Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 Sports Cars - Oakes Field - Feb 18

Season 40 - SC67 Cup – Round 3 - Nassau - Oakes Field

The 3rd round of the Season 40 takes us to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race.

Please check the Season 40 details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1691&theme=6) regarding rules and the SCX Cup pages (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1761&theme=6) in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13319&#entry145626)

Well yet another fun race. Who said in chat it was a rolling start.

I did a rolling start and was left for dead. I was doing 140 mph through the first bend and still could not stay with pack.

Then passed I think Doni who was in the bushes between turns 2 and 3 I think. I managed another 2 or 3 corners before Doni had caught me up. He was approaching so fast i realised that early on I am just too slow to be racing in most of these series. Doni came up alongside me but I couldn't see his car so didn't think he had claimed the corner, I did not want to turn in and cut him up and ruin anything for both of us so early in the race so tried to stay wide and lose a little speed but it was too late for me and I slid off the track.

Tried to reverse and was stuck, did my one allowed shift r and sat there thinking once again what's the fun in this.

I now realise I'm not quite fast enough to even run mid pack, and also the way I like to drive cautiously for the first quarter or so of any GPL race just leaves me stuck in or behind all the T1 & T2 messes that are sadly happening too often, or so far behind every race is just bloody boring.

Hope you all had a good race chaps.

Paul.

I will confess here that I am DQ'd.

I did 3 resets but wanted to finish the race rather than just quit, so that I could learn to tame this stupid car!!! I don't think that I impeded anyone, but sincere apologies if I did.

In the race posts of the first races was written: For this race rolling start...

In this racepost was not!

Sorry if confusing,
I want to have normal standing starts when we have tracks with not a hairpin in nearby ;)

Post me as a DQ as I forgot to tank up to the minimum fuel requirement.

That 2F is brutally OP. I tried my best with my Ferrari and even despite that Greg is about 3-4 seconds per lap faster.

Had one reset on the last lap due to a engine blowing up.

Doni did I had a magnet on my rear end?  ::) ;D
On last but one lap I thought you were behind me as Pribluda said, so I tried to race you. Now I checked replay and you was lost by the server crossing s/f line at the end of 9 lap and lost a lap.
Frustrating race with all those sand traps, I was stuck on the sand three times, lost about one minute to restart, if I had reset first time I could have avoided two pass by Claudio e David  :stupid:

Still no electricity here.  :'(

Looks as though you had a fun race. I was all ready to go in the Chap2F and was lapping in the 1:22s so I was hoping for some points.

All I want now is some hot water and some light. Hope to see you on Sun in the 67s.

Hi, Fulvio.  Very sorry for the contact down in the British Colonial Loop off the start as I was completely bewildered by the field dashing away and you passing me.  I was sure that we were looking at a roller start with the race not starting until the we exited the Loop.  In fact, I swear that I saw an illustration in an early race posting announcement that pictured this.  Am I dreaming?  At one point in the race as I was chasing down Bot, I saw that my pit board was showing me way down the field for some reason.  I had clipped a polo in Prince George Corner and spun.  I thought perhaps that my spin had put me out of bounds and that I missed a checkpoint.  Late in the race, I came up on this white GT40...as I don't use Pribluda, I had no idea whom was at the wheel...and was a little confused as to why he was giving me such a hard time in letting me through to resume my assault on Bot.  I can now understand why you didn't give way thinking it was for position.  Of course, I bungled yet again and we had contact for a second time.  My bad.

My result should be adjusted to have me finish behind Bot but in truth, as I had failed to add the fuel ballast, I'm looking at a DQ.  For instances of this lapse in the future, perhaps rather than outright disqualification, the moderator should add a time penalty.  One minute seems about right.

Here's a little FYI for you F10/Chase view users...

There is a move afoot at the Repository...the source for all GPL mods...to outlaw this 'arcade' participation by removing the feature from the executable or providing a patch that must be used to join a server.  Better get used to using the cockpit view, lads.  I, for one, cannot fathom anything but using the cockpit view.
