Well... That was a bit of a stinker of a drive on my part. CanAm '71's aren't the easiest to tame and here at Brands, I feared for my fortunes. Qualifying went OK with a new personal best in the Porsche...clearly the right car for the job here...and the early laps were clicking off well despite being mightily confused, confounded and not just a little annoyed to be shown a white flag at most marshal posts. What on Earth was going on with that? I know that I wasn't on pace with the leaders but c'mon now. I wasn't that slow. Lap08 found me chasing Alain coming off Bottom Bend where I carelessly let the P917 drift wide to the right and catch the grass verge. The Porsche lost all grip and spun directly in front of Pete's Ferrari but thankfully, he was able to glide past without incident. I took a gander with my 'Look Left' button and saw approaching cars so was obliged to wait til both Evil Clive and Ricky were through safely. All-in-all, this gaffe cost me three places and about 15 seconds. Grrr... The grief wasn't over as only two laps later, I looped it coming off Paddock to cost me an additional six seconds. Sigh... The lap at Brands doesn't allow for much in way of taking a breather and I expected 32 laps here to be a task. I took a sip of water a couple of times on way down to Hawthorn Bend but time was so short that I didn't even have a chance to swallow til I got up onto the Portobello Straight. Ultimately engaged Pete in a close duel with laps ticking down never more than a second or so off his tail. Comes Lap26 and the ever-dangerous Paddock Hill Bend bit me a second time with a slight miscue on the exit that sent the P917 careening into a haybale. Game over. Greg had a ring-side seat for this just a short distance behind and in position to put me a lap down in short order. Greg a fine win in his Porsche. Phil a splendid run in the McLaren for P2. Tom a solid P3. Well done, chaps!

A fairly handy result considering. No dramas whatsoever save for the first lap getting off the grid and down in Lesmo1. Bobbie_B started directly ahead of me in his BRM having put down a fine effort in qualifying but somehow, he missed the drop of the green. I pulled right and surged by without issues and ran gingerly down to the Curva Grande. There, I expected trouble but thankfully, everyone got through OK despite some pushing and shoving. I arrived at Lesmo1 with a Ferrari...Fulvio's...close behind and when it jigged to the right on approach and out of my mirror FOV, I thought, 'Oh, please, no. This never works.' I took a quick peek with my 'Look Right' button and saw that Fulvio was off in the grass and in some difficulty. I could see that as the road started to curve to the right that Fulvio was going to shoot straight over the curb and directly into my flank. I made sure to slow considerably and keep far left in hopes of avoiding a collision. Somewhat surprisingly, this worked out as Fulvio did, indeed, appear and shot straight over to the far side of the roadway. I saw a gap open up behind him and made for it only to see his Ferrari start to loop to the right directly in front of me. I slowed again in hopes of missing the red car but only just clipped its tail. Luckily, my Brabham remained straight and true to the roadway and I was able to pull away. Sadly, many trailing me had grief including Jonny O'. This incident left me some seconds down on the group ahead and I had no chance to catch the slipstream. I did, at least, have a decent cushion to my pursuers and gradually edged away settling into p07. Lap15 and developments as Maurice & Syd collide at the Curva Grande with Syd a DNF and Maurice seriously delayed. Up to p05 now and that's how the race fleshed out. We had three Lotus 49's and four Eagle T1G's take the green here. Come Casablanca, I think we can expect to see a lot of BRM's and Hondas in the pack. TY for hosting. Good to be back for S43.

So sorry to learn that some are still having troubles with Blandford. Stick with it, chaps! She's a great ride!
Good fun dashing about in the Streamliner Merc. I was initially going to give the Connie a run but binned it in favour of the fendered beast. More of a lark than any hopes of challenging for a win. It was fun!
Got into a good scrap with Martin but ran out of gas. Not the car. Me. Extreme fatigue overcame me and I pitted for a breather. Pulled up to my placard and it vanished. After a short rest, I intended to resume but was unaccountably booted. Quite surprised and alarmed at that.
Thanks for hosting!

Good fun on a very difficult circuit. Many bemoan the serpentine at Mexico yet applaud the uphill twists here at Suzuka. Can't say why one gets the nod over the other. Nice job by Phil to score P2. Blue Moose mate, Evil Clive, nails down P3. Great stuff, chaps! Tom aced me for P4 mid-race with a dynamite pass going into the 130R and there was nothing I could do to counter-attack. He just edged away to a solid finish. Earlier, I was under assault from Andreas and a slip on braking on Lap05 for the hairpin had me slide by the apex and in rounding the corner on a wide line, made contact with AG's RR tyre. Poor Andreas did a 360° spin but was able to continue. Sorry, AG. Late in the going, Andreas charged back and was clearly making it known that he wanted the place back coming within 3/10 of doing so. Nice recovery, AG. Kinda sad to see the 'On Track' laps stat. Seems only Tom and I were the only ones to make an effort to negotiate the chicane properly and even then, at barely 60%. Thanks to Billy for organizing the series! It's been FUN!

WOOHOO! Evil Clive scores again! Blue Moose on a roll. Nice job by Pete for a solid P2. Fulvio rewarded with P3 after a fine punch-up with Tom. Well done, fellas. Rather humbled by my performance. I've raced the BT20 a number of times over the years and fully expected to be right up on the point for pace. Reality sets in and I can do no better than P9 in qualifying. Hmmm... Going to be a long day... Off the grid, I at least managed to ace Tom for a place but then got caught up in the jam down at Ascari to clip Phil and spin off. Rejoined well down but got back on the beam and over the next laps, managed to pick up some positions as others fell victim to assorted traps. By Lap05, I was already back up to P7 but then got biffed in the bum by DC to spend some time out behind some haybales. Took a while to get straight but resumed for a second time. My race being best described as yo-yo to this point; up-down-up-down. Again, some more misfortune for others up ahead gifted me P6 by Lap11 and I was hopeful of maintaining that despite being targeted by Clive Loynes and Phil. Clive fell off late on but Phil was giving me fits up to the last lap when he nailed me on braking for the hairpin. Grrr... Had to settle for a P7 finish which, all things considered, was lucky. Thanks to the club for hosting and to Billy for organizing. It's proving fun indeed.

Great job for the win, Pete!
A mad scramble for the other podium honours with Evil Clive, Tom and Phil having a roaring punch-up. Phil just short of that last step. Good show, fellas!
My Ferrari with wings zeroed off was a challenge but workable. The sweepers cost a lot of time and the straights aren't long enough for any lasting advantage. No wings? Policy is policy.
Only made one gaffe losing the car on braking for T3 and going for ride over the berm. Lucky to have been able to continue. Must make a brake bias adjustment there.
Not at all a bad drive all things considered.
Enjoying the series thus far.
