Title: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 06, 2010, 12:42:31 AM +0100 In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!
This is what you do to connect to the server: 1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack) 2) Start GTL & select to the lobby 3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password) 4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers :euro: If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486 But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)). _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All members welcome. Edit-Humyo version works fine for me. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Henry on May 24, 2010, 09:40:12 PM +0100 thx for the fun guys. enjoyed the roadster after a long time again. best car to watch the landscape and feel good.
Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: ginsters sponsored on May 24, 2010, 09:45:55 PM +0100 First off, sorry Oily. Was just getting hang of it before you clattered the tyres, hope it wasn't outta frustration :'(
I gotta say GTL was no longer my fave sim but adding my absolute favourite group of cars has revitalised the old girl. Sitting on a grid of those monsters really makes you misty eyed, just so atmospheric. Of the two cars I tried the Alfa felt more detailed and fun, driving wise. The 512 was also good but a little less lively. For me, the 33 was as good as anything in PnG and that's meant as a big compliment. All work fined here but the Lola does seem unbelievably loud ;) You could argue that they are a little too fast, and I did find it hard to race real close, but I'm sure its possible and I can't wait to give it a go. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: phspok on May 24, 2010, 09:47:17 PM +0100 Nice race, decided to take the Screaming Matra Presse, instead of the Tipo I had been practicing in.
Is "snaky" under braking, it either locks the fronts or spins depending on brake bias, I think somewhere around 52.52845372% front should do it. :D Ran round with Phill for a few waiting for each other as we took turns to fall off  Then went for a few quick ones to see how quick it would go, caught up PR then fell off watching Lappers caught him again and nipped through when he went off. Closing speed of a well driven Tipo on a Matra is immense, either that or Ade forgot the high chicane was there... :whistling: Odd cars to set up, but I think I will like them. I found the Turbonutters odd but came to really enjoy them. EDIT: I have not tried all the cars yet, but so far the Tipo is the easiest to drive. The Matra is kind in corners with a stiff front end, but wanders about the track, and is a pig under braking for me. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: goldtop on May 24, 2010, 10:02:25 PM +0100 What a truly great mod. It felt so immersive that I actually reached for my handbrake when I parked it at race end :D Great sounds too 8)
Qualied 2nd behind Ian and got the jump on everyone off the line, pulling out an early lead. Ian closed in after a few laps and I made my usual mess of the chicane and went off allowing him past. he blasted off into the distance, but then waited for me and we had a good few laps cat and mouse (I was the little squeaky one) ;D I picked up a stop/go after another mess up which spoilt our fun, but I was able to rejoin in 2nd and hold on to the end. Of the cars i tried the Lola and the Matra seemed the easiest and most responsive for me. The Lola is very forgiving which gives a lot of confidence to push harder, unlike the 917 which I think is quicker, but much more difficult to drive. Thanks for putting this together Tony; I didn't experience any problems with the mod and looking forward to our 3hr race at Brands as well as the fun series over at GTLDK. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 24, 2010, 10:05:13 PM +0100 Replay ready but results will be delayed (lots to do when you have new cars on grid).
Ginsters, glad you liked, you certainly seemed to take to them straight off. I will need much more time to adjust to the power. I guess you guys who drive the GTR2's will be more adept at these monsters. Matt, I think that the more you get used to the cars the more they grow on you. Henry, you old romantic ::) If anyone had a problem with the cars tonight please post here. Otherwise thanks again for the great turnout and hopefully some of you will be with us again for next weeks Thruxton meet. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Steve Holmes on May 25, 2010, 10:55:09 AM +0100 If anyone had a problem with the cars tonight please post here. I had a problem with my brain Tony, I thought the race was tonight (Tuesday). <Cue a lot of swearing> What a turnip, I had seen that raceday was changing to Monday at some point but didn't notice this one had. I'd even spent some time getting to know the Alfa round here and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to drive - looks like I just made a lucky choice. Gutted to miss this though, I'm guessing a lot of the races these cars will be used for will be enduros (that I tend to avoid). :( Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: BillThomas on May 25, 2010, 12:27:28 PM +0100 A real "Curate's Egg" of a race.
Good, the cars, they look and sound beautiful, the Alfa seems to suit me (and many others by the look of it) - thanks Tony, look forward to more of these races. Set new PBs in both practice and qualification about 2 secs in each. Bad, forgot, in the heat of the moment at the start, that the tyres have a lot less grip until they warm up - light car and lots of rubber presumeably. Apologies for my first chicane off and back on - didn't see any cut track warnings. After that I settled down and got in 3 laps with a cut track warning (no stop and go instruction) pushing to try and catch PR who, obviously as a result of his car switch, was still feeling his way in the 908 - only being disqualified. I seem to recall a complaint of no stop and go instruction happening before and the recipient being rather annoyed. Bill Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 25, 2010, 12:36:01 PM +0100 Hi Bill, odd about the s&g's as this is a standard track, not a mod so should be rock solid in that respect.
