Let's face it, you probably wont stop Madd or Dan winning if you make them drive a tractor.

You'll have us driving an Abarth before long against the 70's cars! Smiley

Umm

On pure speed alone I think I am in the wrong group, however an excuse not to drive the yank tanks is VERY welcome...
I can drive the P&G Cobra better than the GTL one, but I would not choose it unless it was by far the quickest.

My fave would probly be the Jag, partly 'cos I find it easy to drive, and partly 'cos it has the same sound as
the GTL Aston  Smiley

I think for this track at least that you will need to put the quick guys in slower cars. The e-type and 275 are not that slow (1.16s so far) and the middle group is pretty close in times to them (if not a touch slower?). The slower jags are still capable of 17s, perhaps the fast group could use these, or the slower 350, or the quickest Z06 vette? It is a shame that the patch isn't out yet, because the 250c would be another option.

Times so far for each car:

Daytona          1.14.5 (could be quicker now)
Cobra Coupe    1.14.5 (not the powerful willment one - that would be quicker)
Cobra roadster 1.15.6
e-type light 5   1.16.5
vette L72         1.16.6
275 GTB           1.16.7
350 CASC         1.17.0  (probably could be faster now)
e-type roadster 1.17.5
e-type coupe    1.18.4 (with mistakes - probably high 17s on a good one)

Also, please don't link championship performance to car choice. It just kicks you in the teeth for doing well. I trust Ian to choose fairly whoc should be a which band, and if someone is clearly in the wrong one then I'm sure it will be easy to change.

No! Absolutely link championship performance to car choice. The better you do the harder it gets. Also would probably make the deviation from top to bottom of table, closer.

As someone who ends up being affected by this more often than not, the idea is horrible. Someone who is quick but either makes plenty of mistakes or only races occasionally ends up in a fast car and is untouchable by the driver who diligently drove several faultless races but is in fact no quicker over a lap in equal machinery.

Lets just give it a go as SBG said & I have faith he will keep an eye on anyone that is struggling & needs a quicker car & likewise people that are finding they need to be slowed down to keep the racing close.
A bit like Tinman said, it will become obvious from who's winning & who's at the back as to what needs to happen to keep the racing close.

Now that we have some benchmarks, cheers Paul, you have a better idea of the fastest times Matt. I'm sure I'll be a tad behind Paul and the evil RVS boys but if you are off that pace by all means choose differenetly. The same applies to all, if you are in the wrong group pick a more suitable option. The closer we all become the better I think.

As regards how the groupings will be determined, lets wait to see if these tests work first  Smiley

Master, I will run in whatever group you choose as I am only a bodhisatva  angel
1st Off superb track! lurve it to bits, and no it's not "easy" the last bit over yon merry brow is a piggy...

No more than 10 laps in each car, default setups, a little tweaking (gears, less diff so i could drive some)
jag is geared one click too low, Cobras 3 clicks too high. Times are screwed from "normal" 'cos I just
don't get on with some of the cars, at least a sec of the decent ish times to come, probly more
with some more tweaking and practice, and the times are in the order I ran, so should be better
at the end. Not sure what some of the cars are? is Fez 250C the competizione?

Jag 5 spd            - 1:16.2
Fez 275GTB/C      - 1:16:4
Fez 250Compet    - 1:18:4 (Damm lively fellow...)
ShelbyGT350CASC- 1:15:8
CorVette L72       - 1:16:4
Cobra289 Roadste -1:17:0
Shelby Daytona    - 1:14.1
Cobra 289 Coupe  - 1:16.1

Took several laps before I completed one in any of the Yanks, Daytona after reducing Diff to 30/20
(so It didn't fall off at every bend) was good except brakes are rubbish. Fex250 was probably quicker
if i'd spent some time taming the wanton beast. Vette was hardest for me, did 7 laps before I managed
a complete on, was so bored with it, quit with "that'l do"

finally got around to running some laps here. Not overly keen on the track, its a bit too narrow for these wayward beasts although the layouts good. I was hoping to stretch the legs a bit on the yank tanks.

Tried the L72 (1:16.8 ) and the L289 Roadster (1:15.8 ) so far. Liking the roadster, feels a proper lairy USA machine. Cool  The L72 seems to lack any decent brakes !  Shocked

Any setups for some of this exotica would be most handy. I never quite know what to tweak on the US cars to get them to handle the way they need to with all that power and lack of turn in.

Will try more cars when i get a chance.
