Season 29 - Friday Sports Car Trophy - Round 20 - Le Mans Night

The final round of the Friday Sports Car series is on the classic Sports Car track, the Le Mans circuit, we use the nbsarthe version.
Most famous race in the world is probably the 24hours at Le Mans. It has also hosted several Grand Prix including the first ever - the French Grand Prix of 1906. The Grand Prix name ("Great Prize") referred to the prize of 45,000 French francs to the race winner. The franc was pegged to the gold at 0.290 grams per franc, which meant that the prize was worth 13 kg of gold!

In S29 we will race F2 and Sport Car mods alternating.
This Trophy is intented as a fun series, so keep the fairness high and respect drivers with different skills.  ;)

Handicapping:
Heavies - have allways free car choice.
Lights   -  each F2 car can be used only once! Only one GT can be used twice!
Any illegal use of a car will be a DQ! So make shure you have a plan  :thumbup1:

Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.
ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps.

Please check the Season 29 pages for details (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=508&theme=6) regarding rules and the Friday Trophy (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=515&theme=6) pages in particular.

GLA and have FUN

WOW!  Fully 26 laps of the night-version of the full circuit!  I'd better take along a trucker's friend.  ;)

 ;D

It's been a long time since I ran 28 laps at Lemans. I used to do it regularly before racing online.

I might need one of those things some day soon. I recently bought a Nissan Sentra that gets 40+ mpg. With it's 12+ gallon fuel tank. My bladder has a hard time out lasting my fuel now. :)

Race starts, there's a knock on my door. "Busy!! Come back in hour!" (muffled reply)

5 mins later: knock knock. "BUSY!!!!! COME BACK IN AN HOUR!!!" (muffled reply)

5 mins later: knock knock. "PISS OFF!!! I'M BUSY!!!!" (muffled reply)

2 mins later: knock knock. Distraction contributes to spin in front of Tom (sry about that). "**** OFF!!! COME BACK LATER!!" (muffled reply)

3 mins later: knock knock, and spin into trees at Hunaudieres, ending the remote chance of catching anyone ahead, and any chance of having fun wrestling an uncooperative slug around for another 35 minutes. So **** this, go answer door. "Uh wanna come drinking with us for St. Pats?"

1) I don't drink often, and hate bars that have "music" so loud you can't hear yourself think, let alone carry on a conversation. Ya know, being SOCIAL???

2) I have a serious hate-on for anything remotely religious-influenced or originated, so yeah I really want to go "celebrate" some fictitious asshole from 1500 years ago.

3) Aren't we finally catching on, as a society, that cultural mis-appropriation is ignorant and offensive (see the shitstorm over "sexy squaw" Halloween costumes, etc.), especially when the sole object of the exercise is to see how much green puke we can generate?

/rant

Hope others have some fun, and grats on championship, Axel.

... Distraction contributes to spin in front of Tom (sry about that)...

No worries Dean, didn't hurt my chances.

Turns out I'd already used the big Fords, so I had to make do with a private Lola kindly offered by Mike de Udy. It ran well after some rollbar adjustments, but I was more than 5 seconds off the pace compared to the big boys. I managed to hang on during the initial stages of the race, but soon dropped back. After Dean caught me but retired soon after, I was driving a lonely race, trying to find the limits of the Lola in the mean time. I did manage to keep Doni behind me which was satisfying. Towards the end of the race I encountered Greg who'd beached his Ford at the hairpin. He managed to break loose but ended up one lap short of catching me. So I got to go to the podium after all :D .

Grats Mark and Cookie, and all finishers!

Tommie.

I had to try the MK2B as it's the 50th anniversary of Bruce and Chris at Le Mans.  Despite obv being down on top speed it handled pretty well.  The plan was to draft Axel but after he went off Dean, Greg and me in 2B's had a gap.  Dean spun off unfortunately but Greg and me started drafting each other down the straight which was enough to be able to keep the gap back to Axel.  We kept this up until about 4 laps to go, then I figured it was time to start racing with Greg - and then he had an oopsie at Mulsanne as well.  Terrific fun guys, thanks.

Grats Mark to the win, great performance!

I wasn't happy with my pace, as I seem to have forgotten how to properly setup a GT ::)
Taking an old setup did help a little...
Seems driving mostly the open wheelers does influence my SC feeling :-[

Thanks to all participants for a great FUN series.

Hola everyone!!

i think this race has been my worst race ever.  :(
After i could not stop the car at "Mulsanne" in the 1st lap, trying to get back on track i hit some one, not sure who it was, apologies  :-[  i went back to the track but, the wrong way. (never happened to me before, felt like an idiot)  :(  and start to notice that something was wrong when i was waiting for a right turn but it was a left turn, everybody showing me a yellow flag and pribluda numbers turning all red. I stop the car, make a u turn and try to finish the race but a went out at "Indianapolis" and the car went up side down.

Apologies to everyone. Im glad it was on this long track, less likely that i would of crash with some one.

Grats Mark for wining the race! and Axel for the championship!!!!  :)

I made a similar mistake at Nurburgring one time during qualifying. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

I reinstalled the GT mod and did a few test laps, and everything is working great. I was home about 15 minutes too late to join the race this time though. Since it has been a while since I hopped in a GT car at Le Mans, I noticed that my depth perception is not that great in these cars at this track. On the positive side, I have missed the way the car can get sideways on the approach to a corner or on the exit without loss of control (Chap 2F).
