Dreadful start to qualify; when I went on track, the resistance in my wheel had turned all gooey. No choice but to exit and restart GTL, which thankfully fixed it. When I rejoined, I had a hard time getting a clear lap, but all worked out in the end, with a new pb.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to get off the line with these cars. I've tried high revs, low revs, medium revs, dumping the clutch, easing the clutch out, but no matter what, I always seem to crawl slower off the line than practically everybody else. De Martini in the same car positively catapulted off the line in comparison. If anyone who's discovered the secret would give some advice, I'd be most grateful
Thus lost a place and slotted into 4th at the start. Had Maipor behind, but he spun at the beginning of L2 and was replaced by Geoffers. Beginning of L3, up ahead Ziu and De Martini had coming together. Looked like I could profit from it, gaining one or maybe even two places. But just as I aimed for this, I had to swerve off track to avoid Ziu's rejoining car. No gains then; on the contrary, it brought Geoff up close and personal instead. Later same lap, Martini went hillclimbing
, so I claimed 3rd.
Held most of the race. Looked like I was slipping away from Geoffers at about the same rate Ziu was slipping away from me. Thus shaping up to be a lonely race, but was far from it. Constant traffic of drivers who had been delayed for various reasons. Had one or two hairy moments with stationary cars. Thanks to all who helped me past. Apologies for not thanking in race, but driving these cars fast takes about 110% of my concentration. Thus don't dare take my hand off the wheel, to fumble for a predefined message key on the keyboard
Late in the race, a message from Ati indicated he might be in trouble. Sure enough, the pitboard showed me in 2nd shortly after. Tough luck Atilla; you seemed to have victory in the bag, but at least you left in elegant style..
Grats to Ziu on the win and Geoffers on the final podium.
Regrettably handicapping kicks in from next race, and I'll have to wave goodbye to the wonderful Brabham for now :'( Anyone want to buy a BT24 ? Pristine condition; only raced once since total rebuild..
Cheers,
Erling
