Title: GTR Lobby problems
Post by: will16v on July 25, 2006, 01:01:05 PM +0100
Hi, i was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this...

I logged on to GTR on Sunday to take part in the Endurance event, and to my horror (it was nasty - i had bargained with the mrs to do some decorating in exchange to spend the evening racing) there were no servers, no drivers, or anything in the Lobby.
I tried GTL and this worked fine.
Tried GTR again and still no other servers/drivers - does anyone know what the problem is?

I can see that most others managed to join and race on sunday - could this be a problem with my firewall? Only thing is, all was well untill this happend on  sunday... ???

1 final thing, whenevr i start GTL or GTR, my router seems to disconnect, and i have to nearly always ctrl alt dlt/task manager, and start up my router again - is this a problem with GTR/GTL?

I never have any of this when logging on to any other game/program online...

Did you perchance happen to see whether you were in the main or backup lobby? The GTR Lobby server is notoriously unreliable. :(

Either way though, the router shouldn't reboot :o

Is the router a software thing?

Could be a software thing  - i will try an to re-install drivers...

GTR lobby was main lobby deffo - not back up.

just for my information, how does one know if they are in the back up lobby?

my method was always 'ahh only a few servers, must be the backup lobby'

but is there another way?

When you first arrive at the screen it says "welcome to the GTR lobby" or "welcome to the backup lobby" (or something like that) in the chat box in the lower right of the screen.

Well i only get 'welcome to GTR online' - i tried again for the sprint race tonight - but same thing - no servers ???
Checked ports, checked router, checked firewall - all ok, all other games including GTL ok - is there anything else i can check?

Lobby seems fine for me. I just wish it didn't keep putting me in stupid chat channels.

Are you sure the router isn't blocking, try disabling the firewall on router. I have this problem with BF2, till i turned off router firewall.

Well, after hours of trying, i still can't get online with GTR.
All i get in the lobby is 'Welcome to GTR Online'  - no drivers, no servers.
I have de-installed router, re-installed it again with software
De-installed GTR and re-installed it again
I have checked the ports on my firewall (Black Ice & Windows Firewall running)
Checked the router security etc - all ok and as it was before when GTR connected online.

All other games and applications are working as they should online (BF2, GT Legends etc).

Does anyone have any idea why i can't log onto the GTR Lobby?
Is anyone having the same problem?

Is there a specific file in the GTR program files on my Hard Drive, which will tell me the specified IP address thegame should or is connecting to, and check?

Is there a god?

Why does this always happen to me?

Thankyou for listening

What happens when you turn off all your firewalls and try to connect?

IIRC there are several ports used just for outbound packets alone : 2 tcp ports needed as well as a (possibly dynamic) udp port.

Had this problem on TPG with two brothers that connected from the same house one could get on the other could not. After a few hours on MSN we worked it out to the routers firewall (more he did im uesless with PC).

What I have done to get it working is just forward the ports for both the tcp and udp protocols. Doesn't matter anyway. You should only close it for security reasons :)

Don't forget to open the appropriate ports in your router firewall by the way. If the firewall is enabled it's likely that all ports except the widely used ones (21, 80, 110) are blocked by default. That's what my router does anyway :)

I'm having trouble myself, getting the same as you - no servers no people etc.

I have changed router/ISP/house! since the last time i had it working, so i'm not sure where to start?

I have forwarded the ports on my router (GTL works fine, does it use the same ports?) turned off windows firewall although the game is still listed as an exception in its list.

I have no other software firewalls or anything?

Any help?

Panic over got it working.

A bit of digging found i had added an IP to my hosts file for simbin ages ago, and this had now changed.

I've noticed that GTR seems to have been in the backup lobby for quite some time now, surely this must mean it has made way for GTR2 which must be currently running through some tests in the "main lobby"

I wonder if the rumoured GTR 1.6 patch will indeed remove the need (and support) for the lobby?
