Title: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 66 71 Can-Am - Thruxton - Mar 11 Post by: Pete Bennett on March 02, 2022, 01:40:50 PM +0000 Season 40 – CanAM – Round 5 – Thruxton
For the last round in the CanAM 66 cars, we drive the challenging circuit of Thruxton in the UK. Please watch this lovely historic video (https://youtu.be/CQjdwX7EN7I) for more information. Most importantly, the first race there was won by a HILLMAN IMP, my favourite car EVER. If anyone wants to make a Hillman Imp mod for GPL, please sign me up be beta testing. ROLLING STARTS Red Line is on the exit of SEAGRAVE (https://i.ibb.co/XCnnSDc/Screenshot-2022-02-26-13-09-05.png) (https://imgbb.com/) It is highly recommended that you install the track updates from this thread. Driver lists and division specific rules can be found on the Championships Stangings Page. (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1751&theme=6) Please pay particular attention to the rules regarding ROLLING STARTS and chassis selection. Only ONE Shift-R is allowed with NO need for a Stop and Go.
REMINDER: Drivers must choose 3 cars from the 1966 Can-Ams, drive each at least once but no more than twice. Very difficult track with these cars without a piece of tarmac straight :o

Very difficult track with these cars without a piece of tarmac straight :o Yes, getting a setup for turning right is crucial and stability under braking for the chicane. This is why GPL is so good. Every race is a different challenge. I found Laguna Seca and Bridgehamptom harder than this. Yannick quickly vanished the into the distance before an uncharacteristic mistake. He soon retook the place from me leaving me to battle it out with Greg. Our positions switched after we both slid off the track through our own mistakes. We bumped a bit but we could both keep going. Sorry for that Greg, it was the narrow part of the track and visibility not great. My fault as I didn't quite leave you enough room. Sorry.
Looking forward to the 71 cars in the next round. Title: Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 66 71 Can-Am - Thruxton - Mar 11 Post by: Pete Bennett on March 15, 2022, 01:48:33 PM +0000 Cars after 5 rounds...
Please park your cars in the garage and make sure you bring out the CA71 cars for the rest of the season. Nevertheless, it does present some challenges what with the never-ending, right-hand sweeps from Goodwood all the way to Church. That plus the tricky Club Chicane where one can get in there over one's head all to easy.
Grats to our podium finishers! Well done. I had a largely uninspired run with only a couple of dramas along the way. Getting caught up with Clay and Fran in the Club Chicane early on set me well back and a late-race puckered sphincter while braking for same were the only notable occurrences. Otherwise, ho-hum... TY for hosting. Did I throw it off the road on my own or did I have some help? I apologize for spinning you but I was knee-deep in trying to rescue my own fortunes.

My apologies for the late reply. Sorry for that Greg, No problem Pete. I blame our accident on me. I was struggling. I needed vsync on and I turned it on for gplc66 instead of gplm66. My view was somewhat of a slideshow even though my fps never showed anything but 60 fps. I might have quit other than I wanted to finish what I started. This was a new track for me. I got it installed 10 minutes before qualifying. It would have been at least somewhat fun if I had my gpu set correctly. It was nightmare for me. I couldn´t see my braking points or apexes well. The best fun I got from this race was keeping Axel and Pete somewhat entertained. I´m glad Pete beat me. I had a chance to beat him but I had too many things working against me. After I caused a crash I reset. I didn´t have enough fuel to finish so the crash provided an excellent time to reset. With full fuel, I had no chance to keep up with Pete at the end of the race. I´m glad he didn´t screw up bad enough to let me back in front of him again. Take care guys. I hope to see you on track again soon. |
