Moderator's Report

Walter is unable to control car after hitting invisible object.
Whilst the race admins try to check that the 3rd party add-ons to P&G are error free sometimes things get past us.
No blame on Walter and no penalty. Racing Incident.

  • Walter Connadvice — Hits mystery track side object

Goldtop gets his braking all wrong at Mulsanne corner and wallops Johnny X. Definitely Goldtops fault but Johnny has asked that no penalty be given and we respect his wishes. Lucky boy Goldtop!

  • goldtopadvice — Lack of skill at tough corner. Victim has asked for no penalty to be made

.................. They'd never have such a long 1st gear for a start!

Bet they did.   Tongue  The GTLWorkshop couldn't possibly have made that up.

It's built for the Mulsanne Straight and not for mincing about through the Porsche Curves.

And Matt's glorious win was on the '72 track.

I think that the abandoned 911 might be supposed to be that of Steve McQueen from the film.  And that was '72 as well.

Oh!  And you can't have a 917 as it never ran on this version of the track and neither did the Pantera for that matter, as far as I know.  They had put the Ford Chicane in by the time that the 917 was sorted.

If your in first gear in the Porsche curves your doing something very wrong  Tongue
Surely they would still use a short 1st gear for the few slow corners then space 2nd to 4th to suit the rest of the track. Be a bast getting this off the line or out of the pits!

Don't worry about the abandoned 911, you can drive straight through it!  Shocked

Now now Geoffers we don't condone that type of thing here!  euro only you aliens always find out these things I find  Roll Eyes I made every effort to avoid it on my laps  angel

Maybe I'm not driving it right but I was also looking forward to sliding the GT a bit through corners like tetre rouge and arnage but it's just sluggish  Sad I've got an old footage GT40 DVD and it's being chucked about in fine style with a bit of decent power slide in tighter turns to keep momentum up.
Would reducing lock help?

Sad I'm afraid I am going to go for one of the slower cars tomorrow night, it's the only way I can complete a full lap without hitting concrete straw bails or being dropped into the jaws of hell at Arnage.  Will be interesting to see how many survive the first lap as the slightest mistake is severely punished here. winkiss

this 60's layout would make for a good future 60's GT class race, using the Fezzas, vettes and E-types etc.  Cool

But do think we would have been better off using the VLM 70 for these GT40's.  Undecided  oh well, will hopefully be a challenge without too much carnage or retirements !  Lips Sealed

Oh I didn't drive through it on purpose, like you I was making every effort to avoid it, but on (one of) the laps I got it wrong I couldn't avoid it & was bracing myself for the crash & heypresto a ghost 911! Actually on the (well, my) correct line through the corner you should comfortably miss it.

Don't know about reducing the lock, I always use max lock & 100% steering sensitivity, otherwise I find all the cars a bit unresponsive. But that is just personal preference. I did find that lowering the tyre pressures helped, particularly the fronts which seemed far too high on default. Apart from that I guess its just a matter of playing with the brake bias & diff settings as little else is adjustable.
I'm sure the real aliens (Italians & John!) will get under 3.30 with it but I still can't better 3.33.

Reminder: We are not using either of the VLM versions because the GT40s and even more so
the Vette take off in an uncontrollable way over the hump before Mulsanne corner
True you can slow down, but in the heat of battle peple will likely push the limit and there
would likely to be an almightly crash fest on the 1st or 2nd lap.
This 60 version has "features"
1: It's quite narrow, in my quick test I could stay on one half of the road easy enough
so I don't see it as an issue.
2: There are no barriers/fences to stop you leaving the circuit at some places, anyone who
goes down a hole in the space time continuum probably made an error so it's their fault
rather than being an inocent bystander in someone elses error at Mulsanne.
3: This is what happens when anarchy rules, and you all vote for a track that doesn't go through
the normal test methods  Grin

Cool and perfect for this race - footage: Cool

GT40 at Le Mans '69 onboard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmA01dUhdPY

take note of his commentary:-  "any car ahead within 200m that makes a change of direction you are most likely going to hit! as you cannot stop in time" - so no unnecessary moving around guys!

Also liked " we have to stop from 200+mph down to 30mph within 300m at the end of the Mulsanne"   Shocked  Try doing that in the race and stopping in time!  laugh

and theres this:-

I'm downloading the files as I type Smiley and as for TBR, well I'm not sure whether I'll carry on with it, just can't figure out how to quit in the team section here!

Gotta say that if you enjoy these cars then you really ought to fire up GT Legends and see what Tony has lined up for us next season  Cool You can even transfer your PnG ffb settings to make GTL feel better than ever and if you don't already own a copy of GTL, it's now available cheaply on Steam.

Details of the season are here......
