I just can't spend hours testing cars anymore next year,
If you need some ideas of which cars are comparible with which Matt, take a look at the groupings we used earlier this year for the GC P&G races. Plenty of match-ups available there. http://www.gamers-crib.com/forum/showpost.php?p=193703&postcount=1

Thanks Geoffers, yep I tried to use those lists originally, but the groupings are so wide for what I was trying to do, that they didn't help much. I was trying to get closely matched cars at particular tracks, but at other tracks my well matched cars were not matched any more It's a good check list to start with though I agree.

How about a series, where you had to choose your car at the beginning of the series and then stick with it for the whole season?
Perhaps you could pick a car from a list of 10 reasonably matched cars. If the tracks are very different, the best suited car will most likely change from race to race.
That would make the outcome of the race and the series less predictable, and it would give us the chance to specialise in a certain car.
Imagine if some of the aliens made a poor choice of car,at the beginning of the series and would then have to struggle very hard in most races in order to be competitive. It just might be fun for them too!

I like that if it results in people taking different cars. I suspect that most people will take the best all rounder, like an RSR3.0. dunno, could be worth a try.
I liked the old Legzy Dollars where you have a budget to spend and have to use slower cars as well or you run out of "Dollars" I also like Tony's system of 3 or 4 drives per make. Those things require me administering them but, that might be less time than testing cars at each track as I have to do for some series now.

There's been a GTL series at nogrip for the last few years that has been doing this, and it really gives you a chance to get to know a car and develop a setup for it over the course of the season. It makes it much more rewarding in my opinion, but I suspect Stig and I are in the minority How about stick with a single car, but have championship table based weight penalties to close it up a bit (more admin effort required though).

LOL Fat chance! That's why they are aliens! But I endorse the idea. With a range of tracks there will be a range of best cars to be in. People joining half way through could be a pain unless the track types were to be well mixed up throughout. Could do with knowing the tracks before we start and any obvious "all rounders" should just be left out of this series. Thimple!

Picking & sticking with one car for one of two/three/four series could make a nice change. In UKGTR2 we do that & you can (if you want) have one free change of car (a 2nd change costs points). In fairness, I don't attend so much these days as I don't get the same enjoyment from the more modern cars that seem to be the preference now. So your better matching the wants of the regulars than me, I'll just show up when I'm sucked in by the combo of the night anyway

It makes it much more rewarding in my opinion, but I suspect Stig and I are in the minority I have taken part in the NG series John talks about, but whilst being really keen on the idea at times, I have also found myself getting bored with driving the same car all the time. I would prefer to have a choice of maybe 5 or 6 cars & limiting the number of times you can drive each one. If we are having the LCC series again (which I hope we do), maybe we could extend the number of drivers who have to drive the slower car to 5 or 6 & have the difference between the cars a little greater to give the slower drivers more of a chance to be near the front. I suspect this race will be more like that, I'm nearly 4s slower in the 1600 Alfa than the 2000 GTAm. You are doing a great job Matt, whatever you decide upon, I will be there.

You are obviously too quick in the 2000! I saw Federico at about the 1:57 mark so you must be doing low 1:53s in the 2000. It's about two seconds difference for me in race trim and I haven't seen a 1:54 yet!

Helpful words guys I was wanting to do the LCC again next year, It seems to produce some good racing, as the faster guys have to work harder to win, and sometimes have to mix it with lesser mortals like me And it's very easy to do, I pick a track I think suits the cars, and then pick cars that are around 1 or 2 secs different, ideally a different variant of the same model. I try not to make it too different as that might put people off, but the intent is that the same people might win, but not easily.

Actually we raced the 2000GTAm here at NG a few weeks back & my best then was 1.53.9.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Probably because the game crashed when it switched over from quali so I didn't get to race You're being too modest by the way - the lapstats thingy at GC says you did a 53.4 in quali I can't make it tonight but I'll have to see if it saved a quali replay for the soggies, should have a setup as well

Jumped the start and had to do a stop and go :-((
Still, it was a fun race, caught up with the back of the grid just when everybody was starting to loose grip. What happened to you Matt, I saw you had to pit as well?

I hope not. I'm not as quick as you lot but I'm for ever being handicapped along with the aliens when what I need is a split between me and them! It is difficult to gauge because at the start of a season you never know what the field is going to consist of. I suspect this race will be more like that, I'm nearly 4s slower in the 1600 Alfa than the 2000 GTAm.
From the results it looks as though that was down to your being in the wrong 1600 Alfa. Federico seems to have found a quick one that even PnG doesn't know about! You are doing a great job Matt, whatever you decide upon, I will be there. Agreed! St JoviteStrangely enough, I enjoyed tonight's gallop. I enjoyed having a faster car than Geoffers and Federico too! Evil gave me a fright by closing to within 1.5 seconds but then, thankfully, he dropped back a bit after a while. Dan was a bit feisty at the start too. John sent SBRC his setup but I didn't use it in the end. It was too close to the race to start changing the way that I was driving and it seemed to be heavier on front tyres than my original setup. I was faster in off-line practice than in the actual race or qually and don't have a clue as to why. Congrats to Evil and to Federico for his great result in the 1600.
