.

Disappointing really. But fun. and that the point. Well done Al. I'll get you one day. You and Nigel are my 'markers'...

Somebody should blow alarm clocks up! Mine at least is deserving of that 'honour' Sorry Tim and Dave, didn't wake to the alarm and missed the race.....Eyes flew open, stumbling round in the half light of pre-dawn getting dressed, forge onward to the computer. Boot it up expectantly and check how much time before the start. 06:58......06:58!!!!  Bugger. Hope it was fun.......Sad

I’d be lying if I said I enjoyed that, at several points during the race I nearly gave up.

This was my first race at Adelaide, and I’m sure it’s fun in the 65’s but I just couldn’t get my big 2F around the track. SO I went into Qualifying still trying to learn the track, braking points, turn in’s etc. I was fairly happy with my time as it was a little faster than I’ve been doing in off line practice.

The start of the race was a disaster for me, as Paul has already said I got it stuck in the hay bails at the end of the big straight on lap 1, the annoying thing is that I didn’t even brake late. I tried to reverse out but I couldn’t so I needed a shift & R. I looked for the pit lane, but missed it on the lap, so I took my 10 second penalty on the next lap. I normally practice going into the pits, but because I was having so many problems with the track I never did a pit lane check.

Getting back to the race, I was a mile behind Skymole and Badblood, I thought it would take a good 10 laps to catch up, but I saw both of them very soon after they had spins. I managed to over take both of them and start to pull a little lead, unfortunately I had a few spins about this time too. Myself and Paul had a little battle which ended when he span, and I finally managed a series of laps without spinning.

With about 10 laps to go I settled in for the finish, I knew that there was no chance of any more places so I took it easy. My lap time came down substantially at this point and about this time I started seeing Dave Rendell up ahead, he obviously had a few problems of his own. I managed to get onto the back of him with about 3 laps to go, we had a good battle, and I managed to get my nose ahead a few times, but Dave always managed to get me back on the undercut. I tried to save on last big push for the last lap, but had a small moment just before the straight and lost my chance.

At the end of the race my lap time was 3 to 4 seconds faster than I had been in practice and I think I had been trying too hard. I will remember that for the next race at this track. Well done to the rest of my team mates, if I can sort my silly spins out I might be able to collect a couple more points in the next 4 races.

After some last minute pre-race planning in the Red Team it was decided that Hristo would take the Mirage as his 4th drive of that car ( which means he cannot use that car again and must use the Porker or 2F from here on.) and I would use one of my remaining Porsche drives. Paul having missed one race is locked into using the 2F and the Mirage for the remaining races.

(I suggest that any team that has not planned their use of cars checks out their remaining races, because it gets quite critical as the season wears on. Remember, that you cannot both drive the same car in the same race so some forward planning might be a good idea?)

I had tried the Porker and the Mirage in some private practice and was happy with either, but was very surprised to find just how competitive the Porsche was around this track. I thought that the long straight would favour some of the muscle cars, but their advantage did not seem that great.
Hristo and Juha set some great qually laps and I found myself in 3rd spot as we rolled around for the start. For the first few laps it was easy to keep pace with Hristo and Juha ahead, losing just a little on the straight but easily making that back on braking and the run around to the S/F line.
Although I was quicker through the twisty bits, the grunt of Juha's Chap 2D meant he had the acceleration out of the slow corners and i could not get a clear chance of a pass even when I took a tight line and got alongside he would just outdrag me to the next corner Undecided.

I needed a mistake and kept the pressure on but it was not Juha who made the error but Hristo!! exiting the chicane after the start line he clipped the wall and bounced back across the track collecting Juha on the way. I thought that I was through, but Hristo's pinball impression sent him back across the track and clipped me into the green stuff. When we all recovered Hristo was still in the lead I had inherited 2nd and Juha had dropped back in 3rd.
The next laps were a case of following Hristo who was not able to get away from my Porsche and I sensed the chance of a top step podium place Wink
Then there were some moments of team confusion (where radio communication would have been good) Hristo was pulling over to let me pass and I thought he was trying to confuse me lol. Then Hristo overcooked a bend and I was through and into the lead at the end of the straight with the whole of the twisty bit in my favour  Grin
By the time we reached the straight again I had pulled a nice gap and I think Hristo spun as he entered the straight and I was away and clear.  Juha moved into 2nd but was several seconds back and I found I could easily maintain the gap without risking anything until..........................
half way down the straight at max revs and the screen went BLACK!! but the sound continued correctly??!! I was just about to hit the "Escape" button when the picture re-appeared...just in time to see the concrete wall at the end of the straight a mere 2 metres ahead at 150mph!!!...BUMP! but miraculously no damage  Grin
Juha and Hristo swept through as I recovered along with some choice words and I was back in 3rd again. I easily closed the gap and sat on Juha's tail as he in turn hassled Hristo for a few laps. Then Juha got into a spin as we entered the straight.
Unfortunately, the Porsche was able to take that corner flat in 2nd so that I entered the straight carrying as much speed as I possible to keep up with the faster cars and that was just what I was doing when my road was suddenly blocked by a rather large and sideways 2D!!! Sorry to Juha for bulldozing him skywards with my little Porker, but I could not avoid him.
Hristo was a couple of seconds ahead by now and I started to close the gap lap by lap until I could see him just a 150 metres ahead at some points. Plenty of laps left to catch him. Then..............another Black screen exiting the chicane!!! frantic hitting of space bar and random keys ( not sure if it did anything but the picture reappeared after some 5 secs and I was into the wall again!!)
That screwed any chance of catching H so I decided to cruise to the finish and 2nd spot...bad move! I relaxed my concentration and managed to impale myself on a haybale requiring shift-R to escape. Luckily Fulvio was far enough behind with 2 laps to go so that my 10 second stop did not lose me 2nd place.

Grats to Hristo and Fulvio for the podium and to all the other finishers.

From here on the season gets interesting as the car allocation begins to be important........ Grin

A
Juha and Hristo swept through as I recovered along with some choice words and I was back in 3rd again.
Sorry to Juha for bulldozing him skywards with my little Porker, but I could not avoid him.

yes np i was struggling on that wierd right hander corner everytime i passed it .  Unfortunately i did it once too fast and lost rear grip.

Chap2d feels quite okay to the track and i did improve my pb time, first race laps was maybe too exciting to me and was pressuring Hristo to errors, finally he did one after 1st shicane but i didnt get any benefit from it  laugh  Evil was driving back very close but he didnt have passing opportunities.

was frustrated after the accident and few laps later blew up my engine and retired. Tongue

grats Hristo
