Err, 1:57 in the Alfa on the one lap that came relatively close to not crashing into the barriers.

You know, some days you shouldn't even bother trying.......

Think I'll go and watch the snow fall instead.  :P

Finding it difficult to find a rhythm here, keep missing last corner and going down the pit lane.

As a recent recruit am I eleigible to race in season 7?

Cheers

Paul

If there is something semi-planned could it be posted up as a fun race so at least people who do want to race realise there is something going on?

Lol. Well, as thats the we do it, it had occurred to me. Unfortunately real life duties, me job and the snow got in the way of my full time duties here ::) Something here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=5811.msg99857#msg99857) now though :)

Just tried out the GTL version in a Falcon, quite different from the GTR2 version, but no less enjoyable, managed an initial 1.47, maybe could go quicker but will try some more tomorrow.

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 7 - Mid-Ohio - Feb 12
Post by: Steve Holmes on February 07, 2009, 12:10:12 PM +0000
I just don't get this track, managed the odd lap in the 47s or 48s but after several practice sessions and probably an hours driving over the last week I'm still running off the track, crawling up to the apex, it's just too wide and vague, really hate it.  Which is a shame as a wide track like this should in theory make for good racing.

Certainly can't be bothered to try and set up a P&G car when I can't even drive the track, see how I feel on Thurs for this.

Title: Re: UKGTL Season 7 - Mid-Ohio - Feb 12
Post by: phspok on February 09, 2009, 03:13:08 PM +0000
Im struggling a bit in P&G as my frame rate is horrible at 1920x1200 in places, less horrible here.
This week I will be in 1280x1024 which is more drivable.
The 1st turn requires turn and hope, hard to get a perfect line and not go wide under power
and if you clip the yellow curb on the inside (pit lane divider) there is a really nasty cut track warning
which seems less so in the GTR2 version.
There are a couple of "power on over brow" places that are great fun here and really tricky (to me)
in P&G and the curbs are suicide, put a wheel over and you spin, again less so here with the
slower cars. I am finding this with the slower cars much easier, though not neccesarilly less fun
than in P&G with the monster GT40.

Arghhh. now I am really cross >:(
Was about to have some praccy last night only to find that although I have brought the GTL box with me, (away again this week)
It is empty! the disk is back home... an 8 hour round trip is too much, keen though I am, so I have ordered it from Amazon
for delivery down here. (Sandhurst) If it turns up Thursday I will be in. if not, unless someone has some hints on no cd
(I have the PC and installed game) then I am stuck. Dang, and I really really wanted to do this one.

Post by: Legzy on February 12, 2009, 09:40:31 AM +0000
So that's the game plan sorted for tonight then Ginsters:
1) We out-drag as many people as possible off the start line.
2) I'll then steer the Falcon round as quickly as I possibly can (which will be holding everybody up by about 5 secs per lap).
3) Watch you in your Falcon disappear into the distance for an easy win.

Worked perfectly last night  ;D ;D

My sad story was I tried and tried to get past Ginsters, but Alfa didnĀ“t have power to hold its position at the straights, and I made a desperate maneuver last lap and went wide, where S Blood got past me. Nice racing, thanks all and grats to podium!

well that was a larf, passed some unfortunates who had a coming together early on
had an almost race long tussle with Capn Blood, with Dyno impatiantly nipping at me heels
for a while, then Bill gets in the middle of the tarck while being lapped by 3 people
at once (eeeekkkkk!!!)   I come off worst and Dyno dives through, passes S Blood after
a while, then I catch, almost, and sometimes actually pass Blood, then either go wide
or can't make the pass stick.. some jolly good side by side stuff through many turns
early on was tough as each time i got close he would warp some, good race mind
Dyno lucked out at end while harrowing SBG, and BBlood whips through on last lap.
I nearly went into the fence in the last two turns, as a Cavalier suddenly appeared
on the track (Neighbour's dog decided to jump up and be friendly)  ::)

Good race trying to get passed SBG and Lazlow , this track is hard to pass on as alot of the corners lead into each other ,(with the added great defensive driving form Lazlow and SBG  ;)). I agree with Steve that the track feels a bit vague and is way to wide .
Grats to podium.
See you at Laguna!
Cheers

Great turnout tonight and brilliant to see some new faces even after all this time :)

the track feels a bit vague and is way to wide .

It suited my driving perfectly ;) Never had to work so hard for a podium and enjoyed that immensely.

Doesn't get much better than trying to hold up Dan whilst chasing Matt ;D Real shame Matt fell away as it felt like that one could run and run. Congrats on another fine pass (that becoming a nasty habit  ;)) but glad I made you work hard for it Dan. Just settled down after that and had all of 5 laps easy going until a green Alfa, they are rather "conspicuous", caught me. My tyres were shredded (never usually a problem but went real bad here) but I managed somehow to hold Dyno up just long enough. Great and fair stuff when it would have been easy to clatter me. One more lap and I would have lost 3 places  :)

Unlike Monday, gotto say I didn't feel guilty holding you gents up as that was ruddy hard work. Knackered.

