16  UKAC / UKAC Races / Re: Wednesday Assetto Corsa Fun - 1st October 2014 - BMW v Lotus at Sentul on: September 30, 2014, 06:42:38 PM +0100
Sorry guys,

I'm going to be missing for a couple of weeks, maybe 3.... work commitments. We're running some prototype stuff for the 2017 Jags as well as moving premises so a few weeks of long hours ahead. If I'm around on Weds nights then I'll try and join in.

Have fun... I'll be back (at the back)  Wink

Do wonder if you g25/27 guys are losing out on the sublime ffb in this sim, it's worthy of better class equipment to get max feel out of it. My g25 felt like a cheap toy after I bought a fanatec club sport.

I'm slowly getting my G27 dialled in, I just tweak away at the in setup gain and damping options and it's stating to feel good. I've got rid of the around centre dead-zone and am now slowly lowering the gain and tweaking the damping to get a really smooth feel with little or no "notchiness" and no clipping at all. The Clubsport 2 pedals seem to be bedded in nicely, I've added a stiffer spring on the brake, but I can honestly say it feels like I can feel what's going on under braking  yes

I'll screenshot my settings if anyone wants to try a different route. Basically have 107% in the profiler for force which takes out the centre dead feel. Other stuff in the profiler at 100% and centreing spring ticked but at 0%. Then I just mess with the gain and damper. Running around 70% gain and 30% damping.

I got my invite notification for the new Fanatec wheel so I guess I've got a few months to save up although the G27 is feeling good at the moment.

Yep... the skins thing is a PITA. There are some lovely skins out there for most of the cars, yours included Chris, but only any good for racing with the AI at the minute. I've got a couple of really nice Martini skins for the F40 (1 Black and 1 White) which I'm using in off line practice but they won't show up on the server.

Off line practice in these is going as well as it can for me. I'm using flappy paddles, as I'm not competent enough to go fully manual just yet, and using a grippy track. It's a bit weird in single player mode as I generally set up a 10 lap race against the AI with 20 mins practice and quali but when the race starts the track has dropped to 75% grip and it's like driving on ice. I wish they'd sort out some of the fundamentals and get back to regular updates, even if they are small updates to sort out some of the niggles. Just leaves me wondering if they'll ever get some of the stuff fixed before they get to the official release candidate.

The F40 is fun round Imola though.

@goldtop.. I've also been quite enjoying the 1M S3 round Imola, Mugello and Silverstone if you're looking for suggestions  Wink

Apologies... had to bug out after getting attacked by my sisters dog (in a loving sort of way - it is a mental springer spaniel) Grin

Nice way for her to let me know she was visiting.

Hopefully I'll make it for the next one... if I don't get lost in Elite : Dangerous
21  UKAC / UKAC Races / Re: Wednesday Assetto Corsa Fun - 17th September 2014 - Abarth S1 at Magione on: September 15, 2014, 05:26:50 PM +0100
Not hard core enough for you pro's I guess  Grin

I've enjoyed driving the Abarth so far, like I said elsewhere, I'm actually learning to drive and starting to get to grips with the change-over from pad to wheel and pedals. It's helping me enormously with some of the other cars too. Might not be fast and furious but at least I'm not spending the whole race with no-one to chase or run away from, hence the smiles. The couple of glasses of Chablis might have had something to do with it too.......  Cheesy
22  SimRacing In General / Assetto Corsa / Re: United racing design - GT mod pack on: September 14, 2014, 09:01:20 PM +0100
Although fast and powerful will they provide a closer racing experience than the Arbaths Wink

See... picnic has hit the nail firmly on the head for me. Because I haven't got much to think about in terms of set up for the Abarth, I'm actually learning to "drive"  Shocked (Not an argument against the mod in any way). Racing the AI in practice has been huge fun, I've appreciated the way the track rubbers in.

A little off topic I suppose, but I wish I'd have started out in AC with the Abarths.

As far as the Mod goes... I wouldn't mind an Aston to drive, but there's plenty of diversity within AC itself for me (plus the Cobra and the upcoming Mazda Group C) at the moment.

All the best Bill... I might be around this evening but, sadly, don't have a mic. Still, it'll give me chance to learn some lines.

Edit: Didn't make it on to the server but had an hour against the AI. Excellent fun despite not being quite on the mid pack pace against 100% AI. Managed a mid 1:32 so far.

Extremely smile inducing  Grin

.... Must learn to read race announcements fully....  Angry

Read Historic Monza so been practising on Monza 1966.... Erm, think I'll give this one a miss as I haven't got anything like a setup for the modern day track.

Have fun guys.

Sorry about that.....race title is a bit misleading. I'll send you my race setup if you fancy giving it a try.

Had a run on our practise server last night and tbh I didn't find the grip too troublesome at 95%. Although I was a couple of seconds off my optimal pace, the reduced grip seemed to make things a bit more predictable if anything.

However if Pete has time to read this and change the lap gain to 12 for the race, that might work better for us especially if we have a low turnout.

No need to be sorry gt, I'm living in a bit of a dream-world at the minute and making life a bit hard for myself. Just got a few things on my mind that are getting in the way of clarity. A relatively quick setup will probably baffle me even more, but cheers for the offer.

@Jester.. cheers for the links. I'll probably be a liability if I venture out on to the track so I'm afraid I'm giving it a miss tonight.

Enjoyed the racing fellas, hopefully see you all next week Smiley

We had a good few laps in the middle of the race (Sleeper Service online). Some good close racing. I couldn't match you out of the corners but had the advantage under braking I think.

One thing is for sure... I won't be adding an AMG SLS to the lottery win car buying extravaganza  Grin.

What are others preferences for next week?

I'm up for a Ferrari @ Monza event, not particularly bothered which although it would be nice to see how the open wheelers go. Not driven them much.

They arrived with the update that came on Friday, as well as a few other things. The FFB is feeling better, for me anyway.

Had a little more seat time in the SLS now and I'm slowly learning. Cheers for the tip GT, I'll give that a shot in my next session.
