Just done a few laps earlier to see what its like and i cant wait now! 997 seems to be quite nice around here, best i've managed so far after 30mins was a 59.7 which surprisingly is only a second off the race pace record.

Chuffed that after tonight's practice I currently hold Team Oldie bragging rights here with my race setup 1:59.3 :D
I hardly mentioned it on Team Speak  :whistling:

Looks like I might have to concede to being runner up in this race to my more experienced and older team mates ;D
The BMW M3 is a bit of a handle full at this circuit, I just can't seem to get any drive out of the corners without the back end stepping out all the time ??? So far I've managed a 1:59.9 in quali trim...but overall I average about 2:00.5.

At last I am raguely competitive! for me!  ;D
Oh and I didn't use a Legzy set up either!  ;D
Looking forward to it!

Congrats on the Win MJ 8) Great Drive at a Drivers Circuit.

Really enjoyed that even though it was really hard work in the 666  Biturbo...Great battle with Matt in his BMW in the first third of the race and then the last third of the Race 8)

Bit of a disaster that. Qualified about 5th from the back and then had a power cut with 8 minutes of Q left. After 5 minutes or so the power came back and I rushed back in just in time to make the race from the back of the grid, minus the setup changes I'd made in qually.

First few laps were okay but eventually the distraction showed as I missed my braking point at turn 1 and spun avoiding ramming the back of Matt Rowe or Smokey or somebody. Drove like a man possessed to try and catch them again but burned up the rears in the process and just as I caught them up rear grip fell away dramatically and I spun again under braking and had to just tip toe round the last few laps to make sure I made it to the finish in one piece. :-\

Was a pretty odd race for me...

Firstly cause I had so much extra speed on the straights compared with the rest of cars. I was on 7 rear wing (not too low) so I guess the difference is on the car. So I was much faster on straight but struggled a LOT on the fast corners, as the guys I fought with today could see.

Also, my speed looked good for the first 2-3 laps but soon I started sliding and I didn't have an easy race. MJ and TT disappeared and I could barely keep their pace. Legzy caught me and I tried to keep him behind but he was all over me in the slow parts of the circuit. When I made a mistake he got past. I tried to take him with 2 corners to the chequered flag but spun and he was back ahead lol great racing mate :)

Grats to the podium!

1st part was worrying, it seemed everyone and their hamsters were faster!
Actually it was just JPS and SMokey, who both passed, JPS had more speed on the straights
and SMokey drove better than I did, and got past after one on my many errors
Got it together more in last half, caught and passed Smokey then caught and worried the
back of JPS 911. Never quite made the pass, but was great fun trying, good drives guys.  :)

Lol, MJ's too tyred to post. Guess I made him sweat a bit.  :D
Grats MJ.  8)  A proper Fezza / Porker battle it was, never a second apart.  :fencing:  With your wobbly exits my biggest concern was not to collect us both and let those ... others win.  :P  Grats on the third, Legzy.  :)

I was a bit surprised with that braking, Purdie. Really didn't think you'd brake that early, good that I was on the right or I would surely hit you. Was that your normal braking point or were you preparing a tight turn in?
A small mistake from from Busi let me pass, then I went for MJ.  >:D

Legends 1st and 2nd, whaddya know!  ;D  Well done, JPS, glad you enjoyed the race.  :)

Well I'm just back from doing a lap of the lounge with my T-Shirt over my head & making a speech thanking my wife (for her patience & support) in honour of my 1st ever podium :jumpjoy:

I shall now be listening to the 'Rocky Theme Tune' before every race, wearing my now 'lucky underpants' & I wont be shaving for some time ;)

I know I only finished third, but that is seriously amazing for me & it was literally only just third!

Spent the first half the race hanging onto the shirt tales of the top four as we opened up a gap back to sixth spot. Finally I started getting involved in the mix, Busi ran wide once & I got passed, but only held him up for a lap before I flashed him through at the end of the back straight where he was blatantly quicker. Busi then got past Purdie who I soon managed to slip past under braking. I got the impression your tyres were already starting to suffer? :-\
Then was doing everything I could to stick with Busi  :sweatdrop:, again my tyres seemed to be holding better then his as I felt I was making up anything I lost on the straights a little quicker through the turns. :-\ Under pressure (I hope) Busi ran wide at a slow left-hander & like a gent flashed me through (thanks), I'm sure he just wanted a break from me snapping at his heals & thought he'd hassle me for a change ;)
Last lap & got to the final (tricky) left-hander, still in third by mere inch's & typical me... I forgot to brake & ran well wide :hang:. Busi slipped through, but was probably shocked by my antics & wobbled as he got the power down, luckily I had recovered well & got straight back past for the final two turns. :2guns:

It was great racing with you Busi, great scrap & some great/patient driving on your part at times, cheers & congrats to MJ & TT
Well back to normal next week I'm sure.

