In GTL I seem fated to finally get to grips with a car set just as the series comes to an end
I posted about the small issue with the Izusu on the server and that was the only pre race practice that I had done, probably about 10 laps max in each of the 3 cars. My intention was more about learning the track ( which I thought that we had run before, but I was wrong about that ) than maximising the cars.
After the trial 10 laps, each of the cars was returning something around the low 1:10's so I figured that at least I was consistant if not all that quick. I anticipated the usual suspects to be lapping in the 1:09's, possibly 1:08's?, but with a few tweaks to the setups I did feel more comfortable in all cars than I had in previous races.
I was surprised to be so competitive ( although Geoffers might have brought some reality to the situation ) and despite a few mistakes in each race I was mostly in contention.
Race 1 was odd as I find the Mazda a little tricky to harness, but I appeared to have a 0.5sec advantage on the straight which allowed me to gain a buffer on each lap until I could relax a little.
Race 2 with the Bellet was going to be the toughest as I had expected, and maybe if I had not hit the kerb hard at the Esses and rolled the car I might even have finished nearer the front. As it happens I threw a 3rd place in the Bellet anyaway within sight of the flag, when I hooked a wheel onto the kerb and went rallycrossing allowing Tony to reclaim that place after I had risked everything to catch and pass him.
Race 3 and my favourite of the 3 cars, the Toyota. I'm sorry guys, but I had a huge grin on my face after the hairpin on lap 1. I pulled off an Alonso style move around the outside and picked off 2 places
After that I hunted down Matt and took the chance when it presented itself and eased away.
I am rather curious as to why so many cars went into the pits in the final race?
For many laps I was actually wondering if we were all supposed to make a pitstop
But all was OK with my car so I plugged on and was left with a comfortable win.