We next get to run these beast's on August bank Holiday and yes it will be Enduro stylee. However for fun blast's you could do no worse than head over to GTKDK on every Friday fortnight. Details are here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7911.msg140291#msg140291) Next season I was going to run a REPLI-race series which would be 1hr long with pit stops. Would sprints be preferred or a mix of both on alternate weeks? It's your call guy's. Unlucky Bill. Race was a bit lonely except when Matt was chasing me and overtaking me. I guess I could kept him behind, Matra was better cornering but my 908 had better acceleration and top speed. Each time Matt got into my rear end, I hold him cornering and then pull away to the next corner. At least that was what I understood. I would like to know if all cars are at the same class, or not. I am not really confortable driving these cars for the moment, very difficult to setup and to be honest, was one of those races that I was looking to the lap counter every lap, waiting for the end...not a good sign...but it is very early to get a definitive opinion. IMO these cars deserve period tracks layout and at least races with pit stops and 50 to 60 mnts races. Btw, I am for creating different classes at every race. Example, a class for Healeys, a class for 320s and so on, with single classification for each class. Just a humble opinion. Congrats to podium and all finishers. Cheers Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: ginsters sponsored on May 25, 2010, 12:56:57 PM +0100 I have no interest in strategy so sprints for me please. Personally, I would like to race at least one sim here where strategy wasn't an element :'(
Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 25, 2010, 01:07:57 PM +0100 OK so we have some differing opinions. Let's consider this, Same circuit over every fortnight, first week is a sprint, second is longer with stops.
Circuits are as close to 1970 versions as I can get and are..... Daytona Sebring Brands Hatch GP Monza Targa Florio substitute Spa Nurburgring Le Mans Watkins Glen Zeltweg Cars in two groups S5.0 and P3.0 which are described on the Brands Hatch August bank holiday announcement Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: ginsters sponsored on May 25, 2010, 01:28:02 PM +0100 Those tracks seem perfect choices for these cars :) I'm not in favour of running the same track two weeks on the trot as variety is the spice and all that. I'd happily take part in the odd enduro so maybe 2 sprints to one enduro is a good comprimise?
Anyways, the 3hr special sounds great :) Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: phspok on May 25, 2010, 05:10:06 PM +0100 August? heck, that's a long way off in UKGTL terms.
What else are we doing apart from readers wives? Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 25, 2010, 06:41:44 PM +0100

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Henry on May 25, 2010, 07:23:42 PM +0100 Targa Florio substitute Long Beach 1979 or Thermalito^^ would be a nice challenge :D Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Alex vV on May 25, 2010, 08:29:11 PM +0100 Wow! What a great car set :o
Earsplittingly loud and extremely fast, oh yeah... The Matra was surprisingly easy to drive if you kept the 'screaming french old lady' well within the car's envelope. Cheated a bit with modern compound tires/gear peddles because I really wanted to race these cars and I had little practice time :-[ Then again, the race was quite demanding. Couldn't blink my eyes because I was afraid I missed the corner and tire wear? I really do not know.... Saw some cars crashing behind me in the first chicane and then tried to haunt PR (was that you? - I really do not know anymore). The it was driving in a bit of a void with some lapping of Henry who was enjoying a leisurely drive through the Italian grapevines. Would have waved but I was hanging on to the steering wheel. 3 hours at Brands? OMG! Thanks Tony for setting this up. These beast really put a smile on my face. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 25, 2010, 11:58:52 PM +0100 Targa Florio substitute Long Beach 1979 or Thermalito^^ would be a nice challenge :D Mmmm Long Beach doesn't have that Mediterranean feel. This league has a long standing friendship with Thermilito, we have raced there many times but still no, not quite what I'm after. Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: phspok on May 26, 2010, 10:34:08 AM +0100 Aintree has that "Mediterranian feel" "La"
Is a classic old track and it's not far from the Sea, ok not as close as Sandyvoort But you get to dodge rocks thrown by bandits just like the real Targa  Not tried our version, but it would be ablast to run there sometimes if it's any good. And I've done part of it for real ;D http://www.matt-rowe.co.uk/motor/vids/AintreeWet60-8.mpg Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Henry on May 26, 2010, 01:04:14 PM +0100 mediterranian feel, hmm. will search for that.
other too great tracks: Monthlery 1966 Clermont-Ferrand :D PS: now you would be grateful for a landscape column in the track list, he? ;D Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 26, 2010, 01:18:53 PM +0100 Not quite Mediterranian but "Coast" presents some Targa aspects I like
Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Geoffers on May 26, 2010, 01:25:51 PM +0100 Takes a bit of learning & could be quite tricky in these cars, but Machwerk would make a good Targa Florio substitute!

Firstly IMO Machwerk is just too German (+ it's as dull as ditchwater and Henry knows my views on it already) and secondly I don't believe TF was actually learnt by it's drivers. It was 3.5 times longer than Nordsleife! But keep those suggestions coming please :thumbup1: Title: Re: UKGTL Season 10 - Imola - May 24 Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 26, 2010, 07:02:58 PM +0100 coast travel http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=11684 Yeah, that's the fellow.
