Title: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Zandvoort (1948-72) - Jul 6
Post by: Billy Nobrakes on July 01, 2012, 11:14:28 PM +0100
THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES
On to Round 2 of the Formula 2 European Tour. We swap the high speed straights of Belgium for the sand-dunes of Zandvoort in the Netherlands where all the corners have ridiculously unpronounceable names. But it is a Papyrus original.

For the first two rounds there is a free choice of chassis for all drivers. Handicapping will be introduced for the three leading drivers in each division from Round 3 onwards.

In Round 1 the Lights podiums went to Mark Barresi, Natan & Evil – although he did nick third from Fulvio in the very tightest of finishes. In the Heavy’s Phil Thornton held of a late challenge from Bernie with Billy in 3rd.

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=366&theme=6)

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone – which will be up to the entry to Tunnel Oost.
Please note that for Season 23 UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series  for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10879.0). Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

Hmm... this may be difficult to join from Silverstone-way!   :)

By all means have races whenever there is footy on, but Fri/Sat of British GP w/end.... really?!

Cheers,
Dave.

It's not the Fri/Sat that worries me Dave, it is the Sunday - might not get home for the GTs!

How much is a weekend pass to Silverstone these days? Haven't been since '99 & it wasn't cheap then.
I was working on the basis it is out of the price range of most of the membership.

WEEKEND PASS??!!!! :o  Blimey!! no wonder Barclays Bank is in trouble with people making those sort of withdrawls!!!

If you are interested I know that for around £1500 you can get a Meal with all the celebs on Saturday evening, a pass into the pit area and a seat in one of the corporate boxes to watch the race............how many should I reserve for you????

Yeah Bernie!  It was the same here!
I saw nearly all the F1 Races on the Hockenheimring this way ;D
There was a little bridge over the Hardbach...

To be honest Axel it wasn't just the money (though it was a big factor ) it was mostly  "improving" spectator safety and declining spectacle . the dumbed down tracks , the massive run off areas , you could hardly see the cars never mind the drivers with there space helmets sinking further and further down into the confines of the modern GP car .

Silverstone was never the best spectating track ,  in britain Brands Donington and Oulton Park beat it hands down , though silver did offer the unbelievable sights of guys like Rindt and Ronnie doing full blown power slides round Woodcote corner at 150 mph , nowadays replaced by a pathetic chicane .   Zandy was superb as was Monaco before all the wire fences but the best of the best for getting up close was our recent friend Mont Juich where you could almost touch the cars as they raced by, what a track that was , shame it had to close .

I guess we were lucky to see the best years at first hand  ;)

This will be my first time at Silverstone, but I suspect that Bernie is right and I will be taking my binoculars!! Have to agree that Brands is good for viewing, especially around Druids, even with the huge fencing.

Castle Coombe is also quite good , but because the ground rises slightly towards the centre of the circuit you can never see the whole lap.

Yes we were!

You can't imagine the popular outrage in ~1960, when they build that 60cm fences around the old track, to keep us more than 30cm away from the tarmac.

Watch out if parking in a field - the Silverstone mud is infamous, and evil.  Studded tyres required if you find yourself on a slope.  England has had record rain amounts, and no Summer yet! :-[

Didn't get back in time to make this one (or at least Dad didn't - I've nicked his login) :( Mini upheld the family honour but didn't really have enough practice.

For the 2nd race in succession I made it all the way to T1 , this time though my race was to be a no no  :-[

Going into T1 I was on the outside , I left room for any one I couldn't see,  or who might be arriving late at the hairpin up the inside,  but in spite of that I got spun around and clouted around the resulting T bone around my roundards spun me around and around  :o

When things stopped spinning I was relieved to find I had landed the correct way up on my derrier and with no apparent damage  (except that is to my grey matter which was still in a whizzytiz) .

So I set off full of hopes to chase after the pack only to realise I was heading the wrong way in the direction of the grandstands ( very entertaining for the crowds ,very bad for me ).

My tom tom go was screaming at me to do a U turn , as was the race stewards , one who was waving a black rag at me which had some directions written on it , telling me where to go ? ,

I drove on for a few more laps as it seemed a pity to waste such a nice day and would have been a shame to leave the party too soon .

After a few more laps chasing shadows ( or Lolas and brabs) I decided it was all a bit pointless ( or would be ) so decided to quit and go for the early bath .

Grats to whoever won , to the podium and to all finishers .

All set to start practice & the phone went. So I had to head into work to deal with an incident, not a nice call to get at 6:15 on a Sat morning.

Hope to see you all next round..

I was very sad about the accident with Bernnie.

I kept all the time inside and it was always out, I think it was a lag of game........anyway sorry bernie.
I feel guilty because in t1 should give more space. :-[

A great start nearly hit the rear of s2173 but squeezed past on the grass, spent 7 laps trying to keep up with the leader JP then lost it at Pulleveld, had lucky break due to incident at Jan De Wyker (got past Billy) and ended 4th.
Grats to s2173 for win and Grats to podium.

You actually hit my front... I'm not sure who's to blame, I expected someone to pass me after that slow start, but definetly didn't expect a pass from that side with the haybale, your move seemed like suicide...

I totally messed the first lap and dropped to 7'th... but managed to regain the places in about 15 laps. Passes were alright, except the one with Fabio... But seeing at the replay, the pass was ok on my side, I had more than 50% and he never defended the inside... but turned into me. Also a wrap contact, because I didnt feel a hit...

What is clear tho is that I'm too fast for the heavies... BB should do something about it. Maybe I can go to lights, without points transfer? As long as the penalty points don't transfer, il be fine with that... ;D

Not much practise done here except to find the braking for turn 1 as I knew the track quite well from going there last season in the 65's, I used the default setup with changes to the gearing as the car had loads of grip compared to the 65's I'm used too. Qualified 2nd but miles off pole- got a great start though and got the lead. Lost it to rog after going wide but after a few laps dicing got the lead back. A gap of about 10 seconds appeared behind maybe something happened? but then the lag struck me and the track was'nt there on my return- 1st to last in a flash. Had a quiet run to the flag with a good couple of laps with billy at the end. Well done the podium.

Congratulation to Hristo , Clive and Mark !!!

What a race …….. my clothes had been totally wet through after .
(serves my washing machine a single attack today )
well , my start was extreme poor due to a too long first gear .
I should have known better by last Wednesday BREASTS action .
But somehow I managed to set first gear up wrong again .lol

Lost two places but could follow Alex closely through the first lap .
Maybe to closely as my car got out of  control under breaking into T1 second lap.
Of course I factor in the slipstream effect . But still strange to me ; online it is dramatic different to the way it turns out offline being in tow of a AI car . As my server /internet connection seemed to be perfect all over the race , I am a bit clueless why that is .
Anyroads , my car went wide to the right side , over the green back to track at exit of T1 .
No chance for Cookie to avoid contact . SORRY Axel !
Surprisingly fast I could close the gap to Alex and a few laps later I could past on the long straight . Had some nice racing with Al and Göran around like in the good old 65sdays. Really
Enjoyed that . well later on Mark passed me and I tried to did some fast laps in his slipstream . But in fact I did couple of my slowest..lol . Noticing that I pushed myself back to more concentration , which works out . P5 that time , nobody close behind .period of lonesome laps started . But hard pushing Alex could close the gap and I had to defend my position the last two laps . Guess due to bad luck of Magic.A , I earned P4 in the end .

All in all a great race to me , with thrilling moments and action . AND again no freeze !!!!!
So indeed it seemed to be Windows Defender causes those former freezes on my w7 system  .

edit:
Grats to Sky, Dave, and Fabio !!!

Grats Hristo, Evil, and Mark

Gutted I could not make this round. Real life has reared it's ugly head and took me out of my racing world. Hope to be back soon.

Peace

Not my series, if Billy wants to move you he can let me know. Your PP's are attached to your driver profile. You earned them, they are yours!  ;)

We don't normally make a habit of switching drivers between Divisions but in the case the driver has volunteered & the Moderators agree that Sky's performance is more suited to the Lights.
For the rest of the series Sky will drive in the Lights.
He did not enter Round 1 but finished 1st at Zandvoort in the Heavies. To try & be fair to all parties we will give Sky points in the Light brigade equivalent to 5th place finish - as his qualifying time was P5. All other drivers in the Lights at Zandvoort will keep exactly the same points.
Well done Sky!

Transfer completed. You will notice that Sky is shown as 50 points in the Lights table but an adjustment of -22 points has been made which will show in the mod when published as 'Advice'.

The adjustment means that Sky carries over 28 points to the Lights but must join the Lights server from now on.

As a consequence, Rainier has received 50 points, Fabio 43 and so on. i.e. All the Heavy drivers have moved up one place. This does not affect your race statistics however so Sky still has his win in his list.
