Title: UKGPL Season 36 (2020) 1967 F1 Junior - Bathurst - Mar 15

Season 36 1967F1 – Round 5 –  Mount Panorama- Juniors

Season 36 is a joint series between GPL Brazil and UKGPL. This post is for the Junior division.
For Round 3 we visit Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit Bathurst a motor racing track located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. It is best known as the home of the Bathurst 12 Hour motor race, held each February, and the Bathurst 1000 motor race, held each October. The track is 6.213 km (4 mi) long, and is technically a street circuit, as the circuit is a public road when no racing events are being run, and there are many residences which can only be accessed from the circuit. The track is an unusual design by modern standards, with a 174-metre (570-foot) vertical difference between its highest and lowest points, and grades as steep as 1:6.13. From the start-finish line, the track can be viewed in three sections; the short pit straight and then a tight left turn into the long, steep Mountain straight; the tight, narrow section across the top of the mountain itself; and then the long, downhill section of Conrod Straight, and the turn back onto pit straight to complete the lap.

Impressed by the lack of speed on the streght, with my cooper, in comparison with others.
Anyway a race finished.

well done Francesco,  A finish is more fun than another engine explosion.

I had a fair race.  finished without being lapped.. thats a good thing in my book

Had lots of great laps with David Sochenna.. we had some really great clean laps.  only spoiled for me by my lack of concentration so I and had a spin or two, but nothing to spoil anyone elses fun tonight.

the laps with David were GPL at its best..  brilliant fun.  lovely clean driving David. I just didnt have enough speed to attempt a pass even in the Lotus. So stayed where I was.

was hoping the little bit of pressure I could muster may have caused David to make a mistake, but his driving was rock solid.

would have though the Lotus might have had the speed to pass on the straights, but the Ferrari is a deceptively fast car.

I hope it was a good race for everyone else.

Paul.

Unlucky Eric, you would have at least finished second for sure.

For me, I had a bit more luck. However I did have my fair share of misfortune. I was following you and Pepe on about lap 6 when Pepe made a mistake at Forrest's Elbow and I had to jump on the brakes to avoid him. Unfortunately I braked too hard, spun, rolled backwards up the bank and very gently toppled over. So I had to do a reset and S&G which put me almost dead last.

It was fun fighting back through the field. I had to push hard but only over did it once (at The Cutting where I did a 360). I recovered in time to stay ahead of Bill without getting in his way too much. I hadn't left the track so it wasn't a re-join, I just had to get going and out of the way ASAP. It was quite hard getting past the Ferraris, they were very quick on the straights.

I haven't seen the replay but I have a fear that I made contact with someone on the first lap and possibly ruined his race. If I did and if it was my fault, I am terribly sorry.

With a Ferrari and experience at this track from a race oAo held here last year, I had pretty high expectations of success. I qualified 5th and at the green flag jumped two places, following Axel and Eric for a few laps. For the final 45 minutes I did everything I could except rob a bank to keep a place on the podium but lost it by 0.08 seconds when my poor car began to run out of fuel on the final hill climb to the finish line. Idiot, moi.

Still, this was some great racing, exactly what happens when you give a turtle like me a fast car and then put some faster drivers behind him. I can't even begin to imagine the frustration those poor guys must have felt tonight.  :)

That was a lot more exciting than expected!

I managed to take some places due to misfortune elsewhere (as well a good tow down the hill!)  but knew they were only borrowed positions; the rightful owners would want them back soon enough :)

Good going by Axel & Phil.
I thought it was Phil upside down as I 'gracefully swept' around the wreckage at one of the hazard-holes.
Was quite some comeback from the resulting position back there.

A group of us had some close running in the latter stages; which was very entertaining.
Nice one chaps;  good race.

I expect the Seniors had their own moments of course, but we've provided some racing enjoyment in Australia today.

Cheers,
Dave.

From start to finish, it was a great battle with Dave C., Pepe, and Andreas at the end but very frustrating race for me as I felt quicker in the twisty parts before the long straight but very slow in this straight and unable to follow Pepe or Dave.
Probably, a bad setup for this kind of track.

I was waiting for incidents to slow down other pilots, they happened and I think I was 2nd during half a lap ...just before I made several mistakes.

Now we are approaching mid-season, it is probably a good time to acquaint the drivers who are new to UKGPL to some of the rules and guidelines we have on our website. I didn't want to do this too early in case it put people off, there is a lot to read if English is not your first language.

Everything is accessible via the "Navigation" pane on the top left corner of the homepage (https://www.ukgpl.com/).

The rules pages are here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/intro).

Penalty guidelines are here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/penalties). These guidelines are intended to ensure we are consistent when making judgments about incidents.

Some penalty guidelines have detailed examples, see here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/side_by_side_simple_4_a).

There is some advice on driving etiquette (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/etiquette). With some recommendations (https://www.ukgpl.com/rec_dvr_beh/rec_driver_beh.htm) and a detailed description about the use of mirrors (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/overlap).

Most of the time drivers are very considerate but occasionally mistakes are made and incidents do occur. To prevent arguments on the forum, UKGPL uses an incident reporting system to allow the moderators to arbitrate and where necessary award penalties or offer advice.  We do this using the court system. Instructions on how to submit incident reports is here (https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/moderating/court).

Please be assured, the purpose of the court system is not to be overly draconian. The objective at UKGPL is to have fun but that can only be achieved if we all drive responsibly and with due consideration for others. The court system allows the moderators to review incidents in a fair and objective manner so we can all learn from them. The moderators will where appropriate, enforce the rules and where necessary revise the rules to improve the driving experience for everyone.
