1501  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 16 (2008) Clubmans \'67 - Kyalami - Dec 7 on: December 07, 2008, 03:21:35 PM +0000
I have a question. Since I started online racing, first with the GBGPL and now with you guys, I've pretty much been getting away with not knowing what I'm doing because I'm rubbish. Rubbish but eager so I guess that gets me some brownie points. Anyway...

Every online race I take part in, I always show in the results as disco-ing. This happens even when I finish the race with no issues. So far (I guess because I'm rubbish) I've still been classified and given a few minor points for the place I did actually finish in. However, what is it that I'm doing wrong to get listed as "disco"?

I suspect that I'm disconnecting from the server too soon after the chequered flag, but I don't know the post-race procedure so can someone tell me?

My natural inclination has always been to do what happens in real life and do another full lap and pull into the pits. Should I then sit in the car until the server shuts down or should I quit to the menu but stay connected? Until when? What do I do?

Cheers.
That's a good method, but you should stay connected but in the race menu, ideally with chat enabled since post-race banter usually ensues. You should ideally wait until in the in-game chat it says "The server will leave the track in one minute", or everyone starts saying "bye" or "see you in Igor/VROC". This way you'll see the news headlines and be offered a chance to reconnect if the server stays up, or disconnect if it goes down.

On a separate note, it says "I'm a reserve driver." What's the procedure for us reserves, as I don't remember reading about it?

Hi Turkey, you'll need to register for the Clubmans (see poll at start of this thread) in order to see the password for the Clubmans race this Sunday (see here).

Both you and Ginsters will have a free choice of chassis since it is your first Clubmans outing.  Good luck and please check out the Clubmans rules here before you race.

Cheers

Phil

Done and done. I look forward to Sunday. Smiley

It is said by some that to ponder long is to ponder well, and these are indeed bold words from our adversaries.  Challenges serve to make the warm blood course, and to quicken the spirits.  What figure shaped to quaffing and revelry could resist?  Eager though modest Jack and his faithful comrades remain undaunted by mere phrase-mongering, our deeds will once more be sufficient instruction to our rivals.
Does that mean you got a full grid on the UKGPL side of things, or are you still looking? angel

I shall, I was a bit too pissed to make practice tonight. Cheesy

Howdy everyone! I'd like to register my interest in signing up to this series. I'm looking to improve my online racecraft, pace, setup directions, and most of all have fun! I understand the next race is this Sunday at Kyalami. The last car I drove was the Eagle, my pace is respectable (if you like, check my GPLRank: Jethro Walters), I'm not brilliantly fast but I'm keen to learn. Is it too soon, or should I wait after Christmas?

Sounds like fun! *goes to install 65 mod*
1507  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 16 Novices and Amateurs Trophy Registration on: December 03, 2008, 03:15:00 PM +0000
There aren't any more league races for the Novices until Jan 6th now as we're taking a break for Xmas but there will be some racing competitions organised for the 27th and 28th December though.

If you're just looking to jump online and practise and race together for fun then the practise server 5UKGPL is online most nights.

For the rest of this week though it will be used as a practise server for Sunday's 67 Clubmans race.

Was this in response to me? If so, does that mean I can just jump on the server some evenings and join in?

Hi there. First post, so please be gentle! Smiley

I've been sim-racing for on and off the last 5 years or so. First it was GP3, then GP4, now it's GPL, though I dip my toes into the other 2 off-line sometimes.

I'm a member of another league (season and a half there) that's more private, but probably just as competitive, and it's there that somebody "politely suggested" that I join UKGPL, amongst other online GPL leagues, and try and hone my racecraft, as I can be a bit erratic, though I did win my first race in that league this year at Monza in the Eagle; albeit everything went to plan, even the engine letting go wasn't enough to stop me, as I was about a second quicker than the next car, which was a Honda driven by a madman.

My GPLRank is respectable, I only recently got it under 0, and that's with lots of time to find at the Nurburgring.

I'd like to join the Novice league and enter a couple races, but with Xmas coming up, there's no guarantee I'll be able to make the races when I go home. Is it worth me starting the process immediately, or waiting for next season? Personally, I'd like to start as soon as, but if anybody else says otherwise, I will of course respect that. Smiley
