Eeek! Hope I didn't take anybody out - I think I had a driver go wonky on me, screen and sound froze, and then I got returned to my Desktop but GTR was still running and I heard my car smash into the wall - I thought I'd had my PC freeze on my so I was holding the power button to turn it off to make sure I didn't hit anybody so my PC promptly shut down when it switched back to the Desktop!

Apart from that, pretty poor race...dodgy setup, understeer on the way into, and in the middle of corners, oversteer on the way out!

Can't make this one either...shame, as I was running near high 52's, could've been solidly in the midfield at that pace!

Ended up having to go fix somebodys laptop though, and I'm just in the door now
3  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 12 Lower Endurance (GTC/GT3) - Nogaro - Mar 7 on: March 07, 2010, 08:53:28 PM +0000
How odd.

Qualified alright, 3rd in GT3 - getting reasonably good at Qualifying these days!

Race...well, my setup wasn't up to scratch - tyres that were running at a nice temperature in Quali were cold in the race so I was sliding about a lot, dropped down the order a bit and had a wee spin - also had a bit of contact up my rear from a white Porsche (can't remember who!) - just a tiny tap, I think I was slower than expected out of T1/2 (see: Tyre Issues!) and so I got a wee tap that sent me round.

Set about chasing the folks ahead of me, had caught up to a group of 3 that had passed me whilst I was recovering from my incident with the Porsche when my monitor went black and into stanby, and my wheel stopped responding - not sure what happened, but something crashed on my machine - hopefully I didn't go all stationary and get in anybodys way!

Quick query for those in charge:

I was running 6th and lost 1 place on the last lap of 'my' race to gsi bob and it looks like the race stats are showing me as 6th, but in the stats at the top of this thread and the championship page I'm down as 7th...is that 'cause I hit Escape and didn't cross the line on my last lap?

Surprised myself in Quali, didn't expect 6th (was sitting happily in 5th until FreQ jumped ahead right at the end!) - my practice was pretty poor, so I was quite chuffed.

After last weeks debacle, I decided to go for 2 stops, to ensure I was always on good tyres and not too heavy on fuel, I was pretty sure this would be the most efficient way for me to run the race. So I had 20 mins of fuel on board, which I managed to extend to 25/30 minutes 'cause of our starting procedure. I figured I'd be able to run the rest of the race without a 2nd stop after that so put Mediums on all round to allow me to do that.

Only, I forgot to adjut my fuel, so I had fuel for about 40 minutes of driving for a ~55 minute stint! So that last large section of the race became an economy drive for me, managed to work my way back up to 6th and was cutting it really fine with fuel on the last 3/4 laps, had to go really slow and lost a place, and ran out of Fuel coming out of Ascari on the last lap, made it round Parabolica and 2/3rds of the way to the S/F line before I came to a halt. Everbody behind me was a lap down though, so I was able to keep my finishing position!

Banter, good fun that was - had some good close racing with folks too - cheers to those who I was side-by-side with into whatever corners, always kept clean - very good fun!

Apologies to Truetom though, I think I may have swerved across the track in front of him between the Lesmos as I had my own little moment having just lapped him!

I think I'll break out the DBR9 for this, see how it goes.

Can't be worse than last nights effort!  Cheesy

No worries, I'd lost any chance of anything by then so it didn't cost me anything really! Cheesy

Damn, that was a rubbish start to S12 for me!

Qualified ok, and was running alright in the race, but after about 15 laps my left knee got reeally sore (and remains so now) - which made it difficult to brake that well, caused me to spin a few times.

Got hit once being lapped, and managed to incure 2 stop/go penalties, was hoping to trouble the podium (and it was looking likely near the start) and ended up dead last!

Oh well, onwards and upwards...see if i can work out why my knee hurts so much though!

Ace, I've just spent ages downloading the latest skin packs.

..totally forgot about the slightly importantly Physics Pack! We'll see if I can get it down in time or not...

*chucle*

Minor consolation for my retirement, I'm now the proud holder of a SRou Qualifying Lap record...until we race here again...if we race here again!

Noooo!  :'(

Qualified on Pole in GT3 (my first pole, class or absolute) - managed to get a decent gap for the start of the race and was keeping Prof/somebody else about 1 second behind me (in the name of cutting it fine, I put 39mins worth of fuel in for the 40 minute race, so I wasn't going to push for a huge gap to win by a mile - a 1 sec gap was fine for me, allowed me to be a bit conservative in my driving/gear changes) - then I ran wide at T2/3 at the top of the hill and Prof got past me - fortunately I realised I wasn't going to make the corner pretty swiftly and didn't actually go much off the road and recovered quite quickly.

I then set about hunting him down, was 2.2 seconds behind the lap he started ahead of me and on said lap I hit one of those bl**dy killer cones, proper gutted I am. Led more than half the race, pretty sure I could've caught/passed Prof and gone on to win it.

Oh well, c'est la vie, roll on S12!

Edit: I lasted 14 laps without disconnecting, so my long run of Cat5 will be deployed in S12 Smiley

I was too dumb to check the Fun Races thread until about now, I'll get cracking with some praccy after tea - I'll be able to test out my Ethernet cable and see if i get my random disconnects like I did with WiFi...fingers crossed!
14  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 11 - Dubai (GP) - Jan 24 on: January 26, 2010, 09:23:08 PM +0000
Cheers for the Homeplug suggestion, might be worth looking into.

I'm hoping we'll have some fun/test races between now and next season, 'cause I've just found a long run of Cat5 I had in the boot of my car, I've crimped the ends and I'll have to test it at some time - it runs from one end of the house to another, the father won't mind that for a few hours on a Sunday night. Its under 100m, so its within spec - should work alright!

Cheers to UKGTR staff for running a pretty slick operation, and for giving us all a place to race!
15  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 11 - Dubai (GP) - Jan 24 on: January 24, 2010, 08:29:43 PM +0000
So, I think my issues are related to using WiFi on this machine - I'm not in the position to be able to plumb in some Cat5 to run between here and the other end of the house, hence the use of WiFi - anyway, the connection doesn't drop, but when I just got disconnected twice in 5 mins on the server, I checked the signal strength and it was about 50% going by the graph, but it was operating at 24MBps.

I'm not sure if thats ~50% of the signal strength required for a 24MBps connection, or 50% signal strength, so the link bandwidth has negotiated down to 24MBps to maintain the link, I shall have to research it and find out, see if I can turn up the Tx on my router too, I'm on Ch. 11, and I set up my neighbours WiFi on Ch.1, so we don't have overlapping carriers, WiFi surver from my router suggests I'm clear of any other WiFi signals too.

I shall investigate in time for Season 12!
