31  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 25 (2013) Professionals Trophy (65) - Vallelunga - Dec 17 on: December 17, 2013, 10:59:50 PM +0000
Used my Bathurst chassis set up here with adjustments to the obvious tyres but that's all & it was ok. Took a bit to get the gears right though. Got turn 1 completely wrong & rubbbed the barrier but no damage & it didn't affect anyone. That left me 10th & last. Got past Andy & Turkey Machine when they made mistakes but other than that gained my places as others dropped out. Not lapped as well which I thought may happen before the start Grin. Well done to the podium & to a new champion.

The season was really about a terrible first 6 races but the last 4 wern't too bad at all. Think I am last in the championship of those who did all 10 races but no matter. Hope to be back next season.

Have a good Christmas & New Year & thanks to all those who make UKGPL possible.

Dean (DL) is this seasons most successful BT11 driver so I have been on board with him at Opatija & Schottenring to see if I can learn anything. He brakes later than me, no, A LOT LATER, so things get a bit hairy at times but he's getting results, so...........
Practiced this one a lot & was getting nowhere so I did what your not supposed to do & changed everything on my set up all at once, radically!. Amazing. over 3 secs off my PB & the sweetest handling car I've had for ages. That qually time was no fluke.
In the race after the T1 carnage I followed Gareth & eventually we were behind the DL Cookie battle. I hadn't the speed or ability to join in. Gareth did & crashed out. They didn't exactly get rid of me either till I had a spin but then I caught up a bit later on. Boy was the dust flying I kept thinking they must have crashed but they didn't. So when I saw yellow flags at the cutting & DL burried in the wall I can't say I was supprised. Happy though Wink'cos I was 4th. Then Cookie pulled in at the pits & I strolled it home for a podium. The first time I have passed the chequered flag this season at the 9th attempt. Time for a couple of dinky doughnuts at the pit exit a quick "YeeeeHaaaa!" on chat & I left the circuit a happy GPL'er.
My best pro race drive ever & I had luck on my side with the spins not hitting anything. Had to come right one day & it just did!!!!!! Grin. Well done to those who finished & commiserations to those who didn't.
UMMM?? wonder if this set up will work at Vallelunga Wink

I crashed near the end of the lap in the village of Rudingshain & car burst into flames. Exited game immediatly so you would not see any yellows by the time you got there Fran.

I had practiced this track on & off since the beginning of the season expecting a high drop out rate but due to circumstances I hadn't been on GPL for a week & this track for over 2 weeks so was a bit rusty & it showed. Just wanted to cross the finish line really so was dissappointed I crashed on the last lap when I was very jittery. Sat watching the finish line expecting Fran to come through but he didn't. Watched the race result page waiting for it to change dropping me to 4th but it didn't. Amazing. It was me who let Andy through after his first crash dropped him to last as there was no point in resisting the inevitable & possibly a crash. Well done the top 2 & comiserations to Fran. One of us had to be unlucky.

Result shows I had an accident but not so. The engine blew & I ran along the barrier to keep out of the way. Up to my old tricks that Clive warned me about many seasons ago using too much engine braking & perhaps not matching the revs properly. Entirely my fault this one. Must be the heat of competition.

Really enjoyed this at one of my favourite tracks. Drove totally defensively for the first 12 laps, although it seemed like 24 Grin, with Andy & Goran never more than 1 second behind. I was holding 5th place but in the end Goran passed. Followed him for a lap or two then my screen went blank. The dreaded disco Sad

Not to worry because it was good whilst it lasted. Smiley

Sorry it sounded that bad. Maybe should not write a report whilst the race is in progress & leave it till the next day when I have had time to think it through 'cos by the next day I am looking forward to the next race. It really is just bad luck for 3 of the 4 races. Best practice my starts as well. See you all at the next one Grin. Very pleased to see we had 15 starters as I believe only 17 registered for this class.

My worst season ever continues. In 4 races I have only recorded 2 timed sectors (at Monaco). Think Clutch is wrong my collision was with Sky who spun presumably after contact with Clutch. I lost a wheel.

I have accepted no shift R racing now but must admit I didn't leave the game immediatly as this time which is the second race running a not my fault crash in the 1st sector. I sat for a while & thought about using Shift R I was so fed up & sorely tempted. I had considered starting at the back of the grid here just to see if I could finish a race but look what happened to those guys so that is no protection.  Moan over - on to the next one Grin

Now I really am disappointed at this one 'cos that was a good qually by my standards & 7th in that company is good for me. Ran into someone else's accident & hit a car that was accross the road who I think was my mate Clutch but he'd already had a coming together with someone else.
I exited immediatly but he thinks it took out several other cars behind as well.

Clutch cannot make a posting on any UKGPL thread when logged on so can't comment here. Maybe as well !! Sad. Paul(B/Blood I'll e-mail you about his problem.

Well at least you finished Francesco. My (team)mate Clutch had trouble logging on to UKGPL on & cannot see the race details . In the end I texted him the password so he had very little qually time.  Cookie was faster off the line (everyone is Smiley) & Clutch passed me when I went wide after Portier which I didn't mind but then Francesco followed him through at the same time!!! ::)Then I detached the front wheel at the harbour chicane. Once again failed to complete a lap.

On behalf of Clutch has anyone any ideas why he can't see the race details?

Not a good start - engine blew after second corner on lap 1. things can only get better Smiley

Change of mind I have just put an entry in for Pros so please cancel my Inters entry. Hope this doesn't cause you trouble Paul. There may be one or two at the back to make a race of it

Finished last runner in all but one of the pro races I did last season before my PC broke. I hope this isn't as difficult as that was!

Good & bad wasn't it. Deal with the bad first. Spin on lap 1 was I suppose not as bad as bumping someone directly but it still messed up the race for some & for that I sincerely appologise.
The good was a qually place(not time) I would never have dreamed of, AND!!, I was fastest Honda so move over Magic Wink. The 5th race of the season & this is the first time I have passed anyone in open racing & also the first time I have finished the race not being last of those still running & completely out of touch with the rest of the field. Some encouraging signs there after a dismal season so far. Tried a celebration doughnut at the end & finished up in the fence Grin.
Clive is having a bad time & this one was the worst so sympathy there. Secondly, my mate Clutch from back of grid to 4th was brilliant.
I didn't go public with my thoughts on the rules under which we race after the first race I PM'd Cookie but this time I will. Don't make any concessions for me who chose to come into Pro racing when Inters folded. I had the choice & signed up to No shiftR, one car for the season, & handicapping if the mods want to do it. No handicap for anyone all season is ok by me. Must say though when I was in group 3 in novices I took it as a compliment. Extra satisfaction if you are ahead of the faster cars.

Very disapointed but my own fault. Good, alright unbelievable, qually for me but spun it to last place by end of lap 1. That's why I put "can it last" on chat - answer no 'cos it rarely does  Grin . Thought, don't give up as based on qually I should be able to at least get in touch with the back of the field for the first time this season. I was gaining on the field when 2 obligingly spun so  got a couple of places back. In the end I overdid it & lost a wheel in the resultant crash. The good thing was I wasn't running last when it happened so to me that's a small encouragement.