Mmmm, got a bit beaten up !
Had a couple of little incidents, one with Jan, may be? (not seen the replay yet!) and then with Roadrunner later which dropped me from 7th to 12th!
Not impressed but made it back up to 9th in the end.
Had a good short tussle with Simon early on but his pedigree shone through in the end!
and had a great battle with Ade in the Panoz. I was obviously quicker round all the twisty bits but he then powered away from me on the straights.
Great close racing, eventually I managed to just put my nose ahead enough to pinch the place.
Caught Team mate Lazlow in a few more laps and he kindly didn't fight the place too much! Thanks buddy.
Unfortunately, there were just not enough laps left to pass Evert who I was right behind at the finish!
Another 2 laps and it could have been a different story!

Looks like the 430 was better suited to the track this race. Great to be further up the field for a change!

But lastly a big cheer for Team mate Legzy for an excellent performance getting on the podium!

The addition of Lazlow to the Team and Chris' determination to be the 'set up king' has helped drag my performance up a little in GTR2 too. ;D

Look out for Team Oldie in this and future seasons! we're gonna give you guys a run for your money!!  ;D

Go Team Oldie !!

yeehaw !  i was very chuffed to bag another win of the season at another of my fave racing tracks  8)

Couldnt have asked for a sweeter result with Pole position, fastest race lap and the race win
Not bad considering i hadnt done any sim racing since last tuesday due to an urgent contract i bagged !  :o Had done some praccy on friday and squeezed in a quick half hour about an hour before last nights race but i always seem to go well here even if the results dont come my way. My karting pody at the weekend must have fired me up !!  :)

Qually battle was great, i think there were 4 of us seperated by a few hundreths of a second throughout the session :o until Busi did a 1:57:? and that really turned up the pressure. I knew i had managed 1:56's in offline praccy so wasnt about to give up. With about 4.5mins of the session remaining i banged in a 1:57 to grab pole  :) and after seeing a couple of people disco, took the executive decision to sit in my pit box for the remaining 4 minutes rather than risk a ctd as thought i'd rather risk dropping a couple of places than to the back of the grid. It was a nerve wracking 4mins as i watched the 3 nearest chargers, purds, TT and Busi try to steal my laurels. But nobody did !...Pole Position !!  :ninja:

Race was nerve wracking as hell, i hadnt led a race from pole for a very long time (if ever?) and immediately came under heavy pressure from Busi who i assumed would steam past me on the opening lap with his extra horsepower. But i kept leaving him behind through the twisties and my 7 wing negated the horses a little. After several laps, TT got past him and then my troubles really began !
I knew from past duels in praccy on this track that me and TT are very evenly matched in pace around Dubai as we both like its layout and smooth tarmac flow. He then attacked me constantly for the entire duration of the race usually staying only 0.5 secs behind me apart from about 2-3 laps where i gained a small advantage only for him to close again on the following lap.  :fencing: It was intense pressure and i was hoping he would make an error or back off a little as after 10-15mins of racing we had a 12 second advantage over the following pack ! :o
I was also worried about my front left tyre wear and really wanted to ease off a little but TT was having none of it  :sweatdrop:
Dont know what TT means about 'wobbly exits' as i didnt put a foot wrong all race and he only got alongside me once or twice at the end of the long back straight under braking  ??? (And its always easier being the chaser  ;) )
The car got a little understeery in the final few laps as the front left wore out but otherwise the 997 felt superb here and i was very chuffed to bag a win and beat the Ferrari in a straight duel to the finish  :thumbup1:

Congrats to TT for a hard fight and to Legzy for his great podium  :thumbup2:

Just teasing you a bit there.  :P  And you fell for it.  ;D

I did have a bit later braking point but closing the gap doesn't mean overtaking as any aggressive move from me might have had bad consequences and was therefore not a move to make. >:D  You were very stable, MJ and pulled away every time on exit so I didn't really have a chance.  :thumbup1:

P.S. Busi's gonna leave us behind at Road America with all that muscles in his car.  :P

I had another excellent race with lots of battles with other people and managing to actually overtake 5 times from 10th on the grid to finish 5th. 8)

I haven't run any practice in GTR2 for a couple of seasons and it makes it really difficult to have a decent setup or qualifying position. I have to do my best to make up places in the race. I once again qualified mid-field and as usual made some daring setup changes between qualifying and race, e.g. increasing rear anti-roll bar 100% from qualifying up to 50 or 60 and doing a few other things to stop the big lack of steering I have using 900 degress on my G25.