Congrats to Dan, Lazlow and the other muscle car idjuts :)

Oh that Falcon was hard work  :sweatdrop:
First ever time I've been brave enough to race with it. Then made a last minute tweak to the rear toe... which was a mistake (shocker! ::)), lost my rear a few times because of that I think. Sorry to everyone I bumped, rubbed, got in the way of, frightened, etc.  :-[

Big sorry to Bill. My car just was not as stable as it had been & my braking was shot at the end of that straight. Took us both out, waited till you joined me on the track. Sorry mate. Then you went off again at the next corner (LOL), I just didn't think it would be cricket to drive off at that point, so waited again. I think we both lost almost 50 secs that lap  Sorry again.

I enjoyed driving the Falcon, especially the first four laps while it was all bunched up. But my fear was that with my slower overall pace in the Falcon (then my Alpha time), I'd be left behind & would miss all the fighting. It happened. From lap 9 to 22 there was a 25sec gap ahead & behind. Shame really. I guess I need to put more work into those muscle cars before I brave them again.  :surrender:

Well done to Lazlow & Tinman, you two at least did Team Oldie proud.  8)

Post by: Samb on February 12, 2009, 10:02:03 PM +0000
That was my first online in GTL and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. Quali went ok but I was just outside the top 10, which was fine by me as I simply didn't know what to expect. The start was interesting as not all the cars had loaded on my screen! Thankfully I didn't hit anyone so all was well. I lost a couple places avoiding a barrol-rolling car on the downhill section at one point but by the end of the first lap I found myself into 5th.

It was then a matter of keeping position and me and Matt had an epic battle through most parts of the race. I gained a place into 4th at some point although I'm not quite sure how. Eventually I lost a place to Dyno halfway through the race when I ran wide at the first corner and then lost the back end when braking at the end of the straight. The front end smashed into the barrier and came back onto the track but kept 5th, and me and Matt resumed battle once more.

With a couple laps to go, I saw Dyno and Ginsters battling for 3rd a few seconds ahead of me. I managed to close the gap and after Dyno made a slight error, I nabbed 4th on the last lap. I couldn't overtake Ginsters before the end of the race but 4th is a much better result that what I was expecting. See you all next race  ;D

Mmmm, interesting race...

Didn't want to go for my standard No.1 pick Alfa , so decided to to start with the Falcon .
Already did 8 practicelaps with it so it felt very comfortable :whistling:

First few laps were fun racing between all those other cars and trying to keep them behind you in the twisty part of the track.
Unfortunately I had to use more track than there was and ended up in some barriers .  With all the faster guys gone( almost everyone) I had some fun with Jimmer for a few laps.

Overall, great track and a fun car to drive.  See you all next week.

Sorry, when a train of cars catch you it's difficult, depending where you are on the track, to get out of everybodies way particularly when there are two each looking at opposite sides of you.

In general I try and get out of the either running wide or tightening my line - once again sorry can't get it right all the time.

Thanks for waiting for me, I'm afraid I spent too much time trying to see which way you try and overtake me and when you were in front which part of the track were you trying to use.    The long wait was I went into the end of a barrier and stalled the engine.   >:( When I restarted it, trying to get back on the track proved difficult   ??? then too much right boot when I found the black stuff.  ::)

Last night was my first GTL online race and I enjoyed it. I managed to avoid most of the mayhem early on, but I started making silly mistakes and so slipped down. Almost took out Tiberius after a silly overtake but he managed to avoid hitting me.

Is there anything like GPL's replay analyser for GTL? Would like to see where I lost time to the aliens  :)

I've just got a copy of GTR2, so I'll try out the P&G mod soon.

Still getting the hang of GTL - last night was a bit of a classic for me.  Started very steadily and made it around the first lap unscathed.  Surpised by how dark the track was made picking out one or two apexes interesting.  About 8 or so lpas in realised that I hadn't added more fuel ready for the race - too many years racing GPL where there is a race and a practice setup so this isn't an issue.  Did a stop, amended the fuel to see me to the end but forgot to tell my pit crew not to repair damage or change tyres........some time later ready to rejoin, forget to engage speed limiter get stop go for speeding, emerge 2 laps down on leaders.  I got a good rythym for remainder of race (new tyres probably helped) just a pity about the grey stuff not working that well, looking forward to next time

Didn't know that you could restart a stalled engine. How does this work?

Default I think is key "S" but I have designated my right hand steering wheel button as starter   8) - it cranks a a bit then catches (if I've remembered to dip the clutch  ??? ) 1st gear or reversed and away.

I went down the bit on the barrier overlap so had to reverse back out of that and try and identify the closest/quickest way onto the black stuff which I think was slightly higher up than I was - so not clearly visible.  ???  :helpsmilie:
