1711  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 13 - Snetterton - Dec 23 on: December 23, 2013, 10:32:11 PM +0000
Thanks for a nice, clean race guys.  It was great to be back in GTL; I now realise how much I've missed it.. Smiley

Sorry I dropped out as the first race was about to start.  Computer crashed.  It's a very intermittent and very annoying problem that's plagued me for a while now.  Seemingly without pattern, I suddenly get a black screen, or some random pattern, and the computer hangs.  Win7 reliability index describes it as 'hardware error in video', when it catches it, which is not every time.  It probably points to the video card, but could conceivably also be the motherboard.  Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new video card for starters, so must read up on current offerings.

Thankfully managed to get through race 2.  Made one of my usual slow starts, so Tony got alongside, but I had the inside line for T1.  He passed me on the inside as I braked for T2, but promptly outbraked himself  Smiley, so I could dive inside him and regain the position.

Then for most of the race, I had a grand stand view of the battle for second between Postal and Goldtop, while I tried desperately to hang on.  Managed to keep the gap within 2 secs for most of the race, but it did widen a bit in the last laps.  Fairly quickly got a good gap to 5th place, so not really under pressure during the race, except for trying to keep up with the boys in front.

Hope to see you all again next year.  Merry Christmas and Happy Newyear all - and my very best wishes for your dad Tony.

Cheers,
Erling

Hi Erling. Sounds like you need to re-register to connect to the lobby. Select "Register" and then put in a new username and new password (your race name will still be the same as it just changes your name in the lobby). Then you need to log in using your new username and password and you should see our server in the lobby.

You might have to repeat the process a couple of times before it works, but I think that should do it.

Thanks Goldtop and Tony - that was it and I'm now on the server!  Smiley

Erling

You will probably find that your GTL takes you to the Altbierbude lobby, where we used to race.

See if you can find a file under your main GTL folder called LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT

Open it using Notepad or similar. The content of this file should read thus

gtlsrv.race-game.com

Thanks Tony.

The lobby file contained an IP address: 91.121.7.48

I've changed it as per your instructions, but can't seem to get a server list.  In the logon screen, I select 'Internet' and use the same username/password as before, but get an 'Invalid user/password'.  However, if I try to register with the same combo, I get a 'User already exists' error.  Huh

Have tried the LAN /direct IP option too, but find no servers there.

Should it be possible to connect presently, or only once the practice session starts ?

Erling
1714  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 13 - Snetterton - Dec 23 on: December 23, 2013, 09:34:47 AM +0000
Hi Erling, no pitstops and times are GMT. Geez it's been a few years since you ran with us mate. Things have changed a lot in GTL and our grid size has shrunk a lot. Please try to join online before the race so we can help if there's a problem, ok? BTW were on the Simbin lobby nowadays. If you see SimRacing.org.uk Mondays in the lobby your in the right place.

Thanks Tony.

Yes, it's scary how time flies past.   It's ages since I've been online in GTL, so I'll try during the afternoon - hopefully that should leave time to fix eventual problems.

Regards,
Erling

Hello all,

Would like to take part in this race (Thanks to Bill for the heads up).

Been wanting to get back into GTL racing for some time, so this could be a good test to see how far off the pace I've fallen. Shocked

Tony, sorry to hear about your dad; I hope he gets better.

Regarding the race; is it correctly assumed that there's no mandatory pitstops, and that times mentioned are GMT ?

On-line handle will be 'Coyote' as before.

Erling

Race over before it began unfortunately.

Got a light tap on the right rear under braking for T1, which sent me on a wider line through the corner and into contact with Ginster's Corvette.  Lost control of the car at this and careened off track into barrier.  Apologies to those collected in the process or otherwise involved in the chain reaction.  Car damaged; pulling right and not willing to turn either way anymore, so left as I didn't feel like fighting it over the next 29 laps, and risk more incidents due to it's less predictable handling.

Erling

Nice track tbh, bit like goodwood, very fast! Does anyone have any times? No-grip show a low 1.18 in the pants terror any others, still learning the track and am down to a low 1.20 atm.

Typical lap after some practice is in the 1:20 - 1:21 bracket.  Fastest yet is 1:19.89. Car is 906.

Erling

Thanks guys,

Have the track already, as I've been trying to help Bill with a gearing problem.

Forgot to check if the fuel capacity is enough for the full race, or if a pitstop is required.  If one is required; are there any rules about what must be done - i.e. tyre change mandatory etc. ?

Also, I take it the times specified are GMT ?

Will the server be up before Thursday ? (Would like to check connection before it's 'for real')

Sorry about all the questions; just trying not to screw up my first outing with you guys too much...  Grin

Cheers,
Erling

Hello all,

This is my first post.  Found my way here after a bit of nudging by Bill Thomas  Smiley

Have raced GTL with GBGTL for about 1½-2 years, but we presently have a bit of a lull, so I'm getting withdrawals...

Would like to participate in this race if possible; driving a Porsche 906.  As far as I can determine, there's a skinpack I need to download ?

Lobby and race name will be 'Coyote'.

Cheers,
Erling