This time my big setup changes worked and I felt the car was probably a second faster than my qualifying time on softs. But as it was hot and Dubai (a usual killer on tyres) I went for medium slicks all-round. This both worked and didn't work. I was able to lap at my qualifying pace on mediums (so it showed my pace on softs would have been about a second quicker), so no faster, but I was able to lap at that speed the entire race. This helped me get 2 more positions in the last few laps as others struggled on their tyres.

I needed a bit less wing (I was on 2-8) as Blunder's identical Fezza was a lot faster on the straights than me which made it hardest to get past him. I think 2-7 would have been better, which would have still been more than him I think but just enough to have that extra little bit.

Well done to Legzy on his podium (I think I should take some credit for that right Legzy? ;) ;)) and well done to those 2 old codgers at the front. I always think Dubai suits both the Porsche and BMW, so was very surprised to see TT manage to set such a good pace in his Ferrari. 8)

UKGTR league racing rocks!

Grats MJ on a flawless race! Deserved it after your recent internet problems CTDs where you've been robbed from some good finishes  ;D

I suprised myself in quali getting 3rd, but in the race I found it hard to keep my concentration. I just do not find Dubai very exhilarating.  I started on med/med and had some good early pace and had some great battles, mainly losing them though lol  :D

I was a bit surprised with that braking, Purdie. Really didn't think you'd brake that early, good that I was on the right or I would surely hit you. Was that your normal braking point or were you preparing a tight turn in?

When was this? Sorry TT I don't remember. If you can remember roughly when I'll check the replay so I can give you an explanation. My tyres were giving way after 20 mins but you were past me by then  :-[

With about 15 mins to run I spun and quit in 9th I think. A bad night all round after racing just before with Roadrunner in BeTCC at Zolder....  ::) Shall i retire for good? hehe

Erm, 1st lap. After getting into your slipstream on a back straight I stayed right. Wanted to scare you, make a pressure, not actualy overtake. Then you started braking and I shot past and normaly made a turn inside of you. Seemed a bit early braking to me, but then it was the first lap, so I don't really know.  :)  Made me flinch a bit is all.  :scared:

TT

P.S. I had 2-8 wing and I could barely follow MJ even in slipstream. You're right, Shark, 2-7 or maybe even 2-6 would be enough.
I had mediums all round. Was thinking of taking rear softs as fronts had 50% more wear, but decided against it as it was a bit too understeary.

Cheers Purds.  :) Not had internet connection probs as such, just the Ctd's in qually sessions like several others have experienced, that dump you at back of grid  :(

TT, i had 2-7 wing last night. Combined with the porkers good traction out of corners, it gave me just enough to stay ahead of you down those straights  :fencing:  I had Hard slicks on the rear to cope with overheating from track temps and the high lateral drags and they stayed fine.  :)

That's what happened for me getting past Purdie at the same place but about 8 laps later. I wasn't looking to overtake, I was more on the right to avoid any risk of going in the back of you & suddenly I was past & away  :o

Well done to Legzy on his podium (I think I should take some credit for that right Legzy? ;) ;))
Sorry Simon, you should have been top of my list for holding everyone up behind me ;) :D
But I did forget to thank Lazlow & Blunder especially. The last minute competitive close racing in practice really helped get my lap times down again & your ongoing "words of encouragement " on teamspeak continue to inspire ;)

I was a little hesitant on my braking last night as I had just jumped out of a WTCC BMW league race and I think I was just conceding my place. I'll check the replay when I get home, maybe I was just crap into that corner  :D

Like you say Busi, you were mega on the straights lol! But it did average out in the corners. Thats the beauty of having loads of different machinery with different traits.....so much nicer not to see a grid of M3 and 996's  ;D

The car pack seems just right, with new lap records being set just over the old ones. Gr racing  :)

When's someone going to create a Group C car pack so we can slip-stream at over 200mph instead of 160mph?

Grr.. wish i'd done that. Didn't think the temps were too high during qually so thought the lower temps would help with mediums allround, but race temp seemed to be higher which killed my tyres and lap times. And sadly through the last two corners of the last lap i barely got the car back under control as the back end just disappeared but Jan managed to outdrag me to the line, how close was that!

Well done Legzy, I just couldnt keep up with you early on and as the tyres got worse i could see Jan and Simon getting nearer.

Disappointed to finish 7th which i would never have said before this season.

Just checked the replay TT and I braked in the same place as Busi, just cautious on cold brakes. MJ braked after and missed the apex. Brakes aren't good on the RSR cold, quite snatchy  :)
