Title: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: Rainier on August 16, 2018, 03:14:09 PM +0100 Season 33 Historic Trophy - Round 8– Albi
The 8th race in the 1966 Grand Prix series is in France, to be exact to the small town of Albi in the Midi-Pyrénées region. Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967. Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. IP: 94.217.48.155
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score. Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone. Handicapping and chassis allocation. This season the Historics will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice, 2 litre or 3 litre, for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=640&theme=6). Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens. The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total). Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See below. Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

I should be in Oviedo ... birthplace of "El toro de Asturias", F1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 who sadly will soon leave the F1 circus :-[ Have a nice race in Albi ! (with no racing incident ;) ) Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: DLogan on August 17, 2018, 06:10:50 PM +0100 ...F1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 who sadly will soon leave the F1 circus :-[ ... On the bright side, it's a reason to watch IndyCar again (in my case, for the first time since the '90s, aside from Indianapolis last year). I'd rather watch Fernando when he has a chance of winning. Have a great holiday David. I'm not planning to crash but I can't promise ::)Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: bagrupp on August 28, 2018, 09:56:40 PM +0100 sorry for that bitter End Axel, you have been in the blind spot until your wheel came to my sight.

With a mysterious procedure i was able to join.During the qualy 2 time the wheel blocked to the left,i was forced to live the qualy to adjust the problem.During the race the brake have lost efficiency and in some curve i was against barrier, fortunately without consequence. The last have had consequence,i lose power but i have finished anyway. :( Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: Phil Thornton on August 28, 2018, 10:33:15 PM +0100 The last have had consequence,i lose power but i have finished anyway. :( Unlucky Fran we were having a close battle at the start of the race. I thought you must have lost power, you were very slow on the straights on the last few laps.Axel's server was perfect tonight. We were able to drive very close without contact. You had me worried on lap 2 into the Double Right, we were centimetres apart. Yes in the first 2 laps and i made a strong braking to avoid your car but after is started the problem with the brake.Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: EvilClive on August 29, 2018, 03:23:52 PM +0100 Grats to Tris, Dean and Arf for the podium places.
Well that was an entertaining race for me. I could have taken a 3 litre car, (probably it would have been the Honda) but decided to see what I could do with the Eagle Climax. Axel had also chosen that car and was fractionally faster in qually, but I was running race fuel, so I knew that I was at least "on the pace" of the non 3 litre brigade ;). Got a good start and jumped Andreas, but the sheer grunt of the bigger cars allowed them to pass me running down to DD :-\ There were a couple of incidents in the early laps and I gained a couple of places until I was getting a tow from Bagrupp and Andreas, with Phil and Fran threatening from behind. Phil powered past on the straight but I was able to brake later and did a run around the outside of Double Droit!!! :o :o I was amazed to get away with that move and emerge unscathed....big thanks to Phil, for holding the inside line I think? Gradually I was picking up places, but it was obvious that I lacked outright speed and I became a bit of a parasite, willing to attach itself to any 3 litre car for a slipstream. Tris recovered and blew past me to chase Arfx3 and Dean, but I could not match his speed even with the tow. Then I came across a recovering Arf…...the rest of the race I was on the limit trying to hang on to his tail pipes. He was able to power away on the straights, but the baby Eagle was quicker through the corners and I could close the gap again. But.. there was just no way that I could get past unless Arf made a mistake.. and he did not ( would not! ) make a big enough error. lol Great driving Arf !!! Thoroughly enjoyed the battle ;D, and ran in 4th...no champagne :-\ Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: Arf Arf Arf on August 30, 2018, 10:55:29 AM +0100 As I said in the comments afterwards Clive, I got a nasty surprise when you came back at me. It took me a few laps to gap you, and even with the 3L car on a track with two long straights, that was a challenge.... and then all of a sudden you were right there again. I thought I had dozed off :-) It was good fun, and pleased that I didn't buckle under the pressure and fall off the track.
My main concern in the second half of the race was the growing (and largely correct) belief that I had not put enough fuel in the car. I was more intent on calculating fuel used per lap, and extrapolating if it was enough. I always though fuel use was linear in the GPL model? Not quite sure how I made it to the end, but I think I can only explain that by fuel use decreasing as the car got lighter? Title: Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Albi - Aug 28 Post by: Phil Thornton on September 08, 2018, 02:22:21 PM +0100 I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet. For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement). The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error. There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.
Available Tokens: Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.
