Title: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) 1967 Alfa vs Porsche Cup - Crystal Palace - Nov 6

Season 37 - SC67 - Alfa vs Porsche Cup – Round 7 - Crystal Palace

Round 7 we will be at Crystal Palace, a former motor racing circuit in Crystal Palace, London, England. The circuit was located within Crystal Palace park. The route of the track is still largely extant today but the roads are now mainly used for access to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre located in the park, and to events within the upper parts of Crystal Palace Park. Some parts of the track are closed off and part is used for an annual Sprint Meeting, on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
In 1953 he circuit had been reduced in length to 1.39 miles (2.2 km), bypassing the loop past the lake, and pressure from the local residents led to an injunction which reduced motor sport events in the park to only five days per year. A variety of races took place, including sports cars, Formula Three, the London Trophy for Formula Two, and even non-championship Formula One races.
Average speeds continued to rise over the years, with the first 100 mph (161 km/h) lap average set in 1970 by that year's Formula One world champion, Jochen Rindt. Also in 1970, the injunction limiting race days expired and racing was increased to 14 days a year. However, driver safety was coming into focus in the early seventies and it became clear that racing around a park at 100 mph (161 km/h) was not safe. Expensive improvements were undertaken, but it was not enough to save the circuit. The last International meeting was in May 1972, the final lap record going to Mike Hailwood at an average speed of 103.39 mph (166.39 km/h).

Handicapping
"Works" drivers will carry extra weight in form of 10 gallons of fuel (to remain in the tank after the race).
Drivers are expected to behave in a fair and gentlemanly fashion and declare how much fuel they have left after the race.

In order to ensure there will be 10 gallons of fuel left after the race, the minimum race fuel load for Works is expected to be:
  • Alfa T33 = 23 gallons (87 litres)
  • Porsche = 24 gallons (91 litres)

Two resets will be allowed (there is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R).
Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.
Only reported incidents will be moderated.

So let's all try to be gentlemen drivers ;)

I think we'll all have to be patient and wait for a mistake. Don't worry David, if you are behind me (which quite honestly I doubt) you will get a chance  ;)

I've just done a few laps to try out the circuit with the Alfa. I'm having to drive 95% of the track with one hand, there are so many gear changes I can hardly take my other hand off the shifter.

so sorry david,  :hang:
I tried to avoid you, since you braked a little earlier than me, but I couldn't avoid the blow, I feel bad, I ruined your race :(
After that accident I tried to go back and it was good for me, I managed to get 3 after being last, but that joy on the podium is affected by the blow I gave David ... sorry friend ... :-[

That was an intense race. I couldn't afford 1 mistake, Fulvio was on my gearbox for 75% of the race. I made a couple of tiny errors which lost me time but not enough to give Fulvio an easy opportunity to pass. Enrique got past me but there was no point in defending too aggressively, he was much quicker and it was only a matter of time. I'm pleased the engine stayed on one piece, I missed a few gears and I over-revved the engine but thankfully it didn't break. I think my fuel advantage was the difference, my lighter car just had the edge on acceleration otherwise the result could have been different. Great driving Fulvio  :thumbup1:

Commiserations to David, I was feeling the pressure until your incident.

No problem, Enrique, that's the race !

As I wrote, before the race, there is no possibility to overtake here.
So I tried to be on a better position on the grid than Phil and Doni for Privateers championship.
But Phil took a better start and then Enrique rearended me.
I restarted on last position and could join Doni but it was not possible to overtake without taking big risks for us.
Finally my engine blew up on lap 46.

A race (and a track) to forget for me.

Thx Phil, it was a pleasure racing with you so close all the race. The plan was to work together to not loose time versus follower cars, and it worked. I had a couple of occasion to force a pass, but it was too risky. I was a bit upset when Tris lapped us at last but one lap cause he had a large gap to 2nd and he could have waited for our battle, but the man was in charge so I lifted at the end of backstraight to let him by  ;D
I tried for last turn when it seemed to me that you had a moment, but there wasn't space for two cars and I touched you. Luckily you ended in the right way to continue ahead and all went well  :)

Grats to our podium winners.  (Even if two required resets.  Ahem...)

A tough race with little in the way of having a chance to take a breather.  Sad to see the big shunt on Lap06 which effectively killed off Axel's race.  Spent much of the time watching Dave...delayed in that shunt...close in from 10 seconds back.  In the closing stages, he was right on my tail and with a little more track to work with, I'm sure that he would have engineered a pass.  Bad luck in having a spin late on followed by an engine failure, Dave.

Phil starting to look good for the Privateer's title.

Good evening everyone

Bravo Tristan for this new victory, you were still untouchable.
I'm lucky with this 2nd place because Enrique was faster and without going off the track at V1, I will surely have finished ahead of me.
Evil was very present at the start of the race.
I was under pressure before he faced a mistake and gave me a few seconds of comfort.
I followed Tristan from afar and also made several mistakes but luckily no one caught up to me until the end of the race.

Bravo to all and to the organizers

But Phil took a better start ......
I knew if I got a decent start and I was able to get close to Evil's gearbox (taking a wide line in T1 would loose a bit of time) it would give me a big advantage in T2. Enrique's brush with the barrier made it even more difficult for you and so your chances of keeping your position from the outside on T2 were very slim. Sorry about your misfortune David, you were the quicker of the three of us in this race (you, me and Doni) but everyone needs a bit of luck in racing. That is what makes it unpredictable and interesting! The next race will be very tough, I need to learn Targa Florio. Knowing the track isn't luck, it requires dedication :)
