Formula One 1988 Season 2 (U15F1) Sign Up Thread

The first 2 spec races of this series have allowed the faster drivers the opportunity to get some points on the championship table. It has also allowed me to gather data for the remainder of the season which will be a repli of the 2nd half of the RL championship of 1988. Races will be half length RL with 1 full length GP at Monza88.

There will be a success ballast system which is designed to create close racing and prevent anyone from dominating the championship. This will take effect following the results of Round 3 Hockenheim.

Please choose a car to drive for the remainder of the season which corresponds to your driver rating number or higher. Please state your particular car choice along with the driver name you will be using. No car swapping this season please.

New drivers are welcome to join and will be allocated an appropriate choice of car upon request in this thread.

Weight ballast is cumulative up to a maximum of 120kg. Weight will be added based on drivers' finishing positions in the previous two rounds they have taken part in.

I guess with a choice of 1 team i'll go with the Ferrari then! Though i was eyeing up a decent handling car like the williams or lotus. I was actually enjoying the AGS last night.

There's nothing stopping you choosing anything else mate. From the announcement:

"....your driver rating number or higher."

Once the ballast sytem comes into play it will substantially mix things up anyway, so choose a car you're comfy in.

Err I read it as higher in the list not neccesarily a higher number car so i only had the maclaren or ferrari to choose from. Thats not right then?

Yes mate, your number or higher so effectively anything except the McLaren. Anytime before your next race is ok but it is first come first served.

LoL I was trying to think of a way of dressing that up  ;) Err.....0 is a c00l number?

im still sitting on the fence a bit with this and not sure if its for me.  :-\ What car would you recommend i take considering my complete lack of track time with this mod (albeit harassing Legzy hard in my first event  ;) ) ferrari, Ligier or a lotus?

Your driver rating is 3 MJ so the fezza (rated 1) is off limits for you. The Ligier is rated 3 while the Lotus is a 5 (the lower the number the stronger the car). Personally I'd go for the Ligier as it handles well and has good top speed.

Away till next week so no chance to try it compared to Eurobrun but suppose the difference is slight?

I only had a quick blast in each before I went for the slightly madder EuroBrun option. It has red rims you know 8)

Done some running last night, played with the suspension and softened it all up massively which has helped improve matters for me, so looking forward to it.

May I take Capelli's March this season? The March seems more nimble than the Lotus. Just had a quick blast at Hockenheim and it's a peach through the stadium  :).

Any room for an online newbie? I saw this mod and liked it straight away. I might need some idiot's guide to online racing, if someone knows where to point me. And with not much experience in these cars, I'll take whatever car's still available.

Sure, welcome. :) Best guide is driving and you can watch the laptimes of our previous season and match them, car by car. Then you can see if you're fast or slow. Do laps in solo time-trial to improve by besting yourself. :) Goldtop will point you in the car selection. Hope to see you on the grid. 8)

We've just started a new season so now is a good time to join the fun. I used the first 2 races to determine car choice so that we run a reasonably close grid for the rest of the season. Have a look at these events and let me know how you get on in the AGS at Interlagos and the Ferrari at Mugello.

Can I take the Piquet Lotus please?

Mugello is a new track for me, but I managed 1:28.6 in the Ferrari once I got used to the layout. I found the AGS harder to get comfortable with, although the circuit is familiar. 1:21.7 is the best Ive managed there so far.

At the moment I think the Ferrari would be the right car for you Les. However, if you're new to the mod those times are good and could come down considerably as you adjust to the cars. The March or if you want more of a challenge the Ligier are both nice cars to drive and I think would be a better choice.

If you have time, give them a go at Hockenheim and see what you think. There should be a few of us on the server after tonight's GTL race (about 10pm) and if you're an online newbie it will give you more confidence to run a few laps in company before your first race.

I got on well with the Ferrari, but I'll try the March and Ligier cars as well tonight if possible.

You were hardly being any trouble Prof ??? You asked one question & it was politely suggested you try something like the Ligier. To drop out is a bit extreme ???

GT is just keen for people to be roughly balanced. You'll find that most these excellent F1'88 cars can be driven with the same setup, so time in the Prost car will not have been wasted. :)

hi Prof, the more fast, consistent and safe drivers involved...... then the better the championship. Be great to have you along and considering your up to speed already suggest you will be in the thick-of-it on the grid  :)

A note to all please:

Practice 1 Hockenheim begins this evening at 19:40. I don't want to be faffing around with any driver/car changes or additions after this time, so may I politely request all to be sorted by then. Ta  :)

I don't think I have the will to go on with this series. F1 novelty has rubbed off and I feel I want to drive GTs again. Car is at your disposal.

OK TT....ta for letting me know. The Tyrrell might come in useful if new drivers come along.
