lifts goggles and wipes oil from face.... what a cracking race that was last night ! Only joined during qually and hadnt practised on it since last week as thought i couldnt make the race. Took me too many laps to get into the rhythm in qually and a 1:30 was only good enough for 22nd on the grid and nowhere near my low 29's of last week. Still that meant the race was superb fun for me as i fought my way up the field from 22nd to finish 8th Had some great battles along the way and soaked up the atmosphere as i raced against Ginsters Stingray? and several F250 and F275s along the way, not to mention the odd Cobra in the mix. Even TT's funeral pyre of a Ferrari added to the atmos parked up with the engine oozing black smoke. This track is just perfect for these cars and i am sure will provide many a good race meet here with different car combos. Great fun, excellent spread of cars and brilliant turn out. ...whats next ? Mostly warping was on the straights, a couple of times you zoomed up and fell back, and then after you'd got past, there was an occasion of zooming back into me. One time in Lavant you tried to pass round the outside I thought I'd given room, if you felt I didn't, sorry for that as the Fez was a bit skittish with my setup and didn't always go exactly where I wanted it to. I had wondered why your car was shaking so much, must have been the SHOUTING! Actually I don't remember shouting at you, it was the Jag that kept pulling into me. Lack of memory suggests you always left enough room

Due to the 'clubmans' rule i selected the SCCA Shelby….and it worked out pretty well I didn’t practice much at all (kinda knew the track anyway) drove two 'fast' laps in quali and got a late 1:27.9 and that was good enough for 2nd (almost 1st but that dam Tibernius and he's Cobra in the last few seconds! - fantastic timing on he's part) Strange start for me…couldn’t go too mad into T1 because of the overtaking rule…and also because I couldn’t see the start lights Once passed T1 I was on the tail of Tibernius, and he's Cobra didn’t look too happy with cold tyres/brakes, 1st left corner he went slightly wide on to the grass. I slipped through in to 1st. Looked like I was gonna be under some real pressure from the faster Cobra's of Ross and Tibernius but their coming together took that pressure off, phew. After that it was just a case of head down..and just keep putting in low risk 1:29'ish (I guess) laps – the gap between me and P2 generally increased – I guess the guys behind where making small mistakes – don’t think it was me being fast (I didn’t get fastest lap in either race or quail). and that was it 1.29's all race = win. Car felt fine, my retro MS steering wheel worked faultlessly this time out. I normally have bad races @ Goodwood. But at last a win! High5's!

If it hadn't been discussed at length on here that 1:27's were too fast, I'd have stuck with the Shelby Daytona & kicked some serious cod. Instead I moved to a slower group of cars. I look forward to seeing you faster chaps (podiums/qualifiers) tonight following suit at the next race, or this whole clubmans fails before it starts. Seconded, spent ages picking a car that gave me a mid 1.29 at best. Very frustrated to see all those faster than 1.29's But I guess we knew this would need tweaking! / actually may be not everybody got the message? Point taken. Guess setting the fastest lap doesn't help.. honestly do not know were pace came from. Normally i'm way at the back of the field so no sandbaggin' here Will not take the fastest cars next time :'(

Relax Alex You weren't really way out front just very competitive for me. The times, apart from me , were really quite close. Good on ya for getting up there. However, its is clear that many are "catching up" so more tweaking to do

Ginsters, perhaps for when PnG get's a full season - why not base the car catogories in championship order? It works well for GPL's Clubman seasons and it tends to bring the championship down to the wire. Admittedly, they may be a problem for the first race but it's just a thought .

I'm sure Paul will be along to put you straight very soon Sam But he does have a point. People who crash off shouldn't have an advantage for next race as we will not have the close racing we all want but someone streaking away. We are gonna have to except that these grouping aren't gonna be perfect but if entered in the right "clubmans" spirit it might just work. If everyone gets hung up on the pace of whoever and/or are determined to win then its not gonna. I'm easy either way

Don't know what was going on there last night - my connection hasn't been that bad in yonks! Appologies if it put you off, also sorry to Mike as it may have been me that was jumping around for you too. No worries, I guess this is one of those problems that happens from time to time...stupid internet. In some ways I was glad it was warp as I spent a lot of time shouting obsenities at you via my monitor, as you seemed to be driving with no mirrors going by how often you drove into me when I pulled alongside! I take back my unheard insults in that case, as you probably couldn't see where I was Apologies if I didn't see you but, as the Jag is a right-hand drive, we don't get to see to much on the left at close quarters.

I'm sure Paul will be along to put you straight very soon Sam Wink But he does have a point. mmmmm nnnnnnmmmmgg nnnnnnnnnnnggggg - someone get this gag off me! As Ian says, this is not my favoured option (is that polite enough?) This whole process needs refining, and it is very clear that the gap is rapidly narrowing beteen the quickest and the slowest drivers. The other thing is that goodwood is a nice circuit for the power cars, but other more windy ones won't be. Let's see what happens at a twisty track with fewer long straights before coming to too many conclusions.
