Title: Monitor replacement needed
Post by: goldtop on August 09, 2017, 12:48:30 PM +0100
My Hanns G 28 inch monitor has finally given up so I need a replacement. I'm wondering whether to go monitor or tv route but don't want to suffer blur or excessive lag. I'm happy to stick with 60Hz refresh as I have no intention of upgrading my pc.

Any thoughts?

What resolution are you looking for? and do you want a curved screen? Also what ports do you need?

And what's your budget?

My 28" Hanns G was 1920 x 1200 x 60 Hz so similar spec needed

Not bothered about curved screen

My card has HDMI, VGA and DVI outputs

Budget: >£300 I suppose, I need something at least as good as my Hanns G (used to be )

Have a browse on Ebuyer. I just did and there is a good choice for less bucks than you might imagine. Look for screens with 1ms refresh rates.

My current 27" is still going well after four years and that's a Benq

Alternatively could you justify a new TV?

Our old 32" HD TV sound went awol and I attached to my PC in place of my 28" Monitor. (Obviously didn't need the TV sound).

Sneak the TV over to your PC and see how it works. If all is good then convince she who must be obeyed that her viewing experience would be so much better with a new TV. ;)

Mine is an older model running @ 60Hz 1920*1080 Wouldn't want to go much bigger unless the resolution was higher but looks great considering it was destined for the local recycling depot.

Very devious John  ;) I'd give it a go if I thought there was a remote chance of me getting away with it  :D

Seems that most monitors within price range top out at 27". Is there a 32" tv with a good enough response rate for racing?

Also there are IPS versus TN monitor screens. And does 4K mean I just use less anti-aliasing?

 ??? ??? ???

Don't give in too easily Tudor.  You could always snip through the speaker wires like John did!   ::)

Thanks for the pointers. Still scratching my head on the choices but in the meantime I'm going to attempt a repair to my old monitor. I've pulled the power caps out and have ordered replacements as these seem to be the offending items.
