Firstly, as we all know, attendance tends to drop off quite dramatically towards the end of a season, so the shorter the season the better the average attendance. UKGPL uses a 9 race season so reducing slightly from 10 doesn't seem unreasonable.
True but if the season is shortened to 8 races then will attendances start to drop by race 5 or 6 ? If the guys don't turn up because they are out of the championship running then it doesn't matter if the season is 6, 8, 10 or 12 races long there will come a point where people start to drop out.
Secondly, there's a timing issue with the possible release of GTR2 in June.
Yes, I know, I'll believe it when I see it too. Exactly Dave, I will believe it when I see it. Are we really planning on jumping straight into a championship season with GTR3 ?
The choice of Spa is down to it being by far the longest track and therefore a bit anomalous in the set. Enna will be gone from GTR2 as they didn't race there after 2003 so we might as well get used to it.
True Spa is the longest, but its only a few seconds longer than Brno and adds variety to the season. The same could be said of Oschers, too short, or Enna, too dangerous, or Estoril, too bumpy and I hate it, or Monza, too dull, or, well you get my point. IMHO the 10 tracks in the full season add variety and present a different challenge for every driver. Start to take away this track or that track and it becomes less of a challenge and ultimately less rewarding. For me it would de-value the ultimate prize of winning the championship, kind of a 3/4 season championship, good but not the same as the real thing.
